Title: When can we expect news from today's "Capcom Day"?
Post by: Rhoq on April 12, 2007, 10:06:24 AM
The title really says it all. I was just curious to know what's going on. Haven't heard anything about today's Capcom event. Did it take place already?

Come on Dead Rising! Come on RE4-style-game-play-in-the-Wesker-section-of-Umbrella-Chronicles!

Expect news next month after crappy magazine exclusives and embargos.

The news probably already came out. In other words, no Nintendo related stuff. If I'm correct, this event is held in Japan, so the news should actually come 12 hours earlier.

Matt C said he would have news Friday/tomorrow.  Maybe there's some sort of embargo until then.  Which doesn't make sense, I know, but he did say Friday.

Destructoid mentioned an embargo until tomorrow.

Well we've got Treasure Hunter Z, and there supposedly was a new Wii game revealed, so that could be a new IP as well... (Wait, no, it's Capcom... =3)

Mega Man mega-collection XIV probably.

Capcom is making about 50% sequels, 50% new IPs. Most of their new stuff is pretty much a crapshoot to see what sticks but some of it does make for a nice game.

Let's not forget the rumor floating around that they canned the GCN project (? Phoenix...either Dead Phoenix or something of that nature)...and are supposedly re-working the game for a next gen Kid Icarus.  I think I heard this rumor off of a podcast...it might've been IGN.

Oh, it's on Friday. 5 PM PST is not here yet so I guess it's possible we might see something new... maybe.

Three games that will never happen:

1. Duke Nukem Forever
2. Dead Phoenix / Kid Icarus based on Dead Phoenix
3. Raven Blade

Duke Nukem Forever is aptly named.

I think the new IP will be "Help Baby Kitty Cook".

No, no, no...

Don't get disappointed NOW! If you get disappointed NOW, you run the risk of being excited later when they actually make the announcement.

You're just setting yourself up for excitement.

The first and third titles on your list have nothing to do with Capcom.

The only true surprise was the announcement of Phoenix Wright 3 for the DS.

Well this certainly makes no sense whatsoever.  There were supposed to be new IPs there.  Or perhaps that information is still under embargo?

Treasure Island looks like the money though.

I'm now set on getting Umbrella Chronicles, and I'm glad that Treasure Island Z is as awesome as I thought it'd be... =D

Their impressions were laughable, weren't they?  At one point the dope says "Once we got beyond the graphics..".  I nearly regurgitated my dinner.  Matt C said the look of Treasure Z was incredible, and this idiot thinks he needs to get "past them".

The game actually reminded me a little bit of the Snes classic The Lost Vikings.  I guess those graphics were Kid E as well.

You know, I trashed the look of Treasure Island Z when I first saw it, but after watching the video I have to say that I can appreciate its art style. Sure, it may be "ki**ie" looking, but what seperates it from the pack of other quick cash-grab ki**ie games is the fact that there seems to be a lot of thought in the presentation of the game. Capcom didn't just throw a coating of primary colors on a crappy game. The style in this game is legitimate, and it looks really good...hell, some scenes were almost Wind Waker-ish good. But the naked bald kid is still creeping me out...a lot.

Though, one thing I do worry about is the actual gameplay. From what I've seen the game looks like it's walking a fine line between puzzle/platform game that's truly fun for all ages, and elementary school PC games, where the gameplay is mostly point and click and largely involves actions that don't really connect you with a sense of adventure like "Here's a tree, use the wiimote to saw it down!" and  "There's a lever! Pull it with the wiimote!" or "there's a bad guy! Shake your bell at it by shaking the wiimote!" Still, if Capcom can make it all a fluid I think the gameplay will actually be fun.

Still, I actually believe this could turn out to be a good game. I'm keeping my eye on it.
