Title: Whoa--How did I miss this?? (Crash Bandicoot is Nintendo Exclusive)
Post by: Pittbboi on April 18, 2007, 08:19:38 AM
Saw this at GoNintendo: I should start parsing these thing...heh heh Well, color me interested. How this guy went from being a Sony Mascot to a Big N exclusive is beyond me, but I'll be looking out for this game. Crash's last few adventures left plenty to be desired, but part of me will never forget how much fun I had with the first PS1 games.
And, from the few screenshots in the magazine scan, the game actually looks pretty good with huge environments. Though I will say Crash's new look is a little...Nickelodeon

I hate Crash's new look. In fact, I never cared much for the character.
But this is STILL the biggest irony in history. Crash went from standing in front of Nintendo bashing them like crazy to having his games being Nintendo exclusive.
I love how life sometimes works out!
In all seriousness, I don't care for the series, but the more games the Wii has the better.

I still remember the commercial where he was outside Nintendo HQ with a megaphone mocking Mario.
They need to make another one with Mario coming out and the two of them shaking hands and Crash says, "I'll take you out to to the Olive Garden sometime to make it up to you."

If only Crash knew he was about 2 years away from being sold to Vicarious Visions and whored out on the corner...

Hence why I said "IRONY" in my first post.

Little did Smash know but Olive Garden closes whenever Mario nears. The Neverending Bowl of Pasta has brought down many franchisees in Mario wake.

Haha! New look! Cool!
Awesome that this so far looks exclusivo to Nintendo platforms. I actually owned the first two Smash Bandicoot games, and they were pretty decent. Even my die-hard N64 era Nintendo fanboi could see that.
Hopefully, this one turns out to be Nintendo's third-party action-platformer answer to PS3 titles like Rachet & Clank.

Poor Crash, the first three games were amazing, and then it just went all to hell. I can't say I'm digging the new look too much either, unless this is some sort of Crash prequel or something (he does look "younger"). It's probably just some sort of ploy to make him look more "extreme" or something, though.

They should recreate the end of this comic (profanity warning) with Crash acting apologetic and really creeping Mario out.

This is pretty funny though ever since Crash was sold and went multiplatform he ceased being anything even resembling a major player. So it doesn't have the same punch to it. Going from Sony to multiplatform to Nintendo really isn't all that exciting compared to if he had gone from Sony directly to Nintendo. It's still good irony though.
That's the problem when these sort of things happen. By the time they do the franchise in question has dropped so much in credibility that it lacks the impact it would have. Sonic appearing on a Nintendo platform was a big deal but not as much as it would have been in the mid 90s. If Mario ever went to Sony or MS it would be the result of a huge fall for Nintendo which would weaken Mario's star power and thus make it only seem like a big deal for old timers like ourselves.

You have to love a hobby where you can be part of the new generation and an oldtimer.

After the loading times of his first PS2 game, I haven't played a Crash game since.

Incidentally, that reminds me of a good article by the late Stephen J. Gould, about how and why Mickey Mouse has gotten younger-looking over the years.

Never really got into Crash Bandicoot, being the N64 lad that I was. However when I did play the game I feel it very linear and ho-hum. I wouldn't exactly say this is fantastic news but it's better than the series going back to PS exclusivity.

Lesson to learn: Don't try to make a mascot out of a property you don't own.

Mudslinging seemed to work against Nintendo. Or did it? For Sega, yes, but come to think of it, PSX and N64 were supposedly pretty close together in the early running, by the time PSX pulled ahead, these commercials were long-gone.
Sony kept Naughty Dog, which was the most important part of the Crash formula. Still, this was always a bad mistake. It's a good thing Sony spent the better part of the PS2 generation whipping up exclusive franchises, or I wouldn't have any faith in it at all anymore.

Ehhe, not too excited, I personally didn't like any of the Crash Bandicoot games and found them to be pretty shallow. THen again it appears to be an exclusive so I guess that is a good thing.

Hey, at the least the 360 screens look just a weak.
Check out the screen comparisons. Appears to be the same amount of polywogs on each platform:

To my eyes the PS2 version doesn't look that different from the other two. PS2 Holding yet another generation of Consoles back.

Well, there's one thing you can say for this game... it's got class. The trailer does a good job of making me thing that this should be an animated movie with all the decent voice acting, funny side characters, and general accessible not-taking-itself-seriously vibing,

Lol yeah I agree the trailer really does a good job showcasing the sillyness of the characters.
I've never really got into the Crash games and the only thing I really remember from them was the following classic commercial:
Which was really dumb from any Nintendo fan's point of view because Mario 64 was just about to be released. Still I will always remember that commercial.

I actually have good memories of Crash Bandicoot ... I think it was 2 that I had? Anyways, it was obviously not Mario 64, but it was a pretty decent action game. Of course, the developers of the franchise now are COMPLETELY different than back in those days (Naughty Dog can now be found on the PS3 with their upcoming game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune), but that makes this game even more intrigueing since these new developers may not turn out a soulless, multiplatform, lowest-common-denominator cash-in like so many expect them to.

Yeah I remember Crash changing hands a number of times (Developer wise). I really never got into Crash because I was dead set against buying any console that Sony made for a very long time. (I was not a happy fanboy when Sony dethroned Nintendo lol).

Never cared much for the CB series, it wasn't a bad series just one I never got into. At the time I think I was spoiled by SM64.

Yeah...I remember how hyped I was for SM64. I had bought every magazine possible that had M64 in it, I would think about it all the time, it was one of the few games that lived up to the months and months of hype that built up in me for the game.
Fun fact: my first non Nintendo system was a Dreamcast =D

Fun fact....it was mine too! (Well I got the master system for free, but Dreamcast was the first non-Nintendo system I bought).

=D Nice!
I'll never forget how it came up. A trailer for Sonic Adventures was playing at a mall shop called "Planet Comics" and my dad looked at it and went "Wow, that looks awesome". I explained that it was the new Sega system Dreamcast and stuff and he's like "Thats pretty cool, you should get it!" and at the time I didn't have much cash on me so he put down the money for me and I just payed him back when the system actually came out.
It was weird because I never saw my dad get excited over a video game system before lol.
DC remains one of my favorite consoles of all time and I still have like...20 or so games for the system. Gotta love DC!

Sonic Adventure had alot of magic as well when I played it, still to this day, it is one of my favorite games. Dreamcast is easily one of my favorite systems as well, I think it was Sega's best generation. There were so many amazing titles for the system, and it is really heartbreaking that it would be Sega's last. Not to mention it after Dreamcast Sega went downhill fast.

Yeah...I LOVED Sonic Adventure. Call me corny but I actually really liked the whole Chaos story and when Sonic went Super Sonic against Chaos in the final battle? Pure awesomeness. "Open your heart!!!" gotta love the music too haha again call me corny but I loved it.
Dreamcast had a vibe of just being a pure gamer machine. Even DC Magazine was a really unique publication and was the only magazine other than Nintendo Power (which I had until the end of the SNES era) to which I subscribed to.
I too was heartbroken when it died, so any great games for a short system life. It truly was Segas greatest system.
