Title: [Freeloader] Help!
Post by: Ghisy on April 04, 2007, 08:10:21 AM
Hi guys,
I have a US NTSC GC so I got the Action Replay + Freeloader quite a long time ago so I could play Doshin the Giant (Euro/PAL) on my GC. and it works fine. Now I just bought the Euro/PAL version of Donkey Konga 2 and it doesn't work: all I'm getting is a freaking black screen. That happens on both my US GC and my US Wii. Is Donkey Konga 2 PAL protected in some way?? (I also got the Japanese version of DKonga 1 & 2 and they both work fine) It sucks not being able to play it since it has different songs than the US and Japanese releases. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!

I've seen that happen once before with another PAL game. My brother picked up Ace Golf in London and we booted it with the Freeloader and we got a black and white picture. The game may just be incompatible. Stupid region locking screws all us loyal fans who want to experience everything gaming has to offer.

True. After some online research, it seems like it works but only with the 1.04 version of the Freeloader and I have 1.06b. Meh.

Which is stupid because if you have a more recent version you should have the same as the previous older version but with newer stuff.

I know it's stupid! But I've figured out a way to run DKonga 2 PAL using the AR! I needed to try method #3, which is hit Y and select the zone (US/JAP/Euro) on the booting screen. Supposedly, DKonga 1 PAL doesn't work on 1.06b, even using that method. We'll see in a couple of days when I receive it.

Alright so I received DKonga 1 PAL and it also works on the AR with method #3!!! I read online it didn't so that's a good surprise!

I'd really like to get the japanese versions of Donkey Konga 1 and 2. I have 3, and the J-Pop soundtrack rocks. All I have to do is mod my Cube so that I can save my game.
Glad to hear theat you got it working, it's definitely worth going through all of the different methods though to get the game working optimally.

Do you really need to mod your GC to save Japanese games? I thought you just needed a separate memory card that you format when a Japanese game asks you to. I wouldn't know though because my GC has a US/JPN switch on the back.

lol, you got a black and white picture because of your TV, not the game or GC...
in other words, either your TV doesn't support PAL, or just supports a specific version of it (probably it's the first one)

I don't get why AR/FL work so inconsistently. I have never been able to get either my 1.06 AR (first edition) or 1.06b FL (last pre-Wii edition) to boot Euro games. I also can't get the AR to boot homebrew on the Wii while some people can't. Some can't even get FL to boot Japanese games, while I can. Mods fixed all those problems.
As for Japanese games, you do not need a Japanese formatted card except for an isolated few cases, such as Mr. Driller Drill Land (you'd also have to actually switch your GC into Japanese mode). The text in many games will be screwed up since it will be reading the wrong font information, but they will work and save otherwise.

is modding ur GCN hard? I have almost no experience in taking things apart and modifying them. However I would be willing to try it, I want to unlock those NES tunes in DKonga 3 and save scores and such.

WuTangTurtle, I couldn't say, mine was pre-modded when I bought it. It's only a US/JP switch on the back though, no extra chip is in there for "back-up" and such. (not needed)
