Title: Which Direction?
Post by: bustin98 on October 18, 2007, 08:21:37 PM
Which way do you see her moving?

Looks counter clockwise to me.

You should post if you have a dominant hand along with what you see.

Initially I saw her moving counter-clockwise (I am left handed).

If you blink real fast and catch it at the right moment, she will change direction.

I'm right handed. So does that make me a mutant?

It started counter clockwise, then went to clockwise, then back and forth again and again.  Why?  Because she keeps alternating the leg she's standing on.  Basically, after a certain amount of time, the image mirrors itself and repeats, causing both to occur.

Which way you see has nothing to do with your dominate hand.  It really does switch, and the leg she's standing on does change.  Someone has played you for a sap.

Clockwise. How in the hell do you OMG I CAN SEE BOTH NOW.

thatguy's right - it's the animation that changes.

Yep I just noticed that, it is all a LIE.

It's also interesting to note that she has nipples.  Apparently it took me this long to notice.  As a guy, I'm shocked.

The only mutant is thatguy for trying too hard.

And duh. I opened the file in ImageReady and saw what it was doing. Stop being a party pooper.

Its just like the drawings of the hourglass/kissing faces or old maid/young girl. Its what you perceive it to be.

It's cool, blocking the rest of her, I can watch just the legs specifically and see her constantly spinning towards the front. I'm working on switching my perception so that I can change the direction I see when viewing her whole body now.

Yeah but aren't those images static? This appears to be changing.

Oh wow, you're right, the animation does switch legs. ::angry::

And angry because they didn't need to cheat. The optical illusion would work even WITHOUT them switching the legs on you. I can make myself see either direction willingly no matter what foot she's standing on.

What? I watched, saw a flash, and suddenly she was going the other way.  Then, I looked at the feet, and saw that they changed in the quick flash.  It's not what you perceive it as, it really is when you perceive it.  By the time you read that it means which hand is dominant, odds are, it's changed.  As a human, if what you saw aligns with what bustin said, you won't double check.  If what you saw didn't match up, you'll look again, and probably see the opposite, and then be satisfied.

This cake is a lie, and it didn't take much to notice that.

As far as her feet go, they get larger as they approach the center, and at the moment of crossing, they become small.  So yes, this could be true as an illusion pertaining to feet, but it isn't true pertaining to the entire body.

So am I freak or not for seeing it move counterclockwise even though I'm right handed?

Wait for her to stand on her right foot, then say you can't see it counterclockwise.

I think I can see her spin both directions concentrating on her thumbs as well.

I say, we must move forward, not backward, upward not forward, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom.

I see it spinning clockwise, standing on the left leg

I have NO IDEA how are you all seeing the foot change, since it doesn't happen (open the gif on ImageReady or something...)

I'm with Athrun, don't see any foot changes, and she's going clockwise.

THREAD OVER

I wasn't sure it wasn't a trick, so I loaded it up in the GIMP, stepped through it frame by frame (there're only 34 frames, no room for trickery), and if I tried really hard, I could change my perceptions and make it look like she turned around on the frames where her legs overlapped.

Oh, so there's no trcikery, just ourselves SEEING the trick!

Hey baby, how you doin'?
Title: RE: Which Direction?

So if seeing the spinning a specific way is a result of the dominant side of your brain, being able to switch that would mean that I'm telekinetic, right?
Title: RE:Which Direction?
Post by: bustin98 on October 19, 2007, 09:19:04 AM
Its perspective. We are using the combined elements of the image to judge the animation. If you just look at the legs there is nothing to indicate if the higher leg is in the foreground or the background. So changing how you think about the image changes the direction of the spinning.

Stop analyzing this thing and give your initial impressions. Its not meant to be a trick or anything, just a neat little optical illusion that reveals how different people see the same thing in different ways.

I saw her spinning clockwise, at first.

Then I looked away, and when I looked back I saw her spinning the other way.

I can now mostly get her to switch at will, by looking at just the foot that she has her weight on and saying, in my head, something like "Switch direction! I command you!"

She's moving up and down.

I win.

More importantly, what's up with the erect nipple? Was that really necessary?

It keeps flipping for me but, if you look closer you can tell there light coming from behind her and if you look at her shadow she has to be spinning counter clockwise to have the shadow going away from her when her leg moves right to left making her have to be *really* going counter clockwise....

It rotates on way and then it rotates the other way.
There is no vision trick and its not an illusion.
So those of you that are willing it to change on command are truly special

That's what I thought and said after I watched it for a minute or two.

Okay, I swear I've watched this for a few minutes and it's only going counter-clockwise.  No change, nothing.

interesting... decided to pay more attention to everything in the animation, and noticed that the shadow moves counter-clockwise... and then I saw her moving counter-clockwise!

seems that the shadow and the body moving in opposite directions is the "trick"
Title: RE: Which Direction?
Post by: stevey on October 23, 2007, 03:30:14 PM
No the trick is in seeing the raised leg is in front of her in respect to her moving left to right or right to left, like looking at a cube

and asking is it facing up or down I know it's not cube, I was rushing when making it

(Also dose anyone just see her going back & forth and not spinning at all, or am I the only one?)

I can see that Stevey. A bunch of us can see her going any direction we want to see her going in, including going back and forth, constantly changing direction.
