Quote For the company's 2008 fiscal year, which begins on April 1, Griffith said Activision will have 60 individual products, or SKUs, which would "aggressively target the Nintendo platforms." He said the company "will be focusing on our most successful franchises--Call of Duty, Tony Hawk, and Guitar Hero," though he stopped short of announcing specific new titles.
Sounds like an indirect or accidental announcement of Guitar Hero on Wii to me.

A $50 bet says the game will see a Wii appearance. Real DDR is officially on the system now and I'm quite sure Activision would like to make sure that Konami has competition over here. Besides, they'll have the storage and the RAM now, no jumping through hoops with the hardware to make it happen.

The only issue I see people having with this game finally coming to a Nintendo system, is that it isn't being made by the orignal series creators anymore since MTV bought that studio but Activision now has the IP.

Well, technically, Rayman Raving Rabbids could be considered the first, since it debuted on the Wii first, then moved to the other consoles. But it was already destined to be a multi console games, so its hard to say.

I understand the basics of the fiscal year, but when given that estimate, there's no telling when a game is going to come out. That's why I say "ehhh...." when I hear announcement like that. There isn't much to go by. Guitar Hero could see the light of day anywhere between this coming April and next April.

Well, it's obvious that they must've only started development recently. After all, Guitar hero 2 just came out for the PS2 and they're not done up-porting the X360 version yet. In order for it to come out before late Holiday season, a lot of these games would have had to be in development in the past month or two...

It took a while for Ubisoft to up-port RE4 to PC.
I expect the new Guitar to have a little slot/groove that the Remote will plug into, or some pocket to store the remote and you attach a plug to the bottom.

I'm willing to bet most of Guitar Hero's engine is based off of Karaoke Revolution with Amplitude thrown in for the note charts, so this technically shouldn't be that big of a deal since Karaoke Revolution did hit the GC last year.

I don't think the game is very difficult to design. It is mostly creating interesting combo of chords to play and placing it to the music correctly.
What will be important is if the Wii version gets exclusive music to play...and as such if I was Nintendo, I would be sending representatives to Activision offering them classic Nintendo tunes done in by a rock band. As Nintendo I would even pay for the music creation myself.
Guitar Hero for Wii would instantly sell if you put in these songs:
Legend of Zelda Over World Tune Classic Super Mario World Classic Super Mario Brothers 3 Metroid Prime theme ect, ect.

I only see one problem with that approach... you need to use the remote to point at Disc Channel to start up the game. So we'd have to continuously be connecting/disconnecting the guitar each time we wanted to play.
That would be perfectly acceptable to me, but i'm not sure how Activision feels about it. Makes me wonder if the guitar will just be it's own bluetooth device.
Or would the remote plug into the very top of the guitar's neck? Then you could use the guitar like a gun to point at the Disc Channel, or to point at other things in the game itself. That would almost be cool... except, you know... it would be stupid.

You don't have to disconnect anything if the Remote is always connected but sitting in some kind of pocket or strap you can whip it out from.
And besides, you'd probably want the Remote secured in the guitar in the first place if you'd like to make a character wave the guitar around LIKE YOU DO on screen.

What it sounds like some of you are asking for is not Guitar Hero, but instead Guitario (Guitar + Mario = Guitario<pronounced almost exactly the same>). But that would be the same as Mario DDR and even though most liked it, most would have prefered a regular DDR game.
If anything, I think Nintendo should probably team up with a third party ot release some special downloadable songs(for a small fee if not for free) to help extend the gameplay and add incentive for the Nintendo fans to not only buy the game(+1 3rd party) but to also down load the additional content(+2 3rd party & +1 Nintendo). Win Win situation. We all get a regular version of the game and all the Nintendo fanatics get their precious Nintendo only extras.

If Guitar Hero 2 had a version of TROGDOR sung by STRONGBAD then there's no reason we can't get rock 'n roll versions of some classic Nintendo themes by garage bands. We're not asking for DDR Mario. We're asking for SC2 with Link as an exclusive character.

Just wanted to add that we now know that the wiimote will in fact plug into the GH3 wii guitar.
And in an effort to hype up the game, I wanna reference this post from the neoGAF forums from someone who works at a gamestore, listing how many pre-orders they got for certain games. For GH3 specifically...
Wow! Guitar Hero 3 is a major XBox 360 and PS2 game on monthly sales charts even today, months after its release. Sometimes, it's the brightest shining star for those systems. Could we soon be seeing that sort of sales success on the Wii? And will it spur EA to bring us Rockband?

