Title: 5 reasons why Dead Rising should be on the Wii
Post by: Viewtiful mario on April 05, 2007, 05:27:35 PM
1. Playing as a Mii for more then just sports.
Except for Wii sports, not many games let you use the Mii’s to actually play as yourself, everything else you really didn’t have full control of the character throughout the entire game. Dead Rising Lets you dress up the main Character in many ways, and it even let’s you cross dress and where funny hats. With Mii’s you can change there body shape any how there head looks, but not what they wear, see where I’m going at here? Being able to Make a Mii look like whoever you want, along with being able to dress them however you want could basely mean you can play as anyone in existence along with there wardrobe. This way you’d actually be playing as a Mii for more then short bursts at a time.
2. That’s not all Mii’s can be used for.
Eventually, people are going to have dozens of Mii’s roaming around there Mii plaza. So what will they be doing with themselves instead of wandering around the plaza for the rest of there pointless lives? Why not give them a job as a Zombie? Think of how awesome it would be to be going around a Zombie infested Mall and find that Chuck Norris Mii you’ve forgotten you made coming towards you, Zombified. Now picture the same scenario with a Hitler Mii, a Jack Thompson Mii, or even a Mii of your friend. In fact why stop with Zombies? Why not choose which one of your Mii’s will be the main villains and even which will be your partners throughout the story. It would make the adventure all the more personal and give your Mii’s some more use (But I think it would be a good idea if you can make it so certain Mii‘s won‘t get Zombified, like a girlfriend or your parents).
3. Wii Controls, if done right, could make the game awesome.
Have anyone you Played a game called Godfather: Blackhand edition? Well I have and it’s thought me that it is possible to make Wii controls that work. All of the executions can detect your movement so well that if it doesn’t respond, 9 times out of 10 its your own fault, and the whole control scheme really made it a blast to play. Now, Back to Dead Rising: Frank (the main character) has a lot of moves in his arsenal to help him get through the Zombie hordes because what fun is killing a Zombie if there aren’t a ton of ways to do it? If done right doing Kung Fu moves to rip out Zombie organs could be 10x more fun then on a standard controller. Combine that with being able to swing weapons and shoot firearms (which was real clumsy in Dead Rising) and you got yourself a smashing good time to be had.
4. Frank Takes Pictures!
Wii’s got channels, more then you probably use too often. Well remember that photo channel it has (yes it‘s got a photo channel) that you’ve never used? Well Dead Rising may be able to put it to use. Isn’t one of the most memorable thing about Dead Rising is being able to take a picture of a horde of Zombies and have the word “horror” appear a couple hundred times with an occasional “erotica” due to Zombie cleavage? Well imagine taking that a step further and be able to send them to the photo channel and being able to either add sunglasses to those Zombies or send them to a friend? NiGHTS: Journy Into Dreams will use the wether channle so whats to say games can’t use it’s other channels? It’d be awesome to send a pic of the chainsaw wielding clown right before he kills you to a friend and have a message saying “dude! Look as this guy? Is he scary or what?” And since all you’d be doing is sending pictures, you can send them to anyone on your Wii friend list without any extra codes (like what Elebits did with the map editor).
5. Yes the Wii would be most likely to handle it.
If by now your thinking “No way the Gamecube 1.5 could handle the Ub3r 1337n355 of Dead Rising. It can‘t handle that many enemies at once!” well I’m here to tell you it may be more possible then you think. Lets go back to idea #1 and say that all the Zombies would be Mii-esq. characters, (which wouldn‘t clash to much with the main character him/herself being a Mii) which, if you think about it, wouldn’t be too bad as long as you can tell they’re Zombies (not to mention that it would be one easy headshot), The Wii would definitely be able to handle quite a bunch of those things at once. The Mii plaza can look at 100 Mii’s at once, then take into account that there always won’t be that many at once on screen. Mii’s are probably made up of very few pixels so there can be a whole bunch at once without pushing the system too hard. Also take into consideration games like Spartan: Total Warrior for the Gamecube which had lots of enemies on screen:
The Wii is more powerful then the gamecube and it’s most likely Mii’s take up a lot less memory then those solder models. There may have to some sacrifices like taking out monster scenes like this
but I’m sure if you make the Zombies Mii’s you can have any many of them at time as, oh, this:
All in all, maybe it wouldn’t be the 360 Dead Rising but if Capcom was to bring the series over to the Wii there are many reasons why it would rock.

