Title: More Virtual Console Hints from ESRB
Post by: MegaByte on February 21, 2007, 03:25:44 PM
Konami gets ready to release four titles.

Once again, several Virtual Console games have shown up on the ESRB rating site ahead of a formal release announcement.  The four games, all coming from Konami, are for the NES and SNES.

First is Zombies Ate My Neighbors, an SNES game developed by Lucas Arts and originally released in 1993.  The game is a run-and-gun comical tribute to horror films of the 1950s.  It features 2-player cooperative play, and is rated E10+ for cartoon violence.

The second game is the classic vampire-slaying platformer, Castlevania.  Castlevania originally released in 1987 on the NES and spawned an entire franchise that remains popular to this day.  It is rated E by the ESRB and contains fantasy violence.

Next is Gradius III, a popular shoot-em-up starring Vic Viper.  Originally released in 1990, the SNES game is actually a port of an arcade game.  The game is rated E and includes mild fantasy violence.

Finally, we have Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, an NES platformer starring the comic/cartoon characters of the same name.  Originally released in 1989, the first TMNT game was quite different from later beat-em-up incarnations.  It is rated E and contains cartoon violence.

No official release date has been set for any of the games.  Additionally, Excitebike, which originally showed up on the ESRB list in November, has returned, suggesting an imminent release.

The first TMNT for the NES? Oh wait, that one didn't have any music from the show, did it? So I suppose that's still pretty far off from possibly having II-IV show up on this, which were really great games.

My heart lies on the SNES games. To be honest, as much of a TMNT fan that I am, and was as a kid, I was never an admirer of the NES games. They were too hard and annoying for me.

ZOMBIES ATE MY NEIGHBORS

This is the star game among these four, and one of the first games I wanted when I heard about the Virtual Console. Will it be the SNES or Genesis version?

TMNT can stay far away from my Wii, I am going to wait for TMNT2,3 and 4 with the music BACK.

Sadly, if no one downloads TMNT1, they'll decide there is no market for the older TMNT games and not release 2-4.

I dunno about that. TMNT is making a comeback in the movies, so I would suspect it would get downloaded anyway driven by market steam. At any rate, Konami seems on board with VC, so they'll throw whatever they've got at it.

I'm totally loving VC now, it just gets better and better.

There was this NES game called McDonaldLand (i think it was called McKids in the states) that must find it's way onto the VC. Even though the difficulty was absolutely five-minute-hold-on-for-dear-life orgasm inducing hard.

This is why I want Paper Mario BAD on the VC. The physical cartridge goes for like, 40 bucks last time I checked.

Speaking of TMNT I am quite upset they have decided to delay new episodes until Fall (yes I derailed the topic). Fast Forward may not have been good as the first 4 seasons but it was still a fun show (Like the old show which is an all time favorite).

Yeah that one. It's the very first NES game i ever played, and even with the McDonalds association (which is very little), i still remember sitting there for hours with my brother trying to complete that ever-forsaken game.
