This was already mentioned on the front page.

On one hand, it sounds too out there to be true. But on the other, Nintendo is the type of company that would make such decision...

Already talked about in Talkback

But the source is Spong, and the wording throughout the article doesn't make sense in certain places.
The interviewee was refering to VC and not Wii specific games, as 3rd party games are already being developed with online. Elebits has already been released, EA has talked about how they got the online kits too late to implement online into Tiger Wods '07, and Blazing angels is sopposedly going to be the 1st 3rd party game with competitive online capability. It even has the WiFi logo on the boxart.

Yeah, LuigiDude also mentioned how SNK tends to be full of crap, like saying that they couldn't use the classic controller even though games released a month earlier used it.

I believe Reggie when he said that 3rd parties had the online kits. During the interview he was very confident when he said it, not nearly as confident when he talked about MP online, though.

/cry at SNK hate. I bought Metal Slug. Then I promptly beat the entire thing in an all-nighter with my younger brother, easily getting our moneys worth in continues from the game. We were essentially playing the same game through 7 sets of different stages... but it was great.

Let's recall how Capcom allowed the button placement in Mega Man Anniversary Disaster on GCN to be reversed.

I WILL NEVER FORGET

That disc didn't get the priviledge of staying in my GameCube for more than a day.

Granted I didn't care for Capcom's button placement, but I did manage to get used to it. In fact I completed all the Mega Man games with that control scheme.

When they decide that making games for the Wii will make them money.

Sega apparently has online kits and is releasing an online game in Japan by May.

Sega Sammy has in the works a Fist of the North Star-themed pachinko collection for Wii, and it features integration with two key features that reports had suggested were unavailable to third parties: the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection online service and Mii avatars.

The title features a handful of Wii-specific features, such as shaking the Remote to operate the pachislot games, and tilting it to control the "steering wheel" which in turn controls the speed of the balls in the pachinko games. The Wi-Fi Connection will lend support to the title for an online ranking system, where players will be represented by the Miis they select.

The title will be released on May 24 in Japan. It's doubtful it will appear in any other territory.

That Sega game has Mii support too. Crush two FUD rumors in one.

Wonderful, more online boards, because that sort of thing can't be done from a computer with codes generated by the game.

I want real online support. There's an IGN article I dont' feel like getting the link for where Activision(I think) and Demonware, state that they are planning on making online games for the Wii, as well all the other systems. Let's hope this happens this year, and bodes well for the future.

IGN: Will this acquisition enable the implementation of online functionality in future Wii games published by Activision?

Steve Pearce: We tend to provide online functionality for all console platforms.

Dylan Collins: If you look at our track record, we've always been pretty much the first network guys on any platform coming out.

IGN: So you do have plans to develop online-enabled Wii games in the future?

Steve Pearce: Yup.

Dylan Collins: Yeah, I would say we do.

I think it should be clear to most people now that anything SNK says is not to be trusted.  Which is quite sad when you consider that Sony treated them like crap for the last several years and here you have Nintendo welcoming them with open arms and allowing them to release anything on their console.  Hell, they're even allowing them to put the Neo Geo on the Virtual Console.

And how does SNK repay Nintendo for their kindness, by stabbing them in the back to cover their own ass because they're too damn lazy to impliment Classic Controls or Online in their games.  You think since Nintendo is the only company that will allow 2d games on their system, SNK would be a little more grateful.

And dont say Microsoft because 2d games are only allowed on X-Box Live this gen because Microsoft like Sony views 2d as an inferior format and they only want realistic 3d games with HD graphics to show off their systems power.
