Title: Wii Production Increase Put on Hold
Post by: WindyMan on August 17, 2007, 07:16:07 AM
Tight supply of (other) key Wii parts is blamed for the scheduling push-back.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=14242

Because of the high demand and not-as-high supply of components such as integrated circuit chips and PCBs (printed circuit boards), Nintendo has had to delay a ramp-up of Wii console production, originally scheduled for June of this year.

In Nintendo's Q2 2007 earnings report, the company had stated that it would be increasing total Wii shipments from 14 million up to 16.5 million units in their current fiscal year, ending March 2008.  It's not exactly clear if this scheduled production increase was meant to account for the additional 2.5 million Wii consoles.  However, the financial report stating this increase was released at the end of July, a month after the scheduled increase was set to begin.  Perhaps this means Nintendo was planning an additional increase on top of the one previously announced?

Well this kind of sucks.  Probably not really Nintendo's fault though.

Fortunately I just aquired a Wii in time for Metroid Prime 3 at my super-secret store with the out-of-the-way electronics section that had Wii's once before.  Since I now have one I'll reveal that location to be Superstore in Abbotsford that had five Wii's after I left with the sixth one yesterday.  Hell maybe with this news I should pick the rest up myself and get on Ebay.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB IAN! I now expect fully impartial advice and comments from you about Wii matters which everyone (mods included) will then rip the shreds out of.

You've taken the plunge, sure, but I'll never believe that you've drunk the kool-aid!

Glad to know you won't be left out in the cold come Metroid Prime 3 like we all feared!

Not to mention left out in the cold when it comes to all those unimpressive upcoming games like BWii, Mario Galaxy, and Smash Brothers.

My Dad bought a Wii two days ago.  My roommates mother is looking for one.  So is his sister.  One of my sisters is in love with Boogie just from the commercials.  It's crazy.  Just crazy.  Now to get him to show up in that Strikers parking lot, even though I haven't parked yet.

Even with all its faults, Boogie is being better received than Alien Syndrome.

They should have just left the dancing to an automatic thing in Boogie.  It's stupid the way is now.  But, from what she's played, she like it.

My super secret location that always has Wii is the entire f###ing country. Seriously, we've been on a trip to the south, pretty much the other end of the Republic and still, Wiis everywhere. Intermediate stop near Leipzig (you know, the GC location). Wiis everywhere.

Also The Register says the part shortage affects laptop manufacturers and such as well.

I haven't seen a Wii regularly in stock anywhere since launch, and I'm in CA.  If you know when they're coming you can plan for one but I've never been able to just walk into a store and see a few waiting to be purchased.

There are Wiis in stock all over the place in Seattle and Redmond, but that's to be expected. :-)

Speaking of which: I was in the Ballard area of Seattle last weekend. A Playstation/PSP demo trailer was in the parking lot of a Fred Meyer department store. There were some PS3s in stock inside the store itself, next to some Wiis. However, two groups of people bought Wiis while I was in the electronics section, and no PS3s were sold. I couldn't help but think that the Sony trailer was backfiring...

"Video games look fun! Hey, let's get this 'Wii' thing! It's cheaper than the PS3 those guys are advertising."

Not suprising. Hope that means more Wiies for the holidays.

I think they are really just secretly stock piling and are about to absolutely flood stores with Wiis come November and December especially for the releases of SMG and SSBB.

People will be so excited to actually see a Wii on the shelf they will all be like "PS3 and Xbox360 whut!?, dude buy the Wii instead"
