Turtle Beach launches Wii headphones

Elmsford (NY) - Turtle Beach today announced the availability of the Ear Force W3 headphones, a pair of wireless headphones designed for use with the Wii.

I've heard pretty good things about Turtle Beach before, and that product name and price almost seals the deal.  The behind-the-neck design looks pretty interesting.  Can anybody recommend their products from personal experience?

Edit: Upon looking at their website, I noticed there's a corded headset w/mic for the DS Lite.  Also found the product page for the Wii version.

While I don't how their headphones will sound, I can say that from my own experience, Turtle Beach makes quality products. I swear by the brand for MIDI to USB cables.

I wonder if they would work on the DS Lite, or if the transmitter is small enough to not bother the handling of the DS.

How long are your arms that you need wireless headphones on a DS?

I don't really see that as the issue. I'd be more interested in having one headset that would work with both my Wii and DS interchangeably. It's a peripheral that can go back and forth. Why shouldn't it? In fact, I'll be upset with Nintendo if they ever release separate headsets for each system. Talk about reaming your customers.

I have a set of Panasonics with about a 10 foot cord that I love to death.  (Great sound quality and durable for only 30 bucks it was a steal on amazon.  When I got them I could hardly believe that I didn't pay a lot more.)  That I use for the same thing...

Probably not. The fact that it works with a splitter cable means that it probably attaches to the Wii's RCA audio plugs, not your standard headphone jack (like on DS). You could buy some converters (or wires with different plugs), but it would be a pretty clunky setup. Plus switching between the Wii and the DS would require messing with the Wii's wiring every time.

If they release a made-for-DS transmitter and there is some easy way to switch between DS/Wii (optimally so that both can be running yet you only hear one), then it would work.

I have the body of an ape, short body with long arms...j/k.

MarioAllStar: Oh, good point, I forgot about that the audio cables for the Wii are split...hm, I like your idea of having a separate DS-only-transmitter, then the headphones should have some switch or dial to tune in to either Wii or DS.

OK, a few questions I have.

One: What makes this thing any different than any other wireless headset? True I haven't seen many over-the-ear (as opposed to over-the-head) wireless ones, but other than that...nothing.

Two: Does it transmit by infared or RF? RF is better because it doesn't need "line of site" but it does sometimes cause a little noise interferance. Also I wonder if it is IR, will it interfer with the remote

Three: Why did they have to make the base look so ugly? They should have at least used one that looked a little on the same lines as the Wii

And a statement.

Doesn't look like it does anything for the sound coming from the remote itself. So, sure it will cut out all the sounds of Zelda while your roommate is trying to study, but they still have to listen to Midna's little sinister laugh.

Think I'll be passing on this one

You could always mute the remote's speaker.