I think it will as well.
Quote April 2, 2007 - During a conference call to announce its latest music game Rock Band for release on Xbox 360 and PS3, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos hinted strongly that a Wii-specific version of the title would be coming out in the future. When asked if there was any chance Rock Band would arrive on Wii, Rigopulos said without hesitation, "Absolutely."
"We will, at some time, bring Rock Band to every [important] platform," Rigopulos said. He added that Harmonix would optimize future versions of Rock Band to fit the strengths of the platform. "I think the Wiimote is something that holds enormous promise."
Rock Band comes to Xbox 360 and PS3 this holiday. No Wii version has been officially announced.
Title: RE: Guitar Hero coming to Wii!
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on July 23, 2007, 07:13:30 AM
Well then there you have it. But I have been saying that Rock Band was coming all along. I was actually hoping it would be announced at minE3 and have a demo set up too, but it wasn't.
My guess is that they took most of the PS3 versions programmers and moved them over to the Wii version to get them all caught up so that they could atleast release the Wii version along side the 360 version this holiday season. Then PS3 will then get a sloppy 360 port so that it can be released around the same time as the others too.

I think EA will suggest it but ultimately leave it up to Harmonix. EA pretty much got a sure fire hit from them and a major attraction to the press to check them out. Not to mention something that would idiotically easy to milk with additional content. Which could be sold as advertisement not just through consumer channels. You have a new song coming out and you want to promote it. Pay EA some money to turn into a RockBand song and offer it in a pack, at a discount, or even free and I'm sure it will help a little. The biggest problem with this scheme is, yet again, space. Those files can't be small.

It seems only the NWR staff are in love with Guitar Hero, because no one else on the forum is talking about it.
I'll honestly say I'm pretty psyched about this game. I've never played a Guitar Hero game but it's something that I've always been mildly interested in. With all the praise the series has gotten I figure I might as well give it a shot. Most of the main playlist is pretty good. I'm not familiar with a whole lot of the bonus songs, but I can't really complain about them.

I'll probably get it on PS2 unless they announce some nifty Wii features, since I already have guitar controllers. Bonus tracks on the last two games were almost all by indy bands, many of which had connections with Harmonix, from what I understand. I don't know whether the change in developer affected that trend.
Title: RE: Guitar Hero coming to Wii!
Post by: NWR_insanolord on September 20, 2007, 11:50:18 AM
Assuming I'm able to get a 360 I will be getting either this or Rock Band for that, depending on the final track list, because downloadable extra songs are definitely coming to those, as opposed to only being a chance on the Wii, and space isn't as much of an issue with a hard drive than the current setup on the Wii. Actually, if Nintendo confirms a hard drive is coming and Activision confirms the Wii will get downloadable content I'll get GH3 for the Wii, because I don't care about the drums or vocals aspects of Rock Band.

"It seems only the NWR staff are in love with Guitar Hero, because no one else on the forum is talking about it."
We're all just bitter that Guitar Hero wins innovation awards despite being a rip-off of Guitar Freaks.
Personally I'm of the idea that if you've played one rhythm game you've played them all. It's always entering button pushes in time with a beat only they find new ways to disguise those buttons in a custom controller. Usually I find the initial novelty fun but it gets kind of dull once that wears off. I have DDR and I really like it and that satisfies my rhythm needs.
I think the fantasy nature of Guitar Hero is a big part of the appeal. "Wow I can play guitar!" The thing is I actually CAN play the guitar so that part of the thrill doesn't exist for me. When playing in the store I got to the solo and felt like cutting loose with my own improvised solo. Only I couldn't because it's just a videogame. I think I'd prefer guitar karaoke where I play my real guitar with a backing track. The method of strumming kind of bugs me too as it just doesn't feel right. I'd prefer it if they actually had six strings to play. Actually that's probably how I would make a guitar game. Instead of pressing the right fret you have to play the correct strings in time to the beat. Though there probably isn't an audience for a guitar game designed in a way that feels more accurate for actual guitar players.
I'm nitpicking here. Odds are anyone who doesn't play guitar will really love Guitar Hero.

