Title: Pet crisis - Potentially fatal pet food recall
Post by: capamerica on March 21, 2007, 06:05:07 AM
If you haven't heard there has been a masive recall on alot of Cat and Dog food this week.

Menu Foods Inc., based in Ontario, Canada, recalled soft food cans and pouches of cat and dog food distributed under more than 85 brands, including Iams and Eukanuba.

Company tests found the food killed one in six animals who consumed the products, Food and Drug Administration officials announced Tuesday.

Contaminated wheat gluten is a possible cause, the FDAhas said. It is used for protein in pet food products such as gravy.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR:

According to the Food and Drug Administration, signs an animal may be suffering from kidney failure include:

- Lethargy
- Loss of appetite
- Vomiting
- increased urine production

The food may be more lethal to cats than dogs, the FDAhas said.

More than 45 brands of dog food and 40 brands of cat food, including Iams, Eukanuba and private-label store brands, were among those recalled.

Menu Foods makes pet food for 17 of the top 20 North American retailers. The brand names of recalled food are listed below.

A complete list of potentially fatal food is online at menufoods.com/recall.

That's not a bug, it's a feature! It means you have a slightly higher chance of crossing a green area in a city without stepping in dog poo.

To be fair, they DID apologize for Brian Adams on several occasions. Now Celine Dion, on the other hand...

But seriously, this sucks. If I lost a cat to this, f*ck class-action suits. I'd be out for vengeance.

Wow...

Its a good thing that we don't buy pet food for my dogs often. I already told dad about this and to watch out for the type of food he buys.

Thanks for the info, Cap!

He's not being cold, he's considerate of the other people that use the public parks or public sidewalks, if people don't pick up their poo why should we care about the dogs, at least cats can dig and cover their own poo.

In fear of taking what could be a cynical, cold hearted joke and turn it into a serious discussion, I will say this; saying that food that can potentially kill animals is a GOOD thing is pretty heartless.

Yes, they poo on public places and yes, we step on them nearly all the time. Still, that doesn't mean that dogs should be killed.

I honestly HATE with a passion how some people downplay an animal's life simply because they are not like us. Simply because they don't talk that doesn't mean that they don't suffer like we do.

Good for you that you hate on something, welcome to the club.

When I read his post, I thought of it like the pet owners were at fault rather than the animals themselves.

I wasn't serious and I'm (pretty) sure KDR wasn't either.

I'm trying my hardest to make comments about Germany right now...

I honestly thought you were, since you are a big cat owner and melt whenever you play with something cute.

Also, I can't help but feel indifferent about the joke since I've seen animals being killed in my eyes or have seen them suffering before they die.

Its hard to take a joke like that when you've seen stuff like that.

So, what about ant poison? That's genocide!
