Title: Nintendo's regional differences
Post by: Edisim on March 16, 2003, 05:23:53 PM
Hey,

It's interesting how nintendo changes products and games from region to region. The USA version of the E-reader has a passthru/linkport while the Japanese version doesn't. Metroid Prime (European version) will be decidedly more difficult than the US and Japanese versions. The Q was released only in Japan/Asia. I know Nintendo has released and not released things in certain regions in the past (Japan-only 64dd, Super Gameboy 2(?)--had a linkport), but have they ever changed the software as to give a different (even if only slightly different) gameplaying experience? Personally, I think it's great that they would continue to work on a game even after it's been released (at least in one part of the world). I know companies tend to use the first market release to gauge interest or sales of a game, but I've never heard of a game being tweaked like Metroid Prime. I think some Dreamcast games that were ported to the newer systems might have had some improvements, but more in the technical area than in gameplay. Oh, Resident Evil on GCN had great technical improvements as well, but only a few minor tweaks. And, obviously, these were games that changed systems years after their initial release.

I hope Nintendo continues this trend. Or do some of you feel cheated that we didn't get the better Prime?

No it doesn't.

Although I guess it should be mentioned that there were several versions of OoT, and you and I might have gotten different versions.

As for other differences:

Majora's Mask:  quicksave feature added to game in North America (Japan didn't get this).

Wind Waker:  Similar tweaks, but I am spoiler free.

But yes, Nintendo does go the extra mile quite often.

Really? Thats a pretty big change, i personally would have hated Majoras Mask if it didnt have the quick save feature, thats wierd...

And Strange, i think he was talking about the graphic upgrades from American to PAL Resident Evil.

on my gold version of ocarina i can walk on water throw my fishing pole and walk out with my hands cupped with no fishing pole.....i found a way to pull otu the fishing pople outside...but the game crashes completely. This is nto in my cousins grey verison...they fixed the glitch. Also in my verison ganondorfs blood is red. In my cousins its green. When your fighting the gerado women if you change the color of your tunic their color changes too in mine....not the master quest version. In gold theres an islamic chant that iv heard isnt found in the other versions.

i read a review of super mario sunshine from the USA before it came out in OZ. they mentioned that they were dissapointed by the frame rate and that when you fought bowser, the frame rate, "took a turn for the worst". when it came out here i picked it up and i observed a perfectly healthy framerate throughout the game and it certainly didnt drop in the final battle.