It's overrated but it's still a great game. And I never really liked DDR but I love what I've played of Guitar Hero. I think the reasons for that are 1. I'm not that good at DDR, and, while I'm also not that good at Guitat Hero, I'm much less not good, and 2. I find the song selection in Guitar Hero to be infinitely better than that of DDR (and that might be one of the causes of the first thing I mentioned).

Are you kidding Kashogi? This is what makes english such a great language, the liberalities we can and often do take with it. It becomes a personal language, not a bookish one, and there's something just... folkishly poetic... about it all.
Besides, by saying "much less not good" the emphasis is on the "not good," leading to an overall more self-effacing statement than the vaguely optimistic "much better."

I found the same thing. I finally played the game a couple of months ago after my cousin kept pestering me to do so. "Hey, you can shred: you need to play this!" It wasn't bad, but having played guitar for so long, it seemed too counter-intuitive. Apparently, I did quite well, but it felt tedious having to constrain myself to the patterns they set forth, some of which seemed really out of place, and mismatched to the way you would really play those parts.
I am not knocking the game, as it isn't intended to be a guitar simulation. I just agree that it may be a little funky for an experienced player, which could greatly affect its "lastability."

I've got to admit the track list is extremely disappointing. There are a few good songs, but I'd have to say Guitar Hero 2 has a much better set. And what the Hell is Devil Down to Georgia doing on there? This is Guitar Hero, not Fiddle Hero. Also, the WORST part is One being on GH3, and Enter Sandman being on Rock Band - that should be the complete opposite. One is a much better bass, drum, and vocal (and guitar) song that Enter Sandman.

also i have a problem with every punk song they picked: Social Distortion - Story of my life - they have so many better songs with better riffs, why pick one of their “slow” songs?
Sex Pistols - - they just suck, i'm sorry
Dead Kennedys - Holiday in Cambodia - I don't have a problem with the song itself but i know i'll have a problem with the awful way they'll censor it. After hearing the crappy version of Police Truck on GH2 i wanted to break my friends ps2

I loved the first Guitar Hero but didn't get the second. What are all these boss battles and special encores? Do you just play the song while a digital Slash does as well? How is this different from just completing a regular song? Co-op could be cool if you play at the same time but I won't be buying an extra guitar so I hope they are available in single player as well.
I see all kinds of modes being added in when all I care about is the different songs and it worries me about the future of the franchise. I hope they haven't made it harder to move on in the career mode with these additions. While I liked the difficulty on hard I got pissed that I couldn't play songs a tier above me on that difficulty because I consistently had more trouble in each mode with a supposedly easier song then all the ones above it. I can understand making expert more challenging for the superhardcore but this game sold because anyone could get into it and I would hate to have myself or others be denied songs because they went too far.

I bet boss battles are like the computer plays a riff and you have to match it, possibly without seeing the notes on screen, kind of like a Simon. I'm pretty good at Guitar Hero - the only song on the regular tracklist I can't beat on part 2 is the Expert version of Freebird. I'm in about the top 20% (which is still around 15,000th place) on the Leaderboards on XBL, maybe higher now since I've played a little and beaten a few more songs with higher songs.

In case anyone is wondering, it's totally beyond a shadow of a doubt confirmed that the Wii version of GH3 IS online. IGN just posted a hands-on, playing the final version of the game. They say there's absolutely no lag when playing online with the Wii or the 360 (possibly in the PS3 version, though it can be easily adjusted for), although they are using closed servers at this time, they also praise the Wii for it's unique features in this game. Looks like the Wii version *could* possibly get the best review, at least from IGN, providing they don't incorporate DLC into the review.

You know, it's going to be really interesting to see which version of this game sells the most. The Wii one is getting pushed pretty well, but the 360 already has an established fanbase.
Hmm.

The PS2 version will sell the most. No question about it.

The PS2 and 360 versions will sell the most stand-alone games, but I'm betting the Wii version will sell the most guitar/game packs.

Oh it'll sell more than the PS3 on both accounts, there's no question about that, and will probably sell more bundles than 360 as well. I bet the PS2 version sells more than all the others combined though. PS2 Guitar Hero 2 was the #1 game for a long time, and when it was on top, it was destroying everything else each week.

if the amount of bundle packs we received is about the same ratio at other stores then I can say that they are planning on the PS2 version selling the most, followed by the 360, then Wii, and finally the PS3. Of course it seems to me that the PS3 sales will be cannalized by the ps2 bundle if everything from it will work on the PS3.
