Good. I enjoyed Tales of Symphonia. I'd buy a sequel.

He also said it would use the same engine as the gamecube game so nothing special.

How could hate ToS?? If I threw that game in a blender it would come out as pure liquid awesome. Do you hate awesomeness, too?

Only thing I didn't like about ToS . . . was the american VA's. God why is it so hard to include an option for Japanese VA's?
I hated having the main character remind me of Robin from Teen Titans the entire time . . . (yeah I know you can turn off the voices but it takes away from the game).

That said, I'd probably buy another if it had the same engine, sure, but I'd hope for more improvements to multiplayer support rather than just tacking it on.

I'm sorry ToS was not pure awesomeness. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the game. I'm just still sort of peeved that I couldn't get into that door in the Mines and couldn't get the chest open with the uber weapons.

I don't think those are related, they have some similarity in the names of the world and obviously the clichees of jRPGs but it seems more FF-esque to me in that the names are more of a series standard than actually referring to the same places.

Well according to this: Links to Tales of Phantasia it would seem that the game indeed takes place in the same universe and has many elements of continuity connecting the two games.

Why does it just get to be you two's dreams?! Damnit I *LOVE* Tales. My yearly palythrough is coming up (For that matter, so is my Skies playthrough). I would love it for this to be true. Perhaps it will be a game that takes place between Symphonia and Phantasia or be a complete and utter hot remake of Phantasia (Go ahead and hate ports/remakes all you want, this is one that would STILL be new for a lot of people, regardless of its GBA release)

I can't wait for another sequal to ToS. I hope that they improve the graphics (overhaul of the overworld's graphics), add new attacks (and maybe some characters), and include EVERY possible RPG cliche' imaginable (although well blended together) in tribute to the 1st game.

Oh please, if the game's story bosses were replaced with the hidden bosses, the average player would need levels in the upper 80s to comfortably succeed without relying on cheey item tricks. People would probably complain if the bosses were that tough, that EARLY. Of course your non-learning, Lloyd-centric, non-exploring method of play is too boring to even hear of such secret battles. What kind of "RPG player" are you without bothering to seek out such simple secrets? "Hidden bosses" should've been enticing enough, which of course lead to hidden rewards/treasures, but more importantly, they help you realize how weak your Mithos-busting lvl. 62 Lloyd really is.
Edit: To clarify, SKILL potentially improves the game experience by saving you 5 to 15 levels worth of leveling up required to comfortably beat the next boss in line. That's a significant number of hours of level grinding saved, and increases your upfront challenge since you're battling with somewhat underpowered characters.
~~~~~
ToS multiplayer is effective for only 2 melee players. The camera unfortunately only follows Player 1, and does not zoom out to show every player. Magick users who sit back and cast have slightly less issues. But the fun is in chaining melee combos on bosses with tons of HP.
If you're wondering, I HAVE been playing recently, setting up for the Team Colosseum Exhibition match.
Actually, the multiplayer is great if player one offers to be a mage player. If his goal is to get as far away from the enemies as possible, then he can effectively show everyone else what's going on. Of course, this role is a little boring, though.
The game did NOTHING to breadcrumb those experiences for me. It's like the difference between Everquest and WoW. I didn't even know those experiences existed. The only one I became aware of, ever, was some big 4-armed skeleton I couldn't beat... and that I had NO INCENTIVE to beat.
You may like it, but you've just described a niche, extremely hardcore way of assessing the game. That's okay... some people like Rogue-likes. Not me.
I have this talent to miss every secret there is in an RPG. Never met any hidden bosses, didn't find anything that could cause a different ending, didn't even know other costumes existed until reading it on the forums, etc.
I did try controlling other characters but found their combo potential to be less than Lloyd's so I found myself going back to Lloyd most of the time because the other characters suffered less from being under AI control.
Then it wouldn't be a Tales of Symphonia 2. They would have to name it something else, like Tales of Demonica, Tales of Hysteria, Tales of Tales, or Tales of Something Relevant. A sequal would have to keep it in the same realm or at least use the same characters.
Use Final Fantasy X2 as the example (although many hated that game compared to X).
Overworlds are usually fail from a gameplay perspective but they do give a sense of location and exploration instead of making locations feel like menu items scattered in random positions over a picture with mountains and stuff.
More details:
~ Main characters' names are Emil and Malta ~ Story takes place three years after Symphonia (not two, like I posted earlier...) ~ The game will feature Wii-mote direct controls, allowing players to move around by pointing at sections of the map. ~ While not strictly Wii related, the game will also include the ability to capture and breed monsters for use as allies in battle.
