It's about time.

(The fact that the lead designer is a former EALA employee explains why some of the game's descriptions sound so much like C&C3 units :P)

the trailer looks great, IGN has a sick tonne of images up for it that look fantastic. and it'll be playable on XP and non DX10 pcs and macs for those people too unfortunate to not have an actual computer.

Looks good. I hope I can soon get back into pulling turbo-newbie tank drops on my buddies. That's always fun.

I can't say I'm looking forward to this as much.  It seems like only the Protoss is getting anything truly new.  Which is different then how the Warcraft series progress where each one was pretty different in its own way.  Also the graphics don't look notable impoved.  Which I'm for if they want to keep a style I just thought that was always teh more realistic of the series.

This will be over-hyped and then fans will be bitterly  disappointed.

I won't be dissapointed cause I'm not expecting a whole bunch. Just a prettier starcraft with some new things here and there. also, it was just announced two days ago. There's plenty of time for them to announce all the new features and whatnot.

The fact that they focused on the Protoss innovations was intentional...apparently they want to reveal the new Terran and Zerg innovations closer to the release date. I wouldn't judge the game as a whole at this point, probably later on when they reveal more of the new stuff. The first-impressions are pretty good. The graphics are sharp and colorful...apparently some people don't like it, but then again photorealism is overrated. I'd rather have the graphics look like what they do now at release, and have a game that runs well on a decent computer and is balanced and fun to play.

As to overhype, a lot of other companies would probably drop the ball...not saying that Blizzard won't, but they'll take their time to get it right. After all, they have a lot more riding on Starcraft 2, reputation-wise, than EA has riding on...say, C&C3 or Nintendo on the next Zelda game (they only have 3 franchises!). Still, there will always be people who will be disappointed when it comes out.

I doubt they'll mess it up.  If they just keep everything balanced, it will work out.

All I know is in one of the screenshots, I saw a Siege Tank. That makes me happy.

I'm more then willing to bet that their is going to be new stuff for everyone in the game. They just wanted to show a bit right now so they can keep the hype up until launch.

I think its highly unlikely that fans will be disappointed with this game.
That being said, All I want is a graphically updated version of StarCraft with new missions, I don't need a bunch of new stuff.

Why mess with perfection?

Warcraft 2?

Edit:  Seriously enough.  I enjoyed Starcraft and the multiplayer aspect of it was vastly superior to Warcraft 1 & 2, for me add 3 and WoW as well.  With that in mind, take no offense here people, these types of game I like to occasional duke it out multiplayer with a friend but for me the meat is the single player mode and when a game makes it obvious that the single-player mode is second to the multiplayer mode in this particular genre,*cough*Warcraft 3*cough*, count me out.  Thats one of my biggest worries overall.  With the mulitplayer aspect of it being so popular I really think that the single player could truly suffer.  Which would be a shame.  Also so everyone is clear on this I hate escort and keep people alive missions.

End of Line.

Everyone hates Protect the Object missions.  In any genre.  Because they suck.

Except.

BlastCorp. was almost more of just a timed mission than a Protect the Object one.

You know what's cool that I just found out about Starcraft II?  It has been in production since 2003, right after Warcraft III was finished, according to IGN

The rocket pack-enhanced Terran units look "new" to me... and certainly add a new element.

When was the last time you played StarCraft? The difference is night and day between the first/Broodwars and what has been seen of the second. A huge improvment over WarCraft III's look as well.

Last I played must have been two years back.  To me they just look less fuzzy more then anything else.  A few better lighting effects and I will agree that they look better then Warcraft 3 but I think that Starcraft and Warcraft 2 in general look better then Warcraft 3.  In still form they just don't look like that overall huge leap.  I'm going to have to see them in some higher quality video with a large army to see how it maintains in general.  Starcraft always seem to slow down on me.

Also the "new" terran units sounds like a modification of the standard unit.

Remember when Starcraft was first shown, and the screenshots looked so much like Warcraft 2 that people called it Orcs in Space?  I'm getting that same feeling again looking at Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3.  The Terran units look too much like toys, especially the siege tanks.  That oversized blockiness worked for Warcraft because it was a low tech setting.  It does not serve Starcraft well.

I admit that I don't know much about PC gaming. What I have gathered, however, is that Blizzard is so protective of their IPs that they absolutely do not release anything until they're happy with it (which is probably why Starcraft Ghost is in development hell).

If I were a fan, I wouldn't be too worried. At the very least, it should play well. At the same time, I understand that fans have been waiting like 117 years for a sequel so hopes for the title are through the roof.

I agree with PartyBear.  StarCraft was really gritty, and so far SC2 looks like plastic toys.  It looks pretty nice for what it is, but it feels off to me.

There's a new video up.  It's on the StarCraft II home page.  The game still looks like StarCraft.  You may want to check it out, though, if you can, look for a streaming version somewhere else online, that torrent download thing Blizzard does is slow.

Well, Warhammer 40k figures are actually models. They break far too easily to be toys.

I still say Blizzard just takes most of their stuff from Warhammer and Warhammer 40k.

Don't take this the wrong way but if you do any sort of RTS with a touch of space theme or fantasy in it you have a very good chance of running into something Warhammer has already done.  It just seems so huge and encompassing.

Edit: lol.  The splash screen for the blizzard website is funny.

While I definetely do not like the disjoint between the little character picture and the unit itself this quote sort of explains it:

What will StarCraft II's rating be?

We are aiming for a T-rating in the US, and similar ratings elsewhere in the world, but those details won't be finalized until we get closer to release.

Which is much easier to do with something that looks more cartoony.

A half-hearted attempt at least. Assault Marines are named as such not because of their thruster packs, but their focus on close-combat.

Just got done listening to the hour panel and watching the 20 minute gameplay video in its entirety.  I've come off with mixed feelings.  The Mechanical units look nice and some of the physic stuff is cool.  Then on the flipside I was sort of bummed when I heard that Blizzard now takes the approach of Multiplayer first and Singleplayer second.
