Title: Metroid Prime Hunters? No. Brothers In Arms DS = WOW!!!
Post by: Kairon on June 07, 2007, 01:36:52 PM
Watch It.

Read it.

Watch Gameplay

It's pushing the DS to levels of polish, presentation, production action I never thought I'd see. It actually looks like a console experience brought to handhelds. (Buy a PSP? Hehe... can you say DS Exclusive?)

Looks very choppy. If they fix up the framerate, though, I'd definitely consider it.

Does it use touch-screen control for aiming?

EDIT: I guess it does.

I'm actually sad that CoD4 won't be WWII. I wasn't particularly bothered by the ubiquity of that topic.

It looks good from a visual standpoint, but almost looks unplayable at that frame-rate. If they smooth it out, they would have just raised the bar on the DS.

Wow, is this what cellphone games are looking like now? I may have to give them another try.

I was shocked when I heard that this had been a cellphone game... though it prob came out on those frickin' expensive $500 phones anyhow. Phooey.

Anyone played it yet? I've seen only one review, it's favourable (8.7) but the site also liked Dead & Furious (8.7, GameRankings average somewhere around 60%). They say the framerate never drops.

From what, 18 FPS?

Maybe the DS has trouble running games this demanding? I think they should see about bundling it with a RAM expansion like the Opera browser does and that may help.....

I watched the trailer and was very impressed. For as much action that is going on it looked to hold up pretty well with the framerate in my opinion.

This game twice as graphical as Far Cry: Vengeance on the Wii... confirmed.

Dunno, the town video didn't look choppy to me at all. Some things (explosions) looked choppy but they seemed to run on a different framerate than the main game, possibly to save processing power.

the explosions were all the same, they seemed like sprites to me... pretty smart though...

Better review.

The game was released last week in Europe BTW which is why European sites have reviews up already.

Sounds like the game is short and mostly brainless shooting (apparently the PC game has a lot of tactics and stuff) though I doubt the AI could handle any real tactics on a DS. Has online multiplayer but only five maps and only deathmatch or TDM. Seems to be a nice game as long as it lasts, knowing Ubisoft it'll end on the pyramid for 20€ within a few months which is when I'll buy it.

looks amazing if u ask me.  The way i see it, as long as it performs better than Perfect Dark FPS wise, its still very much playable.

The Eurogamer review says it's fun but very flawed. Definitely sounds like a "wait for the pricedrop" game to me.

Yeah, and Ubisoft games tend to fall in price pretty quickly. I'll pick it up when it's fallen over, because the BiA games are awesome. :] Frame rate looks very N64-ish but oh weeell. I hope the Wii port of the two combined is decent too, it'd give me two less reasons to keep the Xbox around.

Don't buy it just because you like BiA, from the sound of it it's more like Doom in WW2 than Rainbow Six in WW2.

I wish Nintendo would try pricedrops sometime, did ANY Nintendo game for the DS get a pricedrop? Never seen that, they hold the full price until they disappear from the shelves some day. Should at least introduce a Player's Choice or similar cheap games label, the only cheap DS games I see are made by third parties. Though I think it was the same with the GBA.

I remember thinking when Sony introduced Platinum titles for PSP, maybe, just MAYBE Nintendo would follow. But nope. =\ But yeah, there seems to have been a big increase in cheaper third party games. Many new releases here are $50, while Nintendo still charges $70. With the exception of the non-games.

Cheaper third party games? Haven't seen those, third parties have a tendency to charge 40€ even for non games when they're new.

With DS games at $30 US regularly, that doesn't give them a lot of price flexibility I guess between the manufacturer, publisher, and retailer wanting profits.

Well they're 40€ here, sometimes even 45. That's a lot of money so they should be able to drop prices more often than they do (maybe one out of five games gets a pricedrop before disappearing off the shelves forever).

I got it! The levels are a little short, but it is pretty much what you saw in the video! I like it, even though the movement isn't that perfect at times on the D-Pad.

Wow....It looks amazing.

This makes me want a new Golden Eye so much more now.

I picked it up. Its amazing. I tried to invert the Y axis and that didn't work very well for me. But playing through the first level was easy enough. Some issues with tossing grenades, but if careful it works fine.

What I thought was cool was the beginning: you are caught in a tree from a parachute jump and you can look around. In the sky are other chutes, people are running around below you, and the horizon isn't a grey fog but a mix of stuff. It may not really be meaningful stuff, but if you can compare the polygons to the N64 the backgrounds offer more than say Turok.
