"We made mistakes," they told the magazine. According to Spiegel, Ubisoft wanted to be first to capitalize on Wii and in its haste to release product it sacrificed the quality of the titles. Ubisoft has reportedly learned from its mistakes, though, and is promising that the quality of its forthcoming Wii projects will be significantly better.

Looks like Wii owners have taste in games after all.

No we don't.  Red Steel and Raving Rabids sold way more than they diserved to.

But people were upset about it, and didn't plan to buy the sequels.  Now that Ubi has fessed up to it, we expect the next games to be better, though they won't be, and we'll all buy them again, just because we have hope.  Undying, everlasting gamer's hope.  Think Sega.

I got a feeling he was referring to games like GT Pro Series, Monster 4X4 World Circuit and Far Cry Vengeance.

Red Steel was pretty good and so was Raving Rabids. Sure Red Steel could have used another month in development but it was better to have it as a launch title. The other 3 games I mentioned really sucked and you could tell they were direct GameCube/PS2 ports that they just jammed the Wii mote into.

GT Pro Series was fun too... though obviously lacking in production values.

I think this is pretty neat actually, you don't hear enough of companies apologizing for low quality products. Hopefully Ubisoft will change for the next round of games!

Ubisoft didn't even make GT Pro Series to begin with.  That game would've been far better off remade from the ground up, but of course they wanted those quick launch sales...

I had fun with Red Steel, and considering it spent 60% of its dev life on PC hardware, I don't blame them for it being very unpolished.

Also, of COURSE they need to apologize.

EA is turning up the heat on them with original franchises like Boogie, Playground, etc.

They need to respond in turn or be left in the dust.

You know I completely understand Ubisoft's situation.  They decided to take a gamble and support the Wii heavy.  But this gamble must have really scared the heads because Nintendo has been on a decline recently (except for the DS.)  I am sure they didn't want to spend too much money on development and lose it all putting them in huge financial situations.

So Ubisoft decided to port a few games over relatively quickly for (hopefully) quick cash, and they tried to release 2 original franchises for launch.  This is a tough task seeing the schedule they faced for launch.

And overall I think Ubisoft succeeded, and I am glad they took the gambles, even if they didn't give us AAA titles.

Red Steel and Raving Rabbids were both pretty good games, and helped flesh out our launch lineup.

Now Ubisoft has made a good amount of money on Nintendo, AND has earned a lot of good faith for Nintendo fans desperate for 3rd party support at the launch of the Wii.

Moving into the future they now have 2 new IPs they can sell on the Wii (Red Steel 2 and Raving Rabbids 2) both should be great games.

I would like to say:  Ubisoft we accept your apology and THANK YOU, for giving the Wii a chance before any other developer was willing to.

Ubisoft hasn't apologized for ruining Rainbow Sux and Ghost Freakon.

Can you really ruin something that's already terrible?

Splinter Cell co-op was a LOT of fun, even though it was a port.

Ok, as crazy as this may sound, I'm going to say it. Apologize by giving us a better port of Far Cry! Yes, make Far Cry for the Wii again, this time without sucking! Then, allow people who bought the first one to exchange it for the new better (hopefully) port for free! The original Far Cry was pretty cool, and it's just such a shame Wii got such a crappy port.

I may be Ubi's greatest defender on these boards, but on this point you have my COMPLETE DISAGREEMENT.
