Title: Proof Knights own Samurais
Post by: Sir_Stabbalot on August 06, 2007, 03:45:57 PM
100% accurate.

Alright, so it's not. But I do think the katana and samurai in general have gotten to be way too idolized. Gimme a Claymore any day of the week.

Pirate Ninjas > Pirates and Ninjas alone, and Space Pirate Ninjas are the best out of all of them.

Good news, I'll be writing a review about Golden Sun once I am done playing through the game once again.

I'm glad you said you never played it . . . and that this is in the fun house . . . or it woulda been another war! WITH SAMURAIS and KNIGHTS!

Golden Sun sucked.  I did play it.  I couldn't get through the whole thing from immense shock of boredom.

Lol, just having fun.  Golden Sun:  I did play it, didn't finish it because I got distracted.  Intended to finish it sometime, but never got to it.  Now doomed to rest for eternity in a drawer as one of my unfinished games.  I didn't get anywhere, really, so I was at no point to judge the game by.  It looked nice for the platform/time period released, though.

Golden Sun has a horrible tendency to have lengthy conversations that really have no substance. It's one of it's biggest faults.

Another fault is the people that play it. Which in turn is why I prefer Knights.

Bad robot! You need a spanking. So do all the knights.

Hmm... looks like I'm out-numbered and out-gunned. I didn't bring enough paddles.

Ok, I'll let it go this time, but don't let me catch you war-mongering again.

Autobots, ROLL OUT!

(Ok, I prefer Black Arachnia over Arcee. there's something about a menacing woman-robot with huge robotic rockets. So sayeth Optimus Prime.)

Samurai are better than Knights, Ninjas, and Pirates combined.

If I was going to trust my safety and life to anyone it would be a Samurai, because I would trust their honor and commitment more.

A Claymore is a fantastic sword, but there is no way you will get the speed or precision with a Claymore that you can achieve with Katana...and you can hold Two Swords for better protection.

Now, personally I would go for the:

Anthropomorphic Samurai Space Rabbit;  Miyamoto Usagi, as I am sure he could handle anything thrown at him.

Opinion, not fact.

Now, if we're shifting to a debate on who would make a better bodyguard, then the Samurai Code would help. But a western knight could easily be just as loyal to the Code of Chivalry.

Don't underestimate the speed of a Greatsword. Most weighed only around eight pounds or so and could be swung pretty fast. And the Katana was a two-handed blade, in no way shape or form was it meant to be dual wielded. And the martial arts that do use twin blades tend to use shorter ones, which a Greatsword like a Zweihander would easily outreach.

Then again, I'm biased to the Greatsword as it was often overlooked and classified today as being some huge 30+ pound weapon. Which is ridiculous. In my opinion, the best weapon for average medieval troops would probably be a broadsword and shield. Greatswords were effective against heavily armored foes (I question the effectiveness of the Katana against heavy plate, I believe I heard ones that could pierce armor were made only during a few eras) and pike formations, but I'd give the average soldier the standard boradsword and shield combo.

"A Claymore is a fantastic sword, but there is no way you will get the speed or precision with a Claymore that you can achieve with Katana...and you can hold Two Swords for better protection."

Katanas are VERY brittle in comparison to Western longswords, so in a one-on-one confrontation the samurai would most likely lose...(You know those anime scenes where samurais clash with their swords?  They just didn't happen all that much because they were afraid their blades would break!)

And not all samurai were honorable, just like not all knights, ninjas, and pirates were dishonorable...It's a character issue, not a profession issue...

Mythbusters proved that it is actually very hard to break the Katana in hand to hand sword combat.  They are just too flexible.

It was quite an interesting episode because they even built a Robot Arm that could swing stronger and with more force and humanly possible, and no breakage.

And yes, the Katana is usually a two handed sword, but Miyamoto Musashi used both his short sword and Katana in combat.

I do understand the Knights code of Chivilary, but I do not trust it as much as the Bushido code of honor.

As well, Usagi Yojimbo is one of the best graphical novel series you can read so I will stick with my Samurai bunny.  Laugh it up, but I he would defeat any pirate, ninja, or turtle.

I'd attribute that to better, more efficient techniques developed in recent years...

It's hard to break a sword in general. And I don't really trust that test Mythbusters did. It looked like they were using replica swords. Remember, Japan had very poor iron.

I believe that one of the most skilled swordsmen in Japanese history is an exception, not the rule.

Ok, a Pirate Ninja Turtle is pretty good.

but remember, my original thought was Space Usagi.

So you need to go on more:

A Space Pirate Ninja Turtle may be the most ultimate creation ever.

No way.  A Musketeer would wipe the floor with a Knight, a Pirate, a Ninja, and a Samurai.  The real challenge would be which combination of two of these four would pose the greatest threat to him.  Any combo with a Samurai is the greatest threat since his katana might actually chop through a rapier, a foil, or an epee.  So he would always have to waste his bullet in him.  No matter what armor anybody is wearing, they would all fall prey to a single, pointed thrust to the heart.  Not even the heaviest armor could stop fencing thrusts, all of which stress maximum range and speed.

They even get cool hats
Title: RE: Proof Knights own Samurais
Post by: KDR_11k on August 13, 2007, 10:54:04 PM
A musketeer won't win against a pirate, the pirate just grabs his AK74 and kills the musketeer from much longer range than the musket can accurately deal damage at. The Ninja wouldn't charge head on, his job is to approach a target unseen and musketeers aren't exactly well versed in camouflage.

But overall pitting anyone 1v1 against a sniper (which I presume you want to make the musketeer act as) is unfair, snipers are specialized for single-target elimination, in a real situation the sniper would get killed by the target's friends if he messes up and matching the enemy's numbers 1:1 with snipers is not feasible.

Now who would win: Manfred von Richthofen or Icarus?

Even things that aren't pizza are better pizza than Red Baron pizza.
