Title: Throwing Svevan a bone.
Post by: Khushrenada on February 20, 2007, 08:55:52 AM
Alright. So, Svevan wants some attention. He wants some way to prove himself better than Bloodworth. He can't ban people or seem to lock threads. (By the way, check out the Gamecube forum for Bloodworth's latest locked thread and instaban. Just awsome.) It seems there is only one way in which Svevan could hope to compete. Yes, I'm talking about a movie discussion. I know that even in this area, Bloodworth still has the advantage but at least Svevan can put up some sort of fight in this topic.
So, to begin with, did you see the movie Breach, Svevan? What did you think of it?

He's going to come in here and give us some crap about how The Falcon and the Snowman was a better movie. Then he'll tell us to go watch a thirty year old documentary we've never heard of before even though it's supposedly the greatest film ever made. Finally, he'll try to convince us that Matt Damon is perfectly believable as a government assassin.
*yawn*

He's too in love with Bloodworth. He wants to pit him against other mods just so he can see his hero triumph.

Quick! Where's Athrun? Normally he does the vote Khushrenada joke.
Quote Why should two good man fight each other...Khushrenada shame on you, *points index finger at Khushrenada* instigator.
Hey. I did not start this fight. I'm just trying to end it. Svevan said that he questioned Bloodworth's manhood. (Apparently, he wanted to know what manhood is or something so he asked the expert)
Then, when Bloodworth proves who really is the men among boys here, (not the bast expression but whatever) Svevan suddenly wants to be a part of everyone's conversation and wants everyone to know he is a mod too and what's to be considered as a great mod. So, I gave him that chance.
But now everyone is attacking me for doing that. I understand why. Everyone here knows Bloodworth is the best mod and can't believe I would try to challenge that. Well, I just want to assure you that out of everyone on this board, I am the LAST person who would ever say that there is another mod greater than Bloodworth. SHAME ON YOU ALL for thinking that! So, put away your accusations and votes and let's put this misunderstanding behind us. Everything is right again in the world and you can all rest easy still knowing Bloodworth is the king of NWR just like you want him to be.
In other news, it seems that Svevan can't even offer his opinion on a movie. I know Bloodworth would have no trouble rendering a quick and decisive opinion on what he thought of something. But it seems Svevan can't do that. He's a flip-flopper. Can't make up his mind. Can't act. Flip-flops.

Well, I tried to give Svevan a chance. Should have known it wouldn't work.
You might as well lock this thread Bloodworth.
By the way, contrary to what some people may think. I don't actually hate Svevan. Why, he's one of the last people to still keep his F-Zero Mafia avatar. That shows the respect we have for one another.
(looks up) Hmmmm.
Contrary to what some people may think, I don't actually like Svevan. Instead of keeping his F-Zero mafia avatar, he changed it in a show of fealty to his superior, Bloodworth. (Which obviously is expected.) That shows the respect he has for Bloodworth.

Wow Svevan. You're the real lord of the dance.
(Svevan is dragged off stage)
Don't worry folks. He'll get the help he needs.
(And just in case there are some people out there confused by that, it is a reference to The Simpsons episode: Trash of the Titans. You can see the clip here: Just imagine Svevan as Homer and Bloodworth as U2's Bono. which is a fitting comparison.)

So... are we gonna talk about movies or what?
Title: RE:Throwing Svevan a bone.

Sadly, no. As I just said in another thread, (and I do hate repeating things in different threads. It just makes them so redundant. Like this one.) Svevan doesn't actually watch movies. As you can see from those photos, he's blind. Svevan has to feel movies instead.
Title: RE: Throwing Svevan a bone.

I would but your hand-eye cordination isn't that good and I might hurt you. I will, however, name a movie so that you can talk about how good it is since that seems to be what you want.
The Great Escape.
EDIT: Well, sorry folks. I don't know how long Svevan is going to take with this thing. Maybe he has gone to watch the movie right now. But it's almost 1:00 in the morning where I am and I have to be up by 8:00, so I'm afraid I'll have to continue this discussion right now. However, do not fear that you will be left alone with Svevan and his movie reviews. Just remember: If there's an emergency, just sound the horn of urgency. I'm sure that I or better yet, Bloodworth, will be able to help you out.

You're really making this difficult Svevan. Two movies and you haven't seen them. Alright, let's see.
Dr. Zhivago (the one with Omar Shariff)
Sunset Blvd.
Double Indemnity
The Maltese Falcon
The Bridge on the River Kwai
The Manchurian Candidate (Frank Sinatra version)
Paths of Glory
The Big Sleep
and if you're hoping for something recent:
Hotel Rwanda
King Kong (Peter Jackson version)
Cinderella Man
Pride and Prejudice (Kiera Knightly version)
I still can't believe you haven't seen The Great Escape. You'd better fix that oversight. I'd prefer to talk about one of the older films I listed but I guess we could talk about one of the newer movies if need be.

No, Reformed Christianity is an existing branch of the religion that's been around for hundreds of years (and is nothing more than the Biblical Christianity that's been around for 2000 years). It is distinct, but not separate, from modern evangelical Christianity.

Funny, but I'm curious. I've come across a lot of religious people but this is the first time that I've seen reformed used to encompass a group of Christians. Maybe I'm thinking of the born-again Christians, but discussions about religion are something that I enjoy greatly (PS I'm an atheist - throw your sinful stones now)

I'm pretty sure Reformed in this context means Calvinist. It's referring to the Protestant Reformation, when people became severely discontented with the Roman Catholic Church. There are several denominations that fall under that label.

Yay for self-research!
Calvinism is a reformed concept, but the reformed Church encompasses a lot more than just the basic five points. There are theological distinctions (the sovereignty of God, the depravity of man, the purpose of communion and baptism, the second coming of Christ, etc), but there are also liturgical and hierarchical differences: most reformed churches place a focus on the worship service as God meeting with man, through the scripture and the sacraments. They do not embrace the "pep-talk" or stage show stylistics that have shown up in modern churches. Although American reformed denominations will consider themselves a part of the American movement of Evangelicalism, most reject the individualistic self-centered philosophy that has invaded modern Christianity. Consider these statements "Smile: Jesus Loves You" or "Have you spoken to God today?" They seem like pretty simple phrases, but within them is held a theological premise and philosophical attitude that could be dangerous or outright false.
Calvinism is theology, but the Reformed Church is defined by theological issues beyond Calvinism as well as the major questions of human life and Christian living.
note: the article that Vudu linked is a specific denomination known as the "Christian Reformed Church," of which I am not a member. Many other denominations, as PartyBear insinuated, are considered "Reformed" since it is not a denomination in and of itself. There is such a thing as Reformed Baptists, for instance - most Presbyterians identify themselves as Reformed and were leaders in the movement in America. The Puritans were reformed (and very Calvinistic), and so forth. Try this link instead. Also, the historic reformers created five latin phrases known as The Five Solas that help sum up some key distinctions between Reformed Christianity and Roman Catholicism. These solas are debated even within Protestantism today, but much less so than the five points of Calvinism.

While I agree with some of the main points of calvinism I would not align myself fully with his teachings nor would I label myself a calvanist. I never looked too deeply into the reformed churches or theologies myself, I prefer to be labeld purely as Christian and more specifically, when asked, non-denominational. I question some of the practices of all major churhces, especailly those who call themselves Christian but ignore basic Biblical Principles. Um other than that I don't have anything else to say cuz I don't wanna break any rules.