Funny, one of the first set of Miis I created was the cast of Dead Rising (Frank, Jessie, Carlito and his sister). :p

Yeah, DR would be pretty cool on the Wii, but I can't fathom swinging the mote every time I want to swing a weapon.

1 Reason Dead Rising Can Stay on Xbox 360 for All I Care (not counting the fact that I have a 360)
1. I don't feel like paying $50 to get bored after roughly 45 minutes.

This thread makes me wish I could afford a 360 to play the shrink wrapped copy of Dead Rising I have sitting around (the secret is to put the shrink wrap in the disc tray instead of the disc!) I honestly don't think it's worth Capcom's time, they're very busy you know, porting over the PS2's Resident Evil 4 to Wii and all! And downgrades this drastic haven't worked so far, Just Cause looked like a block of urine on PS2!

DR is a good game, but RE4 is better. Naff' said.

Then again PS2 is inferior to Wii, I'm still interested to see IF Capcom can get Dead Rising on Wii without having huge changes. I don't understand why they can't downgrade the visuals a bit, maybe the AI (though I was not that impressed with it) as well, and make it work on the Wii.

For the record, Sven at the Capcom forums did hint it may be coming.
So I'll add this: Dead Rising will be coming to Wii with a few bonuses. The presentation will be downgraded from the 360 version, but the way they're doing it makes it tough to see the differences.
You shall see.

Using the Wii-Mote to pick up stuff and beat the crap out of zombies really seems like a no-brainer. I believe it will happen - but I don't think the Wii will get a port of the 360 game. Instead, it will either be a side story or a full-blown sequel built from the ground up, specifically for the Wii. I like the idea of using the Miis however, not in their current caricatured form. Instead, I would like to see Mii implementation utilizing the characteristics of the Miis, but in a realistic way to generate "human"-looking characters (as suggested a while back when the concept of "Mii" was first announced).
All of the Miis in your Mii Plaza should be made into the main characters of the game (or as many as possible anyways), meanwhile all of the Miis visiting your Mii Parade should be recreated as the army of the undead you will ultimately have to beat into submission.

You know it makes perfect sense to cash in on an RE4 rerelease. I'm sure there where features in the game that they wanted to implement but didn't have enough umph with the Cube. Now they have it and if they were smart how they did the extras on the PS2 they can just use the Gamecube engine and enable/debug some of the taken out effects. Walla... New release.

I'd probably buy this on the Wii anyway, just because this IS the type of game I'd just pick up on occasion and use it to vent frustrations on hordes of zombies.

Well, the gameplay of DR CAN be pulled on the Wii.
DR is basically a beef up hack and slashed, except it has a decent story to follow, lots of missions and variety.
The ONLY thing that sets the game back is the graphics (and maybe the controls, for the reasons SB mentioned earlier). But even then, the core of the gameplay can be pulled on the Wii.

I remember at one point, I took a mannequin torso and cleared out near 40 zombies to save a girl who was being attacked by them. Obviously, this required some pretty intense button mashing.
I just can't see that happening on the Wii, but the tactile experience of slicing through a horde of zombies with the Wiimote-katana would be...stirring.
Just one reason I'm curious to try the Scarface chainsaw controls.

The easiest way around this is to zoom in the camera angle to show less on screen at once, which would still make it appear chaotic. Or, zoom out further so the zombies can lack graphical detail.
I mean, lets be serious-the A.I. in DR isn't good...and they're zombies so the AI shoudln't be good anyway!

The dumb AI on the Zombies is forgiven, but the AI on the survivors is REALLY bad.
They don't follow you religiously, plus can't defend themselves.
I told SB while playing the game last summer that they should use the AI they used on Ashley in RE 4 for the survivor since Ashley NEVER leaves Leon's side.
If they do make a sequel to DR, they should work on that. They should make it so that you can give the survivors a weapon and defend themselves if the place is too crowded with zombies or they lose Frank.

I think Dead Rising is very possibly on the Wii without doing to these drastic extremes.
I don't like the idea of having my Miis turn up as Zombies and me killing them in horrible ways. I just doesn't seem right...and it also doesn't fit the graphical style of the original Dead Rising.
I do think that a cartoon action game needs to be created using Miis as a centerpiece to the game. A game centered around lighthearted action could be a blast with Miis.

