Title: The Wii, The Sensorbar, and The Projector
Post by: Stogi on August 25, 2007, 05:44:10 AM
So I recently picked up a high def projector the other day. Thing was a bitch to setup (ceiling mount), but now that I'm done I couldn't be happier. Anyway, the room that I put it in isn't very big; so small in fact that I can have my Wii chillen to the right of my couch and have the sensor bar sitting on a center speaker across the room.

I started playing some Call of Duty 3 the other day and I noticed how janky the pointing mechanism is. I never really noticed this when I had my sensor bar sitting on top of my TV, but now that's it's practically on the floor I literally have to point down at it while trying to aim and move around.

My question is this: how can I fix this problem? I want to play Metriod Prime 3 on my projector and be able to "aim" at enemies in real-life. I know the pointing mechanism isn't a light-gun, but it felt like it when I played RE4 on my old TV. Is there a wireless sensor bar or a sensor bar extension cable (preferred)? I already have a shelf and double sided tape to fix the height problem.

Did you alter the sensor bar position in the Wii menu?
Just checking, because that can cause aiming issues.

Nyko makes a wireless sensor bar.  Works pretty well, costs $20 at Circuit City or Best Buy.

Only real problem with it is that it takes 4 AA batteries (quite a bit, though you can get rechargeables), and that since it is separate from the Wii, you have to remember to turn it off when you are done with it.  Nyko does have a timer built into it, so that if you forgot to turn it off, you can set the time to turn off the bar after 1 or 2 hours.  So that's at least something.

I think there are extension cables (I found one on eBay) but they aren't official by any means.  I can't imagine they are bad to use - it's just a power cord after all.

Thatguy: Yeah, I changed it up, but it really didn't help.

Strell: Ebay, ay? Hmmmm, I'll have to check that out. Thanks.

i would say get a wireless sensor bar and posisiton it on top of your screen, then set it to the bottom in the wii menu....

that will be the best guarentee that you won't point down

Build some wireless sensor nodes. There's some instructions on this blog. I have some and they work perfectly. First link is the base instructions. Second are some refinements.

It's all good.

I decided to get the Nyko sensor bar and rechargeable batteries. It looks really slick next to my projector frame, so aesthetically speaking, it was worth the money.

Thanks guys for your help. I'm glad I can turn somewhere for answers.

Do we get rewarded with a pic of the new setup?

Yes.  That'll be ten dollars consultation fee, which will go nicely paired with the ten bucks I'm going to get from you losing our little bet.

:p

Well I get my camera back from Japan (don't ask) tomorrow, so why the hell not.
