Title: GameCube Controller Availability
Post by: UltimatePartyBear on September 12, 2007, 08:39:55 AM
When I found out that the Wii Classic Controller would be unusable with GameCube games, I took a quick look around to get a feel for GameCube controller availability, knowing that mine would all wear out eventually. It appeared that either Nintendo had ceased production, or retailers were uninterested in restocking supplies. Even online retailers were running out.
Has that changed? I was just checking the status of an order at Amazon, and saw that they had new black and platinum controllers in stock, and I'm positive they were completely out not that long ago (not counting the ones available from other sellers). How common are they in the wild nowadays? What about Wavebirds?

I'm pretty sure you can get the wired controllers directly through store.nintendo.com. As for Wavebirds ... get 'em when you find 'em because I don't think they are available in the Nintendo store.

I'd kill for a wii-white Gamecube controller, wired or wireless.

I wouldn't go quite that far. I'd only kill for a wireless one, I'd put the limit at a severe beating if I was limited to wired.

The Wii-White idea is neat. Perhaps a Wii-White memory card as well?

I think many places stopped stocking GameCube stuff because they didn't think the Wii would become the #1 console this gen.
I was talking with another Wii owner yesterday who - get this - has modded his Wii (so he probably knows how to get into the inside of his Wii) but has never noticed the GameCube controller slots that are in plain sight right on the top. WTF.

I've noticed that standand and Wavebird controllers are becoming increasingly harder to find new in stores. When I do see them, they're usually Platinum in color.

Naw, it's not pearly white. It's just white.
Also, it wasn't sold in Japan, so they'd be out of luck.

It'd become sweaty-hand grey after Brawl.

Well I know my local indy gamestore has gamecube controller that exactly look like Nintendo's but aren't by exact I mean exact. Down to the buttons, analog sticks, shoulder buttons the only thing thats different is that it doesn't have the Nintendo Gamecube logo on the middle.

Bring back the Wavebird, Nintendo! Or at least give us a wireless Wii equivalent....

Finding a new wavebird is harder than procuring your own, personal, clone-slave.

I think if you want GC controllers you might want to take a look at Ebay or EBgames/Babbages/Gamestop used selections. Locally I have seen a few Platinum Wave Birds and wired controllers at Toys R Us, Wal Mart, and target.
But I have 1 WaveBird, Black GC, and Orange GC controllers...and the chances of me finding a 4th person to play would mean that most likley they have a GC controlelr anyway.
But, FTR
I like the Classic Controller for NES, SNES, TG16, and Genesis games. N64 games work best with the GC controller. ...and Well obviously GC games work best w/ GC controller.

Gamecube controllers are nice and all...but I want Nintendo to give us a dang firmware update that figures a work around for the classic controller to work on Gamecube games. Except for a few minor issues I like the classic controller better than the Cube controller, and I have 3 classic controllers, so figure out a work around Nintendo...and release that firmware update with full support for SD cards and hard drives.
