Title: Free Wii Remote Jackets for All!
Post by: TheYoungerPlumber on October 01, 2007, 03:51:35 PM
Need a better grip on your Wii remote?  Nintendo has you covered.

A few months after Wii launched, Nintendo of America replaced their wrist strap with a more durable model less prone to snapping under excessive stress, and offered replacement straps for already-purchased Wii remotes at no cost.

Now Nintendo is similarly starting to include Wii remote jackets—rubbery wrappers for Wii remotes that combat slippery palms. While those who have already purchased similar third party products are out of luck, Nintendo is offering free Wii remote jackets for remotes already in American and Canadian homes—all you need is the serial number of your Wii console. While this accessory isn't for everyone, it may come in handy during those intense Brawl battles come December, and you can't argue with the price!

Special thanks to UncleBob for the tip!

In. How can you say no to free stuff?

Just another example of great service from Nintendo.

(and loads cheaper than any (frivolous and unwarranted) lawsuit)

Woah...this is kinda out of the blue.

But when you print money, you can afford to do things like this.

I was kind of interested until I saw how hideous they are.

Yeah, they are hideous and unnecessary from my point of view, but sometimes it's about safeguarding your stuff from *other* people... I think these jackets would really be appreciated by people with young kids.

I tried registering for these from my Wii last night and all I got an empty page (no success/error msg.). When I tried it on a real browser today, it said I already reached my limit of skins, so it did work using Opera after all.

I would double check that with Nintendo. The same thing happened to me, and it turns out it didn't work. It is supposed to ask you for all your shipping information after the initial page. I called Nintendo about my order and it had to be redone and reprocessed, all good now though.

Interesting tidbit for our UK players:

Nintendo will include the Wii Remote Jacket with all Wii hardware systems and with all Wii Remotes sold separately or packaged with Wii Play.

EDIT: Photographic evidence here. It looks like its made to be taken on and off at will. The other controller skins look like they were made if you had rechargeable batteries a la Nyko. Its a shame they didn't make/include one for the Nunchuck. It can get slippery there too.
