Title: New WiiWare developer...
Post by: Smash_Brother on August 25, 2007, 06:01:29 PM
I submitted this as news, but I've no idea if the submission form worked (it hasn't for me in the past).

Medaverse Studios

Their first game will be called "Gravitronix".

Quote

Details:
-Gravitronix is an action/battle game for 1-4 players (possibly 8).
-The game takes place in a single-screen arena.
-The objects seen in the logo are your weapons.
-Projectiles will have different physics.
-There will be a great deal of depth in the control scheme.
-Veteran players will master maneuvers which make rookie players cry "HAX!!!"

Nothing else but a press release, though.

There was also bPlus who announced a game called "PLÄTTCHEN twist ’n’ paint"(their logo is too big to post). Looks like they're an Austrian company.

If I were going to do that, wouldn't you expect me to make a thread entitled "OMFG!!! OMGF!!!! I'M DEVELOPING FOR WIIWARE!!!!!!11!"?

So far we have two Wii developers confirmed. I wonder what the final developer tally will be.

I doubt if anyone was more excited about WiiWare than me. But with Nintendo saying their first games are going to be puzzlers, and the two confirmed indie devs also making puzzlers, I'm starting to feel a little disappointed. Yes I know that XBLA is full of very successful puzzlers, but I really don't care, I wanted to see like miniature Zack and Wiki games. Those are the kind of puzzles I want to download on WiiWare. How about a miniature Mario game where you basically play the same 5-10 levels but each time you go through it there are different rules (like what items can be found, how many times an enemy must be hit to kill it), by having 10 or 20 changeable rules you can have a lot of different options(someone do the math for me  ).

The obvious response is to be patient, but I've been freaking patient waiting for WiiWare to even come out, where are the games!! I can play puzzlers free on sites like Yahoo! and MSN, adding Wiimote controls isn't really going to sell me.

Edit: If they end up making the Paranoia game seen here with very early concenpt art, for WiiWare then I take back what I said.

It is kinda disappointing that the first two Wii Ware games are puzzlers, but I think they just want to start with something simple before moving onto bigger projects.

Also it seems that the Meda guys are aware that puzzlers are common so they want to make it a different one, so I say wait to see with what they come up with.

I know they said somewhere that they wanted the first games to be simple, and introduce more complicated action/RPG/whatever games later on. (I can't find the source, though.) So I'd give it a couple of months before coming to a conclusive judgment.

It's not a puzzle game. They posted some more details.

I thought the objects in the logo were the puzzle pieces, hence my thought that it was a puzzler.
Now I need more info on the game, those details dont really explain the game.

It's no big surprise that puzzle games will be the first ones out the gates: they're the quickest to develop!

Though I'd personally want to see some indie 2D platformers over WiiWare.

Indeed. I heard that Meteos was programmed by a small team of developers and look at how that turned out.

2D platformers, 2D arcade shooters, 2D RPGs...I wonder what the limitations will be. Will WiiWare games be net-capable? Are the graphics going to be limited? When is Nintendo going to release hard drive support?

Or at least HDSD Card support!

I expected everything coming out first for WiiWare to be puzzlers, honestly.

And that includes games from Capcom like puzzle fighter.

Also, the one piece of news I actually discovered first and submitted, like ever, and they never posted it.

NWR hasn't talked about bPlus either, which is surprising because they have far more concrete details that Meda studios (they have the details, but no screens of footage, and it seems bPlus has been working on their game for a while now).

Is the site trying to avoid doing news about Wii Ware developers in fear they might be fake and/or become vaporware developers a la Nibris?

It's because they're too small to provide PLANET GAMECUBE with media perks.

Is Nibris really vaporware? Anyways, it might be better if they did a combined feature about WiiWare and got interviews and quotes from both dev teams. I don't know if they deserve the same amount of screen time as the bigger, more conventional devvers.

I went to the main news page and nothing is posted there.  I think that NWR dont give much attention to WiiWare related news, which sucks the big one.

It's no big deal. I thought I had something to actually contribute.

I'm sure GoNintendo will go insane with it soon enough anyway.

As for Nibris, I'm not sure, but their website is still up although the Sadness movies are no longer there.

Give them 8 years and if they still have nothing, then is vaporware.  Think of the Phantom console group and Duke Nukem Forever.

Heh, that's a bit much.

We'll just wait and see if they ever actually show up with anything.

You mean besides the pictures and movies on their website?  You're thinking something playable for the media right?
Title: RE: New WiiWare developer...

Yeah, I heard that they lately came up with even MORE concept art. Nothing playable. Just concept art.

I don't want to rag on them unnecessarily, but they're a classic example of jumping the gun.

Hopefully, these new WiiWare devs will be wiser.

Speaking of Nibris...

Stolen concept art is bad, m'kay.

Looks more and more like they're completely full of it every day.

Uh oh IceCold, how did they silence you?

Anyways, you can add Pop to the list!

Quote

New games development studio Nnooo (pronounced NO!) have announced the development of Pop for Nintendo's WiiWare™ service. The single and multi-player game will give gamers the chance to burst their way through waves of bubbles - grabbing power-ups, multipliers, chains and aiming for worldwide high-scores.

Pop is designed to be enjoyed by all ages, either in single player or with up to three friends and allows people to steal points from opponents and use the controller to pump up the bubbles for bigger explosions. It is based around a simple concept which anyone can pick and play with layers of skill involved. Core gamers and those new to the Wii™, or games in general, will all find it enjoyable.

And hey! They're aussie!
