Title: People are super-smart...
Post by: UncleBob on October 21, 2007, 08:39:10 AM
So, I'm doing the new Software Modular at work.  This means moving a lot of titles around, putting newer titles in and pulling older titles out.  It was a pretty big one, so I had a cart full of software, piles of it on the floor and some stacked up on surrounding shelves.

No, it doesn't normally look anything like that.

A customer comes up, looks, points at the software and asks "Have some of these been moved?"

Actually, the WalMart over here usually DOES look like that.

Actually here they don't put PC games in a glass case, heck I haven't seen anyplace that does that.

Yeah, my Wal-Marts look like that almost every time I visit, too.

I retract my statement.  My WalMart's floors are always really nasty.

I know what you mean, their bargain bin is so pathetic.

The Wal-Mart Bargain bin is a very uneven experience. They are occasionally organized, but people like to swirl them around like a pot of soup. Trust me, a large group of consumers like to dig through piles of movies/etc rather than having them in organized stacks.

I've found a few good movies in the bargain bin, Sometimes my closest store will have three or four movie bins in the aisle.

actually one morning with the bargain bin i came in early, and it was pristine, i came back to the store later on in the day it was trashed.

one thing really irked me. Originally there was one bargain bin, it was annoying because half of the movies were low budget Spanish crap from Mexico. Then they had two bargain bins, one with the low budget Spanish crap, and the other with the other 5 dollar movies. I come back in and now the Spanish low budget movies get their own rack, yet the regular movies are the worst organized they have ever been.

It's more fun that way! You know, like "touch" tide pools are aquariums or fakey "fossil dig" sandboxes at museums. This is just for adults to have fun now...

Not to mention, there's nothing more exciting, fun, and "I'm actually a good shopper" than digging out a hidden gem from a bargain bin. It's sort of... it's... it's a bit of consumer psychology that I wonder if stores could take more advantage of: "You know it's a deal if you have to dig for it!"

The old $5.50 bin was officially called the "Dump Bin".  Now that it's $5, it's called a "Value Bin".

The more you know....

I found one of those price-guns at the bottom of the "dump bin" once.  I tried to buy it.
