I like this idea, now we just need an expanded palette for Mii creation.

The Channel is now live. Download away.
edit: I don't feel like making any Miis right now so I'll check back in on that channel sometime later in the week.

I'm glad I made a bunch of Mii ahead of time, I'm already at 3 stars in less than 5 mins!

This is $#^@! dumb!
Not the channel itself, but my inability to use it. Why, you ask?
When my Wii was acting up, giving me speckles on the screen and stuff, I had to send in my Wii for repairs. Rather than repair my Wii, Nintendo transferred all the data to a new Wii. Which is fine, I didn't lose any Wii Points or saves or anything.
EXCEPT for now all the Miis I made on my original Wii are considered foreign, and I can't submit them or use them as Mii Artisans even though I myself have created them!
Oh, sure, you say, recreate them. I could - but not the Mii that represents myself! I now dislike how games tie themselves to a particular Mii, if I delete it I will lose the save. While for games like Wii Sports it makes sense, I shouldn't have to lose my WarioWare and Metroid Prime 3 save! Unless they say "oops, your Mii is gone - would you like to reassign this save file to another Mii?" - but judging by the constant warnings I doubt this is the case.
The alternative is to make a second Jon Mii. Sheesh, it would be easier if I could see what I chose for my first Jon Mii, but of course I can't edit. Silly.
Sounds like a great idea otherwise. >_<

I'm annoyed at this problem as well as many of my original Mii creations were done on other consoles, including my original Mii avatar.
It does, however, prevent people from submitting Miis that weren't created by them, so its basically a win/lose situation.

My miis of the Earthbound cast are out along with my Sheena from ToS mii. I think I'll put up my Sailor Jupiter mii later. But seriously, as far as contests go, the mii channel needs to be buffed up to make it more interesting.

I uploaded a Sheena Mii too! :P
I agree that customization is too limited to make unique Miis for the contests. I've seen about a million identical Marios floating around.
Besides that though I'm fairly impressed with this channel as I wasn't really expecting much when it was announced.

THERE IS A SOLUTION TO USING YOUR MIIs IF YOU HAD TO SEND IN YOUR WII FOR REPAIR. BEHOLD:
Is there any way to edit my Miis on my computer? Indeed, it appears that intrepid individuals have sought out to do this exact thing. If you have bluetooth setup on your PC, you can use Mii Mega-mall ( http://www.miimall.com ) and the Mii Editor (http://www.miieditor.com ) to transfer your Miis to your computer, edit them to match your new Wii (via MAC address), and send them back to the Wii as being editable. More information about that can be found in the Mii Editor FAQ. Thank you Pale over at NWR for this information. Shecky further adds: It probably makes the Bluetooth computer look like a Wii Remote. And you can send a Mii to a Wii Remote as part of the Mii channel. You can even pull Mii's off the remote.
I sent my Wii in for repair, and when I got it back, I cannot edit my Miis! Nintendo transferred them to what appears to be an entirely new Wii, and it’s telling me that I cannot edit a Mii I didn’t create! Why must you toy with me so, Nintendo? Basically it’s like you no longer have rights to the Miis in question. Use the solution above. I realize that’s not the best answer in the world, but it’s either try that or live in your misery.

I just downloaded the channel as well, it was pretty fast! I like the idea but I don't like the fact that Miis only have initials above their heads: sometimes it's hard to tell who they are... I'll look more into this channel later in the week though.

Phew. Only 90 blocks.
Also, doesn't it seem a bit slow, taking 2 weeks for a contest, 1 week for submission and another for judging? Or will they constantly rotate them in and out so we have a new contest to judge every week?

I got an email back from Nintendo affirming that the situation has not changed and that Miis are not editable. At least, not OFFICIALLY.
I had thought to ask about Mii editors before, and I believe me and my brother had experimented with this earlier. While we can clone Miis with now-matching addresses, the problem remains with all the related saves.
With the popularity of the Wii, why can't I find any Wii save game editors on the 'net? If I could just edit the saves that are tied to a particular Mii to instead be tied to another one, then I wouldn't have to lose any saves or have an extra Mii of me.

