Title: Major EA/Wii news leaked by a website?
Post by: NWR_pap64 on March 10, 2007, 11:41:05 AM
I was at Go Nintendo when they mentioned that a website had broken their NDA about a major game coming to the Wii.

They wouldn't mention the website, and can't say what that game is since they too signed the NDA.

Did anyone catch this by accident? What was the story about?

I didn't see it mentioned on their site. Do you have a link?
And does it have anything to do with the Spielberg trio of games headed towards Wii?

edit: I skimmed that paragraph and only saw mention of Battalion Wars, so I skipped the rest. My bad.

Its on the front page currently:

Second, a certain site has broken their NDA and talked about a bit of EA news. This is being lumped in with a bit of news concerning a mic for the Wii. We already knew that a microphone was heading to the Wii via High School Musical (which has one packed in). The second part is a major break of NDA. Everyone that was with me at the EA event signed the NDA as well, and we can’t talk about this game. I won’t be posting on it, or discussing it in any way.

Oooh, way to talk about something that you can't talk about. Stupid GoHobo.

That isn't it. Go Nintendo reported it a few days ago. If that was it, then Go Nintendo broke the NDA as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if the newstory was deleted the minute it was leaked and thus we only have the rumors but no actual info.

Actually with some digging I think I found the story, but not sure if I should post it here!

It could be something involving the just announced microphone attachment.

apparently GamePro said it was 1up that leaked and it had something to do with the sun.
not sure what they are talking about though.

Well, we didn't sign any NDAs so its not like we are in trouble for mentioning it. However, the NWR crew would probably get crap (you guys signed NDAs, right?).

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with this thread, but I updated the Official Rumor Thread with some EA rumor from last month. It has to do with EA, a new IP, the Wii, a microphone attachment and 1up seems to know all about it.

The original source is an "unknown" to me though.

The rhythm game? Yeah, looks interesting. And possible NDA-worthy currently.

I still wonder why publishers show the press stuff with an NDA. I mean, the only purpose of a journalist is to write about what he sees, knowledge he can't write about isn't useful to him anyway.

Is it something to do with the "sunshine" thing that the guy who visited EA Montreal for SSX hinted at?

Those NDAs almost always come with an expiration date.

The idea is so they can have detailed write-ups available to break the day the company makes their announcement.

Now I don't have much experience with NDAs, but couldn't another reason be for public relations? The company doesn't want to release certain information at this time, but through NDAs they are able to make a connection with the press through insider information, which makes people feel all warm and fuzzy.

Let's assume they are true.

Am I the only one who doesn't care about microphone games?  Seriously.  We all know the tech just isn't there.

I could make do with an online chat sort of thing - that would be ok.  But this is Nintendo, and we know they aren't gonna shell out for that kind of functionality.

Just work with what you have, Nintendo.  Miyamoto went on a big rant in his speech about how you guys went through 4-5 different things in trying to accomplish his vision (e-Reader, connectivity, etc) of having this sort of cohesive family experience, and now you've basically got it.  So instead of adding in MORE peripherals, take what you have and refine it.  I've always supported the "outside" stuff, but I'm getting irritated with you not focusing on what you have already created.

Stop with the ADD peripheral crap.

Didn't you listen to Miyamoto's Speech Strell? TENACITY

The price of innovative gameplay is constant vigilance. Besides, you need a microphone for Wii Karaoke.

No.  Even if the tech were there, I don't really have any interest in talking to my TV.

I'm with Strell and Smoke. Microphone games just sound terrible in my opinion.

The only potential a microphone has is for communicating with other people. Not Wii Karaoke or Harry Potter.

but Karaoke games are fun.... *cuddles copy of Karaoke Revolution*

I agree though. If this big Wii game in development uses the mic for anything other than communicating online color me disappointed. speech recognition technology just isn't at all reliable at this point.

I think a Bluetooth headset makes more sense than a microphone since the Wii, you know, uses Bluetooth already...

I think a third party will eventually come up with one once Mic based games on the Wii become official.

I think if the microphone connects to the Wii controller (a la nun chuck combination) it would be a hassle. They have to come up with an easier solution.

Why are we getting excited about a rumoured EA game?  Who cares?  It'll be bland, uninteresting, and designed for the mass market.

I can't stand voice recognition.  Any time I've used anything like that it never understands a word I say.  Nintendo could make a Zelda game that specifically uses a microphone and I wouldn't buy it because no matter what I wouldn't be able to control it worth a sh!t.  The concept requires more advanced technology then we have available yet.  Until a machine can understand what you say as well as a human being it's just going to be imprecise.  It's an idea that's still years away from being really useful.

I am not exactly crapping my pants over it. I just saw it on Go Nintendo and me being the curious guy that I am decided to find out what was the leaked game about.

As much as I generally dislike EA, at least they're trying, and their support for the Wii means a substantial amount for the success of the console in the US.

I don't see why you couldn't do blutooth headsets...ya you could only connect 3 at once and not 4, but can anyone tell me that you have the need for 4 headsets when your playing online?

I thought thats why we went online to play was we didn't have other people to play with

There's a perfectly good connection plug at the base of the Wiimote. I'm not sure why people don't consider that when it comes to developing a wireless headset.

Maybe I don't know enough about what that connection can do, but as the Wiimote uses Bluetooth then using a headset and a short range wireless connection (not Bluetooth, probably something proprietary)  in the form of a plug that you connect to the end is inside the realm of possibility. No battery required - talk as long as the Wiimote has power.

Also, where's the charger pack for the Wiimote? I'd kill for an adapter to plug into the remote to recharge the rechargeable batteries inside my Wiimote. Throw in a couple of rechargeable batteries and its a done deal.