But Here is what I will say, about Dead Rising on Wii.
5 Reasons why Dead Rising Should Be on the Wii.
1) Extremely accurate pointing and Aiming will make shooting Zombies easier, more dynamic, and fun.
2) Special Combat moves that require simple motions. Nobody wants to have to swing for every attack. Though Zelda seemed to manage it ok...Dead Rising would be just too much. However, Why not have special attacks that can be done with items be motion based. It would add a extra special glee to the killing. And won't be used as often because it deteriorates the weapon faster.
3) Completely natural camera control. With the Wii Pointer I have noticed camera issues are almost never an issue. It is so simple and effortless to move the camera into a position I need I never feel like I am fighting the controls. Which is important if I have over 100 Zombies after me at a time.
4) Online for free. Dead Rising is just screaming for an online mode, and hey...the Wiis online service is free. So since this is just a port, why not add cool additional features, like...special online missions. That can be played CO-OP or competitively.
5) Special Nintendo exclusive content. Hey partner with Nintendo and add some interesting costumes to the game.
1) Samus Helmet: Allows you to get statistical data on enemies you face. 2) Luigi Hat: Allows you to jump higher 3) Master Sword: Rare Item. Shoots blasts when you have perfect health. Otherwise a nifty sword that won't break. 4) Olimar's Helmet: Allows you to take control of a small army of Zombies to do your bidding...within a range limit.
I am sure more could be thought up.

heres the deal with the graphics, the biggest problem with doing ports on wii is that it apparently lacks shaders like the new systems(and xbox), however here are a few statements to think about.
Wii is more powerful than GAMECUBE
Xbox had some gorgeous games thanks to two things shaders, and textures
the truth is gamecube could actually process twice as many textures as xbox, but gamecube had less memory than xbox, also due to limited disk space less textures could be stored on one disk
Wii has more memory than gamecube and bigger disks
here are some unofficial specs, but they seem about right
having lower graphics usually doesnt stem from having too little processing power(the truth is systems usually have more processing power than it can output), but a lack of ram
Wii games should have Crazy detailed textures, with bigger disks, and more memory they should look great
low end shading, because the shading is not so great, it would be possible to use its crazy texture power to fake better shading
and they should actually balance out on polygons because while the processing power isnt as much, its always at a lower resolution...which leads to jaggies though, however that can be fixed with anti-aliasing, unfortuanatley thats processor intensive, but smart use of polygons can balance it out.

Quote The answer is Dead Rising and Lost Planet are not slated to appear on Wii or PS3 as far as current plans go. The reasons for this are quite convoluted and I'm bound by NDAs on these matters so I can't divulge why this is the situation.

That's not the one. But that makes it sound like MS has paid for the exclusiveness of DR which unfortunately is always a possibility. Then again, when have Capcom ever gave an exclusive agreement for the life of the console to anyone? It could be a timed exclusive...which would make it technically true that DR is not slated to appear on any other console. Because 1)they can't say even if it is, and 2) perhaps it wasn't scheduled for the Wii at the time.
I still hear things from people who work in the industry and like to report them here. I'm not bound by any NDAs when it comes to rumors on other developers(though I have broke a few about EA). Doesn't mean DR to Wii will definitely happen, but it's worth noting.

This just proves once again that it isn't HD or Textures or Polygon counts that bring about great looking games.
It is still firmly the art direction the artists take and how they use their resources. Some great examples of that are:
Super Paper Mario Yoshi's Island Metroid Prime 1&2 Pikmin 2 Wind Waker Viewtiful Joe
And countless others.
While there are games that graphically are impressive, but they aren't beautiful games.

If one were to read between the lines though, all it really says is that Dead Rising and Lost Planet are XBox 360 exclusive titles and will not be ported to either the Wii or the PS3, however it in no way says anything to indicate that sequels to either game won't see a release on the Wii (or PS3). I'm not worried. The one way for DR Wii to truly work would be if it were built from the ground-up for the console anyways.

Thats fine because to Microsoft getting a DX10 game is better then just being 360 Exclusive. Especially if they can interoperate like they have been saying.
