Title: Resident Evil 4 Wii: 750k Served
Post by: WindyMan on August 31, 2007, 12:22:23 PM
Capcom sets another milestone for its survival-horror masterpiece.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=14329

At the same time Capcom announced it would be publishing Wii Love Golf for Camelot, the granddaddy publisher also revealed that it has shipped out 750,000 copies of Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition to retailers worldwide.  This is an impressive figure, considering that it's only been available for about three months.

What's more telling, however, is that it may be selling faster than the GameCube original.  Six months after RE4 shipped on GameCube, Capcom reported North American sales at half a million.  Sales from the other major gaming regions would have obviously put that figure higher at the time, perhaps as high as around 750k units.  If that speculative sum was accurate, then the Wii version is selling twice as fast as the GameCube version, despite it being almost three years late to the game.

Was the GameCube in that bad of shape at the time?  Or is the game really that good?  If you've got an explanation for this phenomenon, we'd love to hear it in Talkback.

The game really is that good, the Wii controls make it the best in the RE series IMO. And for 30 bucks you can't go wrong. It's a solid purchase all around and I guess a lot of people realize that.

Which tells me I need to continue playing it and finish it so I can check out the new Ada missions I missed the first time around.  I also want to build up enough cash to fully flesh out the hand cannon.

Explanation:  The Playstation 2 version ruined it for the Gamecube.  Why play an incomplete game now when you can wait six months or so for the full thing at the same -or better- price?  You wouldn't.  That's why I never bought the Cube RE4.  I knew there was more coming.  Then, by the time the PS2 version was released, I had pretty much decided I wouldn't be buying any more PS2 games in protest to the way Sony had treated their competitors and the industry in general, killing the DC with lies and all.  Then, early last year, I realized that we'd be seeing a lot of expanded versions of previous games with better controls on the Wii, so I figured this would be one that would get re-released.

I think several people see this now, and think Okami will be released for the Wii, as well.  However, what most people don't realize is that at least the management of Capcom is full of idiots, as decreed in their company policy, so it's hard to say if Capcom will actually do smart things.  It's really pretty unlikely, IMO.  I just hope I'm wrong.

Not bad at all, considering the installed bases relative to one another.

I don't agree entirely with your reasoning, but I think that's a big one.  The PS2 Version hurt sales, but was it a more complete game?  I remember the additions, and I honestly thought they were pretty crappy additions, not to mention the graphics were astounding on the GC version, and significantly less on the PS2 version.  But I think the main reason RE4 is selling ( in the future that is)  better on the Wii then the GC is because the Wii is a much more popular system (sadly... I only say because I loved the GC and love all the games I own on it... I sold the crappy ones).  If you have this console still selling out at locations, AND there being a lack of quality single player games, people will go to the solid action title of RE4 for 30 bucks.  Metroid Prime Corruption I hope will change this, as will other games... We're all waiting for Smash, admit it.

This is just a result of all the starved little nintards resorting to buying the same games over and over.

This is a case of all the little nintards giving their money to a third party publisher.

Yoohoo! Devs! This here Nintendo fanbase is sitting all by its lonesome...
