Title: The NWRWFL team sign-ups!
Post by: that Baby guy on October 06, 2007, 06:40:16 PM
Yes, I'm looking to form teams for the NewerWaffle NWR Wi-Fi League. It needs to happen.
Now, we can do this two ways: By picking the more athletic kids last for once, or by region. Any other ideas?
Go!

Maybe you should explain the rules, etc? How does it work? How many teams? What are team sizes? What games will be up for the first few rounds?

I think this is still kinda bein organized in his head.
An easy way to do it would be the forum members select the game of the week, a poll in Matchmaking and/or a poll here, and you sign up for a team if you want. We score based on who wins matches, and individual's scores are totalled to be the team score. Each week there is both a team and individual winner.

In.
Do we need to compile a list of Wi-Fi games we have?

I don't know. Ask Crimm. I just made a topic asking for ideas and potential team selections or teammates.
How many should be on each team? Can we keep a running score, too?

I think we should split into 2-4 teams (depending on how many people sign up). Then, a "GM" gets to set up a "challenge". Then, we'll set up a point or "Coin" value for the winner of the match. Then, everyone who wants to sign up for the challenge gets to. Then, the "GM" will randomly match up competitors. The competitors will be responsible for setting up their match (within a pre-agreed time limit). After the match is completed, the competitors will come back and report their match results. The "coins" will be given to the winning competitor's team.
Competitors will be matched up first come, first served - meaning if four people from one team and five people from the other team sign up, whomever was the fifth person from the second team to sign up doesn't get in on the match.
This type of set up will allow those who don't have a particular game to sit out without hurting their team. Additionally, it gives those of us with jobs or those of you with lives a chance to play.
Obviously, this is just an idea... anyone have some thoughts?

Yes, running scores should be kept. A leaderboard, if you will. Yes, there probably should be a cap on teams, but if we just have people represent teams in a game (like, highest scorer from that team counts, team average counts, etc) it wouldn't matter as much.
Personally, I think the scoreboard should be in the matchmaking folder. Remember the ... it's a whole other ECOSYSTEM in there! thread? That might actually get our North Korean-like brothers to venture into our hawtness thread free world.
Hey, I'm not going to set the rules here, but I'll make suggestions. Whatever we decide is the "most fun" I'll support. Assuming Windy doesn't mind, and this whole thing works out, I'll put it in the weekly community round-up. I'll float relevant threads, and keep things up to date. I'll do polls if we need em.

Alright, sounds good.
Personally, I think teams of threes or fours would be a good amount. Then, there can be several teams, and a leaderboard will have more meaning than one with just three or four teams. If a team doesn't have someone who can represent them with one of the week's chosen games, they won't be penalized, but they won't be able to add to their ranking, either. Four player titles could be done as 2v2s, with whoever wins the first spot garnering all the points, and in this respect, one player would play a supporting role in these games.
I think rules should be created, then teams should be formed, then a schedule should be made using about one or two games a week, matching up a few teams against each other. It would be interesting to allow every team to play every other team in just about nearly every online game, with Bye weeks existing when a team doesn't have a rep for a particular title. Each team could be matched two or three times against opposing teams a week, so everyone gets a chance to play. I suppose people who wanted to be on their own team could, too, but they would be at a disadvantage any time a 2v2 game rolled around.

I'm in. I suggest forming teams based on games people have. This way we'll be able to make it so teams are formed so they have as many games between its members as possible.

Yeah. I think everybody should list what games they have when they sign up.

What do you think about allowing teams to "bet" their points (coins?) against each other for matches?

I like this idea. I barely play any games online due to the hassle, so anything that makes it more worthwhile is a good thing.

I like this idea and I challenge Crimm to kick ass organizing it and incorporating it into the entire site.

I like this idea too, and I challenge myself to not screw it up.
So, I'm sure that if we get this going I'll mention it in the community roundup. Might include a leader board in there, at the very least I'll put a write-up about this week's "action."
Have we deiced on a day of the week that would work best? I don't think it should be on Friday, since if we get back to trivia it will be on Friday. If its on a weekday it will have to be evenings, but since its not evening everywhere at once, yeah.
So how about this, everyone tell me what times/days they could be on most often. List a few times and dates. I'll work out some kinda crazy math to find the most opportune time/day.

I don't think it should be a day of the week thing. I think a cycle of games should be run through, and the teams should be matched up each week. Then, everyone should have from the Hot Topic post to the end of the week to get in the match based on the rules. That way people aren't restricted to a severe time table.

So more ad-hoc "I can play ___." Okay, tha tworks for me, it's just going to require more organization before each match, but less to get started.
So when do we want to get started, anyway?

I think we're waiting for the conclusion of mafia. That's my guess. Can't we all just pin the blame on someone? AzureNightmare, you have foiled NWR for the last time!
