Title: Nintendo Trading Cards Available
Post by: StrikerObi on April 30, 2007, 01:21:28 PM
Trading cards featuring Nintendogs and Zelda characters, for those of you who need to own it all.

You may not have known it, but trading cards do still exist outside of major athletics. A company named Enterplay has recently been releasing trading cards featuring Nintendo characters. Card sets for Nintendogs are already available, and the company is working on sets for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and "Mario & Friends". The Nintendogs set contains 20 cards, while the Zelda set will have 86 cards when it is release in July.  Mario's set is due in August. The cards feature characters and items from the games, and also include game tips.

The card packs also include bonus items. The Nintendogs set includes a sweepstakes ticket which could net you a DS Lite or Nintendogs shirt. Both sets included bonus tattoos, and the Zelda set additionally features a 9-card foil set.

According to their website, the trading cards are available in major retail stores worldwide. They do not seem to offer cards based on anything other than Nintendo franchises.

Thanks to UncleBob for the tip!

A chance to win a DS Lite? I may pick up a pack or two.

Is it odd that my first thought about this article was, "Why isn't Nintendo doing this itself?"  Think they'd keep a card factory around, lol.  But back to the topic, Twilight Princess cards actually interest me, I'll have to see how they turn out.

Thanks to UncleBob for the tip!

All I had to read was the headline to know who tipped us off to this story.

But is there e-Reader data on them?  :P

Unfortunatly, no e-Reader data.  It'd be awesome if this new company was to release the Game and Watch e-Reader cards though... heh.

Anywhoo, I have a feeling that this company has very close ties to Nintendo.  The first set of Nintendogs trading cards were released by Nintendo. while the second series was released by Enterplay.  According to the e-mail I received from Enterplay, the same people who worked on the first set also created the second set.  Additionally, this company (seems to, at least) only makes Nintendo liscened trading cards.  And they're located in Redmond, almost next door to NoA.

For the record Nintendo still makes those poem cards in Japan.  It was mentioned in the articles about the museum.  I'm still waiting for collectible VC point cards.  I was sure Nintendo would get up with that.  Especially since collecting things like that is bigger in Japan then here.  Still I want a Mario VC point card.  Maybe even a Quantum Fighter one...

For anyone who cares - the Zelda cards are out and they're pretty darn cool.

I found mine at a Target Store (US).  They wern't even actually out for sale yet, they had some boxes stacked up near the trading cards with top one open.  Among the various cards in the box was a box of the Zelda cards.  I grabbed it, asked an employee near buy if I could buy it and was on my way.

I've written up a bit of an article about them.  I'd love to have it edited by the NWR staff and hosted here on the site - if NWR would be interested.
