the DKC hate going on in the Wii forum or the fact that people are paying for vc games

The VC has turned the forums into a Delorean, permanently sending posters back in time to the 90s.

ah well, that's true.  I'm only buying VC versions if I don't have the game or if the cart battery is dead.

DMC went bancrupt in the early 80s so that analogy doesn't work to well.  I actually do have a cart copy of DKC, my sister likes it, but we dont have a working SNES right now so VC is all we have.

DMC was the company that made De lorean, what the $&$%& are you on!

>>The De Lorean Motor Company went bankrupt in late 1982 following John De Lorean's arrest in October of that year. He was later found not guilty, but it was too late for the DMC-12. <<

I loved DKC so much on the SNES when it first came out that I showed my loyalty to the series by completely ignoring all subsequent games.  =D

It was fun for a while, but the game was not really that special beyond the graphics which were something special at the time.

It was fun for a while, but Sonic was not really that special beyond the speed gimmick which were something special at the time.

Indeed, it's a pretty decent game though and at least for 2d games a name that can be relied upon to not suck. The speed is pretty gimmicky though because you just can't see anything before you hit it so you either have to know the level by heart or just hope there are no dangerous obstacles in your way. Of course many areas were just effectively cutscenes, enter the right tube and watch Sonic bounce around for a minute.

<16-bit game> was not so great because of <gimmick>

see, I don't know if ya'll are making fun of me, or just be vaguely sarcastic, or just agreeing with me.

I was being serious, DKC was good in the beginning, but it's not a game I will worry with now.  Aside from the neat graphics which were neat at they time, the game is nothing more than a competent platformer.

My question to you then is, by your criteria, which platformers are above "competent"?

Super Mario World, Super Mario 3, Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country 2, Yoshi's Island, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night... all are examples of games that I would say surpass DKC. However, the game is very much at the higher end of the spectrum, as I would even go as far as to say it surpasses all of the Sonic and Mega Man titles.

Super Metroid.
Metroid Zero Mission.
Super Mario Bros 2.
Super Mario Bros 3.
Mega Man 2.
Mega Man 3.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin.

There are more, but I'm not going to name everyone of them.  Donkey Kong Country was a good game when it came out 12 years ago (13 this November) but for me the game doesn't have anything special about it anymore.  When it came out in 1994 the graphics were revolutionary, but now they are just kind of pretty in a "put on your rose colored glasses" kind of way.  To me they just don't hold up very well over the time since it first came out.

I am not disputing that, yiou missed the point.

A modified DeLorean DMC-12 was also the car that Marty McFly used to travel through time in "Back to the Future", which is (I'm assuming) what MJRx was referring to. You missed the joke completely.
