Title: AUUUUUGH COLORBLIND! (MAYBE)
Post by: that Baby guy on October 17, 2007, 05:48:53 PM
So, I'm in Bio lab and we're talking genetics, and they get to the whole colorblind jizzunk, and they've got an actual book to determine it, instead of that one generic picture that every textbook has ever ever used. So during some extra time while something was incubating or something, I go to look at the book, and start to do the tests with a few group mates. And all of a sudden, I can only point out half the numbers sometimes. Other times, I can see traces of numbers. Other times, there aren't any numbers for me to see. So I figure out how the tests actually work, and according to the book, I may be colorblind. Everyone else is all like "you can't see that? You're pulling my leg." and I'm all, "No, I really can't see the 27 on that page, kind sirs and madam. All I see is a 9." And they're all "really?" and I'm like "relly"
SO I wiki'd the colorblind and used their links to find some tests, and I took some. And my results were all over the place. If I were to judge from my results there, I'm a little bit of each type of colorblindness, but only sometimes. Other times, I'm not at all. So where do I go to learn how I'm colorblinded and what do I do? Should I try to get a dissability tag for my car?

Eleven. Or does that one count as a third leg?

CONFIRMED thatguy can not fly jets.
In all seriousness the best thing to do would to go see your eye doctor. Your symptoms seem to describe some new Super Colorblindness. This has never afflicted you at a traffic light?

Nope, not that I recall. Though, I have had trouble discriminating between reds and greens in dimmer light, it hasn't ever been that bad. But I seriously can't see most of those numbers, and most of the time, if I can, it's very faint, even if it's the alternate number for the colorblind kid. Then, about one of every five will be brighter than a school bus in the middle of Atlantis.
At my next eye appointment, I'll ask the doctor. I can't believe they never tried to diagnose me for it before.

Really? Because if I'm getting the third leg confused with measly finger, is that something you really want to be proud of?
Har har Crimm. Though, if I had to guess, before you drained the color, I'd say there was a two in there.
Or, the more fun answer: Why is there just a big empty spot on the page?

Around 10% of the male population is color blind to some degree. close to the same amount of people are left handed.
BTW, is your mom a Tetrachromatic super mutant?

My dad is red/green color blind. But I didn't get it. I've looked at all the tests and its all good.
And I've never had an eye appointment where they've specifically looked for color blindness. And I've worn glasses since the 3rd grade.
I don't think it will affect you in life at all. Especially since you've gotten this far without knowing. But I wonder if your parents were pulling their hair out with you trying to teach you colors when you were young.

Well the thing about colourblindness is taht it works teh same was as haemophilia. If your dad has it, then neither you OR any of your siblings can get it. However, if you have a sister, any male children of hers have a 50/50 chance of colour blindness, if their father is colourblind then they'll run the risk of producing a colour blind female, who is garrunteed to infect all her male children with colourblindness and turn all females into carriers.

Well, I'm not worried about it. I just want to know what kind I am, really. I'm pretty sure it's the red-green kind, but it doesn't matter too much. It's not like I can't see colors, but the I do have to say that, no, I can't play Meteos, because I can't find my copy. It's ok, though, Planet Puzzle League is better, anyways.

I've never really been sure what kind I am. It was first detected in Lime Green/Bright Yellow for me but I've had problems with all kinds of things. Mario Kart Super Circuit was a disaster for me, I could not tell the red/green shells apart. Ever. I once handed in a short paper written entirely in purple ink (serious.)
Colour Blindness is the strangest thing, I think it's msotly in the head. For example with the purple paper. I was finishing it off in the class before it and a girl leans over "is there a reason why you're writing in purple" and I looked back at my paper and SUDDENLY the ink that was blue, was now purple. I just replied "please don't laugh at me"
Lol chekcing wikipedia
Quote Traffic light colors are confusing to some dichromats: there is insufficient apparent difference between the red and amber and sodium street lamps and the green can be confused with a grubby white lamp. This is a risk factor on a high-speed undulating road where angular cues can't be used
I have run several red lights, entirely convinced they were green. Also check the wiki thatguy, I'm now entirely convinced I have deuteranopia.

Oh, I live for drugs. It's great. Just lately I...freaked out... on acid. I freaked out very very badly. No, I don't think I'll ever take acid again. Before I thought that was the best thing in the world. I never want it again... Never acid again

I have a friend who found out he was colorblind when we were watching this guy that game where it's like risk, but the maps are fictional and you place with dice instead of soldiers. Anyway, we were watching and he asked why one color was attacking itself. It turned out that he couldn't see the difference between the colors.

Odd - every eye test I've had included a quick colourblind test.

18 Days verifies that I am right, and also, that I don't need colors in order to see numbers, so there!

There a lot of partial colorblind people, like a friend can't tell the difference between red and green, i think

That's not partial colorblindness, that's a type of colorblindness. In my case, I'm saying that I probably have that, but not to the degree that the two colors are completely indistinct.
