Title: Why didn't anyone tell me Beyond Good and Evil was so good?
Post by: wandering on April 03, 2007, 07:29:46 PM
...Well, I guess people did tell me. Why didn't I listen?
I blame everyone who is about to post in this thread to say they didn't see what was so special about the game.

The driving sequences don't suck and the Rhinos are Jamaican!

I ignored the praise about this game for years. I even bought the PS2 version and then gave it away without playing it. Then I bought the Xbox version a few months ago, played it for a bit, stopped. Will I ever continue it? Well, my Xbox is packed up, so mystery! I probably should plug it back in. I still have to finish Breakdown as well. :]

The Sheild isn't on at 10PM tonight on FX! There's no station called FX! Only sound effects!

There's no new avatar theme announced so I'm taking my time until I find an inspiration.

Dunno. I'm only two missions in. I've mentioned having this game before and in fact have had it for several months just sitting there, staring me in the face.
So far, it's decent, but nothing out of the extraordinary. It feels like a more adventuresome Rachet and Clank in the 2 hours I've put into it so far, or a more adventuresome Sphinx or whatnot.
And the game's juxtaposition of the almost mature, serious Jade with the child-pleasing anthropomorpic goat children, pig-mechanic-non-sexually-threatening-sidekick, and etc. is so far not rubbing me the right way... so far.
IGN described this game once as "Zelda for grown-ups." So far, I'd have to say that while the game is holding up admirably, that description is not.

I think I was on the third mission or so when I quit, the stealth got too annoying.

I stopped playing after the first mission I think. With our combined power we've beaten four missions, game is over, won!

Carlson and Peeters!
Seriously guys, this game is awesome.
You just...don't know anything.
So there.
Nyah.

It's one of the tightest game experiences out there. The very definition of short and sweet.

??? That's exactly how I'd describe GUN!!!
Maybe I should finish BG & E then...

I was actually underwhelmed with Gun. It wasn't so much short and sweet as 6oz of beer in a 12oz can.
BG&E was like a fine glass of wine, served with a good steak. It was over too soon, but I did not regret the experience.

Hitman 47 and Sam Fisher laugh at you!

No, I laugh at them for being in a genre I totally hate. I haven't tried their games but I have tried Thief, NOLF and Deus Ex as well as several games that were defiled by stealth sequences ('sup, Metroid Zero Mission?).

The beauty of Deus Ex was that it didn't have to be a stealth game if you didn't want it to be.
