Title: OUENDAN!!!!!!!!.....TWOOOOOOOOOO!!
Post by: NWR_pap64 on February 21, 2007, 05:04:54 AM
Surprised no one is talking about this yet. During their press conference Nintendo not only announced a bunch of Wii games for 2007, they announced some new DS titles, including...OUENDAN 2!!!!

No screens and new info were shown.

Although to be honest, as much as I loved Ouendan and EBA to death, I hope they make the sequel really new and updated. I think doing the same thing for a third time could get boring.

The pointing technology in the Wii needs to be updated for this to work properly.  I very much noticed A LOT of skipping in the hand onscreen no matter how slow or fast you move the wiimote.  A game like EBA needs pinpoint accuracy to work properly.

To be honest, the EBA/Ouendan formula can ONLY work on the DS. The game was made from the ground up to utilize the DS's touch screen. Try to bring that to the Wii and chances are the experience will be broken.

For the Ouendan formula to translate greatly, they would have to come up with a whole new engine that uses the Wiimote specifically.

And sorry to say this, SB, but I see Ouendan/EBA being one of those handheld only franchises. The only way this can change is if the Wii becomes so popular it would be stupid of them not to try their hand at a Wii version.

I think the Ouendan/EBA characters could work on the Wii, but I agree that the tapping couldn't translate to pointing. I think if they made a Wii version, it'd have to be about wide gestures, that almost feel like dancing (and let those who want to actually dance do so). Even if the pointing was perfectly precise, it'd lack the tangible "oomph" of tapping the screen.

BUMP!

Surprised no one has posted this. The game's developer already did his keynote at GDC and from the sounds of the previews, it was really cool.

First of here's the first images of Ouendan 2.

The only thing announced so far are the rival cheerleading team. Outside that, the game looks identical to Ouendan 1.

Next up is info on the keynote.
The report on the keynote

The liveblog information.

Some great info on the making of both Ouendan and EBA, deleted ideas (Disco rangers?!?) and a hint of a possible Ouendan/EBA sequel on the Wii.

BUMP!

I was thinking about Ouendan 2 while playing the original one and realized something; I have the feeling that Ouendan 2 will feature the same improvements and additions that was seen on Elite Beat Agents. They clearly looked at Ouendan and thought of the improvements they could make on the system and used EBA an a testing ground.

So I suspect Ouendan 2 will have the following features:
- A much better and detailed stats screen at the end of the song
- The ability to save multiple replays
- Single cart multiplayer
- The ability of skipping BOTH opening sequences in a song
- Different beat patterns (such as the double beats at the start of a trace line)
- Alternate endings and scenes
- DS rumble support
- Better 3D models

I'll be really surprised if Ouendan 2 doesn't implement these features.

Those new features and then some, no doubt. The "rival team" aspect should impact the game design in ways I can't really predict yet...

I suspect two things:
- The teams will have rival "cheer" offs. They will be cheering on the same person but try to outdo the other.
- A catastrophe will appear and its so big that the two teams will unite and cheer on the world!

I hope they do great things with the rival team.

Anyways, some new scans have surfaced.

I would love to see an EBA/Ouendan mash up where they mix (overlay) songs together and you dance as a member of Ouendan/EBA with 2 supporting characters from EBA/Ouendan. It'll never happen but it would be hilarious.

This is an epic game, but uh.... where's EBA 2? Huh NOA?

I swear Nintendo, why don't you just farm this game out to some smaller publisher like Majesco or Atlus if 300k in sales sin't good enough for you? Geez!

I don't think we need to blame Nintendo for this... iNiS seems to be a smallish developer, and I'm pretty sure they're working on something else... as much as I want an EBA 2, I'd rather be patient than have the game be made by someone else.

I totally agree. iNiS needs to make this or else I don't want it.

Just wanted to make some notes about the game here.

It is clearly an upgrade of the last Ouendan, containing all of the updated features found in EBA. The song selection is excellent. For the most part, every song has a very distinct rhythm which makes the game very fluid to play. It is not very often that you fumble in the medium setting mode. Now when you step up to the hard mode, things definitely amp up, requiring more complicated maneuvers and more disorienting note progressions. These songs will take a few tries before you will be able to complete them, however when you do so you will have mastered the song and your score should be very high upon completion. So far it feels like the medium mode of Ouendan 2 is much easier than that of EBA.

I wanted to comment on the rival cheer squads as well. They don't seem to tie together in any special manor. It makes for a more interesting story, but doesn't really add anything to the game. The map is separated, one half for the Ouendan squad and the other for the new cheer squad, however you don't get to face off on the same character with both squads. The end pairs up the two to save the world as you have done in all of the games in the series.

Pretty much everything Pap mentioned above is added into the game which is nice. The advanced beat patterns don't start until hard mode, but they are there.

Overall the game is awesome and much better than all of the other entries in the series. I look forward to Ouendan 3.
