Do you really need to cue Ian? I thought he did it regardless!

Iansane and Miyamoto are at odds! Who will back down first in this contest of wills!

but Miyamoto looked sad

Did this make anyone else laugh?

but then Miyamoto looked sad . . . and we could hear children around the world crying. Then it started to rain outside as if the heavens themselves were filled with sadness. So we made a game with a preexisting character.

I have a hard time trying to think of what he would look like when he was sad.

I wonder if Miyamoto realizes any new intellectual properties would become Nintendo characters

If only MIyamoto knew as much as Bungie, whose Halo series at the very least compares to Miyamotos franchises!

All of them, combined.  He is the MASTER Master Chief.

Miyamoto treats IPs as window dressing. He only feels the need to invent a new one if current franchises characters don't fit. The only reason he created pikmin was because the gameplay wouldn't have fit with any existing Nintendo characters to him. So... new IP! But if the Donkey Kong Jungle Beat team is showing potential for a great action-platformer? BAM! Use the Mario franchise!

It'd be cool to see some new franchises, but Nintendo has had hard luck in pushing new franchises out into the spotlight as of late (I'm looking at YOU, EBA/Ouendan ).

Don't forget Pikmin

Well, the Jungle Beat team was basically the Sunshine team anyway, so it made sense that they would do Galaxy.

Remember how well that new franchise did in the mid to late 90s what was it called Pokémon?

Yeah, but that was more mid-mid to late nineties, really.  It doesn't count.

Or how about that 2000s franchise, oh what was it called? WarioWare?

But those new Mii themed Wiisports, Wiiplay games are obviously a fad.

There was also this new franchise that was pretty successful, I think it was called Animal Chicken Crossing or something like that.

With the exception of Pokemon, none of those series have had the success of the Big 2.  I don't put Metriod on the Mario Zelda tier, like some do.

I must've bought the bootleg version, 'cause I could swear my copy had a different name.

1. You have to remember that Animal Crossing was a fairly new franchise when it was released on the N64 and GC a few years ago and thanks to the DS version the series is now one of Nintendo's most popular franchises.

2. I wouldn't count EBA/Ouendan out. The series may not have sparked the same fire Mario, Zelda and Metroid did but it certainly grabbed the attention of many. Ouendan IS the most imported title to date, good enough to warrant a sequel, not many original IPs do that nowadays.

3. Brain Age, Nintendogs and the Wii series of games are new IPs that have done extraordinarily well (I'm well aware that these are games aimed at the casual crowd, but they were quirky new IPs nonetheless, and Nintendo promoted the hell out of them).

I think Nintendo has the misfortune of releasing new IP games at the wrong time. Games like Geist and Chibi-Robo, Odama were released at a time in which the GC was dying. They needed more exposition.

I really don't think timing killed sales of Geist or Odama.

Odama was killed by being...well by being Odama.  I mean wtf, seriously.
Geist was killed for lack of polish and buzz.

Wrong!

Any other guesses to games I own I haven't played?

Currently, there's Killer 7 and Geist.

Killer7 is complete trash.

We all know that already. Nothing to see here.

Oh and worst visual excuse for style of all time.

Evan already admitted it was trash, he said the gameplay is terrible.

I've always wanted to buy and not play Contact.  I was temporarily DSless when it came out last year or whenever.

My list of games owned and unplayed would blot out the sun.  I've even bought sequels to games I've bought but not played.  I think I may have a problem.

Ha Ha!  Nope, I open them.  That's the worst part.  I open them up and usually store the games separate from their cases!
