Title: Hi, I'm SB, and I'm a Bust-a-Move wh*re...
Post by: Smash_Brother on April 19, 2007, 08:50:53 AM
I am. I know it. At least I can admit I have a problem.
But seriously, the lengths I've gone through to get my mitts on a good multiplayer iteration of this game include asking a friend to send me a copy from CALIFORNIA since they didn't release it here in NH and then IMPORTING A COPY from Japan, only to discover that the multiplayer was just a time race to see who could finish their puzzle first. Bleck.
So yes, I just called and had them hold a copy of BaM Bash (Wii version) for me at Gamestop. Why? Refer to the title of this thread.
Though, to my credit, this will be the first 8 player game for the Wii so I can at least try to pass THAT off as my reason for buying it, right?

Didn't think so...

Congrats to you if you can get eight people to play.

Yes, I accept the possibility that FINDING them might be the hard part.

TMI dude! T M I...
As for the 8 player, you have half the players. If I was there, it would've been 5...
Why don't you kidnap the other missing players?

Oh, and impressions coming soon, of course.

How do you play with 8 players? GC controllers? Split up the 'Mote and 'Chuck? (though, would the analog aimers be at a disadvantage to the "point" aimers?)

I'm not 100%, but I believe you spilt the mote and chuck and I don't believe you're pointing to aim but probably using the D-pad.
I've played it both ways and the D-pad would work fine too.

Impressions:
The multiplayer is hectic and crazy, there's KIND of a strategy to it, but I don't think you'll have any luck getting players to sit down and REALLY learn it. It has that in common with Custom-Robo.

Uh oh. Do I smell limited multiplayer life?

Didn't Warioware SM have 12 player multiplayer? Wouldn't that mean that Warioware SM has 8 player mp and so it is really the first Wii game with 8p mp?

Well, Warioware's multiplayer is alternating, not simultaneous.

I am totally excited about this game for some odd reason. I just want to play a good 4 player puzzle game again...and Bust-A-Move is one of the best.
I am going to rent the game and see if I love it before I buy it though.

The multiplayer is hectic to the point where most people aren't likely to give it the chance it deserves, unfortunately.
Thus, I wouldn't look to it on the merit of multiplayer.

It's published by Majesco. Of course I'm buying it!

Smash Bro: Is it hectic because you are playing with 4+ people or all the time.
If it is less crazy with fewer people I think it would be alright. Personally, my friends don't want to think too much...just have fun, so hectic might be more interesting to them.

It's one of those games where it might be better just to mash the shoot button as fast as possible.
It's a similar concept to previous iterations of the game, except that you're trying to break open jewel bubbles and whichever player gets the most of those at the end is the winner. Jewel bubbles can be destroyed by bursting adjacent bubbles, but they also come out in these little UFOs which you can shoot with a bubble to collect.
I'd rent before buying. I still need to give the puzzle mode a go but aiming mode didn't seem all that interesting.
To its credit, the single player has at least 250 levels in the puzzle mode.

Ahh Majesco I pass it everyday on the way to school and I knew a few game testers who worked there. I think say what ever you think about game testers but they are one of the best types of people to talk about games in general even the female game testers are pretty knowledgeable about games so it was a nice experience for me to talk to them and boy do they enforce NDA very strongly.

I'll get it eventually, it's a Taito game, destiny. But it's launching at $85 US here, so I think I'll wait 'til it hits bargain bins. Also it loses the 'Bash' bit. Now it's family friendly for sure!
Tsk tsk

I find I'm enjoying it enough that I don't regret the $40 purchase.
Because of the Wiimote control (with which you slowly pan the pointer left and right), you can play the game with a miniscule amount of movement required and still aim very accurately.
And I kind of just...zone, while I play it, very zen-like.
