Title: Famitsu: Project H.A.M.M.E.R. (Hammer) Canceled
Post by: Shecky on September 14, 2007, 01:26:57 PM
According to reports on the latest Famitsu... This game is officially terminated.

I say good riddance, the concept seemed weak and is likely why they canned it.

Good, we don't need any games glamorizing the killing of things with hammers! It is disrespectful to all the hard working people hammering shingles onto a roof.

More like disrespectful to hammer manufacturers due to hammers being used in a manner that they did not intend their product!

(I bet they are working on 1080 for the WiiFit Board!)

I wasn't too interested in the game. It would've been nice to have another "gamer's game" on Wii, but it probably would've bombed hard due to its weak concept, though everyone would say it was because those kinds of games don't perform well on Wii thus leading to more ports and mini-game titles on the system.

Was Project Hammer even a gamer game? You basically ran around and hit lots of things with a big hammer.

That's fun, though.  It's like when you build a block fortress just to knock it down.  Or when you set up a thousand dominoes, because you like to see them all topple over.  Only, in Project Hammer, you don't really have to build it yourself, you just get to knock everything over.

That reminds me, what happened to the No One Can Stop Mr. Domino sequel we were supposed to see on the Wii.  About a year ago, I had some great ideas for a Domino based game, and I was wondering if it would come close to some of what I was thinking...

Exchange "big hammer" with "sword" and you essentially describe Devil May Cry's gameplay.

You'd have to add a horrible camera system for that.

Exactly

I blame hardcore non-gamers (aka Ian) for the death of this fantastic pure gaming game. Or maybe the developers just stuffed something up

Weak concept? You hit sh!t with a hammer. That's not weak, that's awesome.

Well, it's not a concept that says much about the game design so it's not strong but calling it weak is unjustified, too, after all it leaves 95% of the game defining variables unknown.

No, it's not. I played it at E3 06. It was an embarrassment, and I think the guy manning the booth thought the same thing.

Non-game mini-game compilation confirmed!  Wave Race Ware, games include:
- help Ricky Winterborn thrust his pelvis while spitting some phat rhymes
- see how many jumps on a trampoline it takes to bust Serena's sports bra
- guide Rob Haywood's needle full of steroids to an artery

R.I.P. Project HAMMER.  At least you'll live on as a legend among fanboys instead of a disappointment.

I was never really that interested in this game but it was a original IP for the Wii so it's kind of a bummer that it wasn't up to snuff.  It probably deserves to be cancelled but it probably deserved to be a better game in the first place.

Yeah, this sucks. Nintendo needed a cyborg to round out their first-party stable of characters. Also I wanted to hit things with a big hammer and throw finesse to the winds.

Although I went on record as thinking the game looked stupid, there is a lot of potential for crazy hammer action on Wii.  Hopefully someone incorporates it into another game (maybe Zelda?!)
