Title: Half-Life 2 "Black Box" cancelled
Post by: Smoke39 on May 18, 2007, 09:40:36 PM
The "Black Box" would have had HL2: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. The "Orange Box", which has those plus HL2 and HL2: Episode 1, will be the only available option now. Valve had the following to say regarding those who already own HL2 and Episode 1:
"Those who purchase the PC version of The Orange Box will get three separate Steam product codes: One for the three new games, one for HL2, and one for Episode One. This way a PC Orange Box owner can give away their Half-Life 2 or Episode One unused Steam product codes if they don't need a copy of those games."
Does this strike anyone else as being kinda stupid? Maybe they'll make them available seperately on Steam.

I was sad. I want Team Fortress 2 and Portal, but I don't care for the normal FPS, so Half Life games don't appeal to me. I may try to find an alternative way to purchase just what I want, like you suggested, perhaps Steam.

I would like to throw my humble opinion out here. With any opinion, there will be pwoplw who disagree; if you disagree with my opinion, then I must apologize. However, this is an internet forum, made up mostly of opinions, and as such I must speak.
It is my humble opinion that this move is ****ing retarded.

They're being released individually on Steam.

Of course they're going to be released via Steam. And anyone on here bitching about this obviously has an Internet connection. So quit your belly-aching.

The thing is, I'm fairly certain buying the games in the black box cost less then buying them separately.

I'm not belly-aching, I just think it's stupid. I personally don't mind downloading with Steam, but some people prefer to buy physical copies.

that's a shame cause I know it'll cost more to get all 3 separately. maybe they'll give a super discount for getting it early through steam like they do with some other titles.

so? maybe they're using dial-up or <1Mbit DSL, and in either case, downloading games can be a pain (and considering these games won't be exactly small, it'd be pretty slow), especially if you could simply buy the discs and be done with it...

Maybe Bill found a mod that changes Alyx into a little girl.
