Title: Ghost Squad
Post by: Smoke39 on May 10, 2007, 05:10:42 PM
link

Some Sega lightgun game that allows for four players (doesn't say if this mode's co-op, but there is at least 2-player co-op).  Apparently it's a lot like Virtua Cop.

This makes two lightgun style games for Wii now, yes?  I am pleased.

Co-op is a WONDERFUL THING!!!

...and seriously, this game should've come out by now. I have no idea why people are dragging their feet on such obvious, cheap, and markettable releases. Maybe UbiSoft can make their own light gun game and pack-in a pun-shell that costs $20 extra?

Oh, but I've actually heard that Ghost Squad is apparently a very good game, and we can see from the link (and elsewhere) that it's not just shooting but multiple paths, Quick-Time Events, and semi-random enemy patterns... oh, and bomb defusing.

I played this at Dave & Buster's last year.

Good substitute for Time Crisis, and good way to kill time while exercising your useless trigger finger muscles that got tired of playing phailed Wii WWII shooters.

I'm a game tech and work on this one all the time.

Pretty fun game though, and yes it pretty much is run off a dreamcast. In the arcade it uses a Naomi board, which is almost exactly like a DC except it has twice as much system and graphics memory.

On a side note, I really wish Sega would have designed the guns a little better..the damn things always break.

Cool  Donut007, THe place I work sometimes provides fans and power supplies for a local game service company. Is Golden Tee Golf still the most popular game?

" Is Golden Tee Golf still the most popular game?"

Every bar with a few arcade machines usually has a Golden Tee somewhere in that collection, even though I've never seen anyone play it before.

Well Golden Tee is still popular in some places, mainly bars and such. But as far as arcades go, it doesn't get too much play anymore. It's one of those have to own games, but it's never on our top 10 list. Actually Ghost Squad is always in our top 5, the rail shooters seem to always be a favorite. HOD4, and TC4 are always up there too.

Yeah I've played Ghost Squad a few times at an arcade near my school.  I'd say its just as good as Time Crisis, I would play it more but the thing is like $1 to play.  I've never really played the game to know how much there is to it, but the NWR report says there is only 3 levels, wtf?
Title: RE:Ghost Squad
Post by: Donutt007 on May 12, 2007, 06:11:43 PM
Well in the arcade version it only has three levels...well it kinda has nine levels.

Each level has three different versions, basically an easy, medium, hard type settings, but they have different paths and such so it's not just more enemies.

IGN Wii: For the Wii version specifically, what has gone into the game that wasn't included previously in Ghost Squad? Are there any new modes or gameplay elements?

Yosuke Okunari: This time, the game supports four-player gameplay. The two-player gameplay of the arcade version is very exciting, but we want the Wii users to play Ghost Squad when inviting friends and playing games with four friends.

They don't specifically say there'll be 4-player co-op.  In fact, this answer seems to me to suggest that there might not be.

Quote

IGN Wii: How does the four-player multiplayer work on Wii? How is this different from the main game?

Yosuke Okunari
: I can't tell you the details yet, but we want to offer enjoyment of competing skills with friends other than just the co-op mode similar to the two-player multiplayer of the arcade version.

The wording is kind of awkward.  To me it sounds like they're adding some competitive mode for 4 players, either in addition to a 4-player co-op mode, or instead of 4-player co-op.

I don't really care either way, as long as there's 2-player co-op.

Also, from IGN's quickie hands-on:

Quote

but according to SEGA representatives, there will be a calibration portion where you can remove the reticule so you can aim using your eyes.

And with this announcement, real light gun type aiming becomes a reality. I expect more light gun games ported third parties, you're on notice!

They even explicitly state 4-player co-op! YES!!!

Quote

The final version of the game promises four player cooperation, each having their own Wii Remote blaster.

Also, it sounds like the nunchuck has minimal involvement, the analog stick just being used to toggle stuff, so then this might actually be useful!

I wonder how well the crosshairless gameplay will work, since the zapper doesn't look like it has sights, does it?

Also:
Quote

The game doesn't look quite as sharp or move as smoothly as its arcade counterpart, but it's a damn close representation.

What?

Edited to reduce redundancy with Kairon's post.

Like Ninja Mode?

Or Paradise Mode (with bikinis, water guns, swan jetskis, and bananas that you stuff down people's throats)?

Well, I haven't been keeping up with this, but either I or my family will be buying this.  We've always liked to play light gun stuff together, so it and UC are on the top of my list for them.  My dad will like this better, I think, I'm not sure if he's into fantasy violence with zombies and stuff, though he did like Area 51.

No one else has this? Thank you, gamefly.

It's the type of game that I might buy at their keep it price just because I can drop this game in front of anyone and they would love it for Paradise mode alone. It's too hilarious not to laugh at.

I picked this up last week. It's AWESOME. Classic light gun fun. Even better with the Wii Zapper.

You can play once through arcade mode, once through ninja mode, and once through paradise mode in under 2 hours. You will want to return to increase your character's "level" and unlock new guns and to explore other paths through levels though.

Oh, and "party mode" is the 4-player co-op mode through the game, which doesn't record your scores for unlocking/ranking purposes, but has access to ninja mode and paradise mode.

The paradise mode has you shooting bikini-clad women with a dolphin squirt gun.

I bought the game for $14 via gamefly since I know that I could entertain any group of male friends with this, especially since you can play it four player.

Awesome! I made my brother buy me a Wii Zapper and give it to me today...so I finally got to play Ghost Squad. It kicks a lot of ass. I play without the aiming reticule - the calibration settings are that good. It's like playing a real light gun game. Midway needs to release T2 Arcade on the Virtual Console, with full Wii Zapper support.

I would get this if the Wii Zapper weren't sold out absolutely everywhere.

This is really weird.. I've never seen anything like it. I had no problem getting a Wii on launch day. Had no problem getting Pokemon, Zelda, Mario Sunshine and Galaxy, you name it. I walked into the store and bought them. But somehow.. the Zapper is sold out at every single store in my vicinity.

This is getting STUPID.  I've yet to see a gun shell that includes *all* these specs I require:

1.  Generous spacing between pistol grips (not cramped like the Zapper).
2.  "V-notch" sight groove at the back end.
3.  "A-notch" at the front end (to work in conjunction with the V-notch).
4.  Adequate trigger extension for B-trigger.
5.  Adequate clearance for Nunchuck Z-button.
6.  Convenient housing for Nunchuck cord.

The Wii Zapper fails on multiple levels already, unable to provide the light-gun conditions I'd like to test out with Ghost Squad with the on-screen reticule disabled.

These are the three closest ones I've seen, and they still fail.

What's so special about the Nyko perfect shot? Because I've got a zappel shell almost exactly like it in functionality and design, a shell made by either Pega or Penguin United. Is the perfect shot just publicized well or what, because the one I have that's like it isn't anything special...

I got one of these along with Ghost Squad and Umbrella Chronicles today for Christmas.  The two-handed configuration works pretty well for Ghost Squad with the nunchaku control scheme (the trigger is on the rear grip where it belongs), but the front grip is big, square-ish, and uncomfortable.  The trigger pull is also way longer than it needs to be, and pretty heavy.  It made my hand hurt trying to play UC with it in the pistol configuration.

The perfect shot looks like it at least has a more comfortable grip, and a better rear sight.

PS Ghost Squad is lotsa fun.
