Title: Mortal Kombat Wii
Post by: D_MaN87 on May 31, 2007, 03:23:01 PM
I think it makes for a fine addition to the wii library. I hope this encourages other fighters to be made for the wii, as MKA shows it can be done. The controls can be shoddy at times, but overall work fine after you practice. It took me around 20 minutes to get timing right, but once you get it right, it beats the 1000 button combos anyday.

Wii controls cannot save a fundamently flawed fighter. I'll be waiting for GGXX Accent Core.

MK Armageddon is pretty awesome, especially on Wii. The Wii controls make the game a lot more fun to play, it's almost as if you're casting a spell to make your character perform a move. Using the D-Pad for attacks is also pretty cool, at least in my opinion.

Worth the $50 purchase, then? Or just a rental? I have been thinking about buying this game since it was announced.

If you like MK, yes.

I'm a big fan of the mortal kombat series, so I'd buy it. However if you arn't a MK fan or a fighter fan, a rental should be enough.

unpolished kart racing and adventures games with a bad camera?
I'm not used to the waggle attacks either, but I will give those more time.

MK Konquest is fun, but the camera and graphics suck. MK Shaolin Monks was a lot more fun, even though it kind of sucked too. Just stick to Arcade Mode. I really wish they included some classic MK games in this one, like they did for PS2 (UMK3).

Well, I just picked the game up yesterday...I am enjoying it so far, but it has definately taken me a bit to get used to. The button combinations for the other moves are what gets me - do people actually memorize all 60+ moves for each player (granted many of the combinations are shared between players)? If I could just zap all of those moves and combos into my memory I would be having a lot more fun with it, but I will probably never ever use most of the moves. I haven't played it with anything but the Wii Remote yet, and I find that generally the motion controls are responsive. It says in the book that your motions need to be about 12", and as long I keep that in mind and don't try to do quick, small movements, it seems fine.
One thing that is frustrating me is the Kreate a Fatality...it's much more fun to just push a single combination and watch the fatality, and I find it a bit ridiculous that you have to guess which motion to do next. Having to do them to on-screen cues would have been fine, but when I want to pull off a kick-@$$ finisher and I can only get two gestures figured out, it's really anti-climactic.

I picked up a Wii classic controller today, it seems to work much better than the waggle. I do really like the fact that they used a mouse pointer on the main menu though. Most Wii ports don't have that.

I finally had some time to open this up and I've been doing the moves training.
I'm no fighting game fan but this is AWESOME!!! The moves you do are small, quick, and it feels like there's not a lot of lag once you've completed the motion. Everything is sooo much easier than I thought it would be and in mere seconds I'm already doing awesome stuff! Oh boy oh boy!
