Title: Nintendo Tricked out my Wal*Mart...
Post by: UncleBob on October 19, 2007, 02:18:26 PM
After whining for quite some time for a Nintendo DS Download Station and for a couple of months about the fact that we have a GameCube Interactive that demos games we haven't carried in over a year (meanwhile, all we have in stock is three EA football games and Zelda: TP), Nintendo sent a third party rep in today (that no one knew about until he showed up) to totally hook us up (apparently they're finally going to get us all set up, even us crappy stores in the middle of no where without an actual Nintendo Rep.

Anywhoo, we got one of those flash movie players.  It plays videos of Wii games and people playing Wii Games, etc., etc.  So there went our GCN Interactive.  Additionally, we got in a DS Download Station!  Whoo!  Even has Volume #6 - the latest!  (and, if I'm feeling generous, I can bring in volumes 1-5, except #4 that I haven't managed to score yet).

*And* we got a DS Interactive Kiosk!  Score!  It's currently playing Diddy Kong Racing, which we don't currently carry, but updated games should be coming out soon.  I'm tempted to put a copy of Phantom Hourglass in it.

So - if you've had a joyless Nintendo section at your Wal*Mart for the past year or so, stop back by and check it out again in the next couple of days - and bring your DS to download some demos! (Unfortunately, we don't have and signing up saying that we have a DS Download Station yet, so no one really knows about it.  I've been telling the customers - and showing them with my DS that's under the counter... )

Can you somehow copy the contents of the Wii-demo flash card and send the data to me?

I'm serious.

Ummm... probably not... I'm sure it's not allowed - and I don't have a Compact Flash reader (the format of the card)....

How about I paypal you some Pro-Cash and you go buy a CF reader?

I really don't think it's allowed - You know these are just really dull videos, right?

UncleBob, you are a god amongst men. Bless your Nintendo-fanboyish ways. (Also, feed us plz, we've been stuck in your storage containers since Tuesday without food)

No, but seriously, I'm glad that Nintendo finally saw that you deserved better. I really hope that this is part of an increased effort by Nintendo to start caring more. Oh, and how about sticking Drawn To Life in that DS demo unit instead of Zelda?

Retailers weren't supposed to sell the Viewtiful Joe/Soulcalibur 2 demo discs without a newly sold GameCube, yet they did it anyway.

I know they're really dull videos cuz my Targets and Wal-Marts have been playing them for more than half-a-year.  They're still source-quality Nintendo media and I WANT IT, especially if the official MP3 Corruption trailer is on it (the one with the goofy smiling people).

I went to moderate lengths to share the 2006 Wii Promo DVD did I not?

Now see, I was coming on here today to mention that, just to check things out, I did, in fact, pull the CF card out and brought it over to the Photo Center - just to see what was there.

It was one individual movie file and well over the size that would fit onto one CD - the only thing I could even do with the card without taking it out of the store...

Time to bring a laptop with a dvd burner to work with you. (and buy another eyepatch for photo purposes!)

Yeah, I don't have one of those either.

Although, if I did have a laptop, I wouldn't really need a DVD burner, as I could just copy the card to the Laptop.

Dude, you work in the electronics department.  It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure it out....

If you don't work in Electronics why are you rearranging their games?

I just bought Nintendo's E for All gameplay footage press kit DVD off ebay for under $40.  When is UncleBob cashing in on Pro's weakness?

I'll make you a deal - hook me up with a Panasonic Q and Game Boy Player (for the Panasonic Q) and I'll get you the actual flash cart itself.

www.ebay.com

I expect the flash cart fedexed in a 12"x12"x12" wooden box.

Actually, there are no Panasonic Q versions of the Game Boy Player on eBay right now.  Plus, you have to pay.

Uncle Bob,

Out with it.  What do you actually do at Walmart?  You have to be management or have the Elmo Sugar Momma.

It'd be funny if you're the loss prevention dude that walks around looking for shoplifters.

People would walk by and wonder why some guy is rearranging the video games.

Please... Walmart has less loss prevention then a small Sears.