I wonder if you can get around the initials thing by writing out name in single letters. You know so the initials spell the name :p
So for mario you might put
Meat Anus Rally In Open
which with their initial system would make. M.A.R.I.O. Or what if you just used spaces between each letter. M A R I O
Title: RE: Check Mii Out Channel
Post by: Shecky on November 12, 2007, 06:45:33 AM
You pick two letters for the initials..... no exceptions
Edit: Speaking of which I've submitted 3 of my own, 2 under study, 1 under art (all male)
Interesting to see if anyone runs into any of them.
It seems that call friends is based of initials, gender, and category.

I didn't write it down for the first one I submitted, but did for the other 2. It's to allow others to find your submission by specifically searching for that number. So if I told you to check out 6982-8705-2091, you would see one of my submissions if you do a search for that #.

there is a way to search for someone's Mii using the number it gives you when you submit it
There needs to be a board or site that allows people to post:
Person's name - Check mii out #

Does anyone know how how the "call friends" mode works? When I did it with a Samus (suit) Mii it also called a bunch of awesome zero suit Samus with different initials (ZS instead of SM/SA) so it's not based on similar looks, gender, or name/initial (unless it keeps track of the Mii's "real" name and just need to find how to look at it...)

It has to be based on appearance. Nintendo probably has an algorithm that can tell how similar one Mii is to another by assigning values to the facial features' type, size, and location. It also brings up all the other Miis created by the same person if there's room for them.

The channel was impressive at first, but it's so limited. When you do a search, it only comes up with one screen of characters, and there are A LOT of repeats.
So, if I want to look for female celebrities, for example, I put "Female" and "Acting" into my search criteria. The channel then comes back with 50 Miis, 20 of which are Miss Piggy. WHY? Why can't I search for more? And how unoriginal do you have to be to post a Miss Piggy when there are already 50 of them on there?
So far, I've only found two Miis that I thought were good enough to import to my own Mii Plaza.
There also NEEDS to be a way to see the Miis that you've submitted without doing a tedious and pointless 12-number search for them!
A really great concept that should have been in the system at launch, but is instead just incredibly limiting and disappointing, especially since they've had an entire year to develop it.

Today starts the judging period for the "Mario Mii" contest.
What annoys me is that what's with people submitting completely unrelated Miis? The contest was called 'MARIO WITHOUT HIS CAP!!!!!" Why are people being jerks and submitting Miis of Kakashi sensei, Bob Marley and some random A-hole?
If anyone sees my Mario entry (I'm called A.Pedro) please vote for it!

Title: RE: Check Mii Out Channel
Post by: NeoThunder on November 27, 2007, 10:48:25 AM
I just checked mine and my mario came in 4th tier....whatever that means
He was right at about halfway up the mountain
I guess people were wanting a true representation of mario, I tried to go a little humorous. I made mine have a white shirt instead of red ( like everyone else i knew would do) and then I made what I think was a really good mario face, but then gave him the jamacian hairstyle (can't think of better name for what it's called).
Did anybody by chance get in the top 100?.....or get a really low score

My Mario came in 9th tier. It didn't break the top 50, though.
I really loved the presentation of the winners! The mountain animation was awesome, complete with suspenseful music to boot! And the souvenir photo? PRICELESS!
Even if I didn't win the contest I really loved how well the winners were presented and the photo was a really great idea.

-Quite judging and return later

I'd like to take a moment to vent about the placement of my Father Time Mii (6226-9871-3465). 9th tier? Come on! He should've been in the top 50. Plenty of the winners created old men, and plenty created clock faces, but none managed to do what I did: create a mii of an old man who had a time piece on his person.

Now that the channel is capable of displaying all the Miis submitted by one particular person, they need to freaking let us view the miis of anyone on our friends list easily.

Also, one other cool thing I discovered is now thanks to the update, if your looking for a particular Mii, you can make one similar to the one your looking for, name it something like "S. Colbert" if you were trying to find steven colbert mii's. Then upload the one you created, and when you view it, it gives you the option of calling his/her friends.
