Title: Why close the Nsider Forums?
Post by: that Baby guy on September 17, 2007, 05:23:04 PM
I can't figure out exactly why. Anyone else hear anything? The best I can figure is that Nintendo doesn't want to be held responsible for what forums members post and say. My guess is that it's probably a PR safety move or something.
Could it have something to do with the outsourcing of NP or the expanding to San Francisco/New York? Any other ideas?

I think it is to set a prescedent for gamefaqs to close so everyone can come here and ruin paradise!

New forum software? Or has Nintendo finally abandoned their hardcore fanbase?

Nintendo was tired of post counting. I say, good for Nintendo.

Someone started a Hawtness thread and Nintendo banned the whole forum

That would be very sad too, tho only Hawtness in principle. Their execution wouldn't compare to ours.

Ours was the best~! I would almost create an entire forum TO HAWTNESS THREADS; IMAGINE INDIVIDUAL HAWTNESS THREADS DEDICATED TO EACH CHARACTER AND FETISH~!

I am sure you can find a "forum" that does something like that, although you may have to pay a weekly fee for access.

NSider couldn't compete with NeoGAF and GameFAQs for biggest collection of idiots ever, so they gave up trying.

Well Nintendo is revamping its website for a new look and feel. Perhaps they felt that either:
A) A message board would not really fit in the new vision of the site B) The design of the message board needs to be changed with the site not only in appearance, but rules for posting.
I don't know why they couldn't have moved the page and disconnected it from the Nintendo main page though and kept it going. It would have made much more sense, and people wanting to chat could still find it.

I'm going to guess there are liability issues involved, especially because Nintendo was like 'go away and start your own forums'.

Many companies organizationally place their websites/online communities under their Marketing wing.
This just sounds like part of the continued shakeup of that department, at least until they are finished outsourcing to their new locations.

Yeah this isn't the first time it's disappeared if I recall correctly. Didn't they used to have a code vault which was essentially the forums, that disappeared?
What good timing though... I'm sure that forum was about to explode anyways with WiFi for Brawl being announced officially

Two guesses:
1. Amazing guess: Like ShyGuy said in the NP thread, Nintendo is outsourcing the forums along with the magazine (I think this is very likely).
2. Optimistic but unlikely guess: A new Wii channel offering forums makes NSider obsolete.
