Title: Nintendo's Message on your Wii about wrist straps
Post by: NeoThunder on February 06, 2007, 02:17:54 PM
OK?....At about 9:10 pm CST, I recieved a message on my Wii from nintendo stating the following
Nintendo has received some reports that when consumers swing the Wii Remote witht he original version of the wrist-strap using excessive force and accidentally let go, the cord connecting the controller to the wrist strap can break. Nintendo has made a new version of the Wii Remote wrist strap available to replace the original one used in early product shipments.
It then gives the phone number and website you can call or visit to determain if you need to replace your straps.
I could be wrong but....isn't this news about a month or two late? Is this a good move for Nintendo to state how the first straps are ineffect "defective". The one place that may save them is by stateing "using excessive force".
Did anyone get a message on their Wii from Nintendo?

If you own a Wii, then a "defective" announcement doesn't matter--they already have your money. Honestly though, I don't think anyone will be turned off the Wii because the original wrist straps were faulty. It's old news now and people still are waiting in line to try and get a system.
I do think it is odd that this message is being sent out so late.

I got it as well.
I agree that its a bit too late, since all the Wiis and controllers recently shipped come with the revised straps. But its nice that they are massively announcing it.

The Wii light is glowing now so I'm sure that's the msg right there.

Weird that they would do it now. Maybe the "third revision" is the final one so they feel confident in telling everyone about it?

You know, you wouldn't think anyone would be turned off by it. However, when I brought it to my grandparents house, over the holiday, my aunt had seen the story and was terrified of being in the room while I proselytized my cousins.

The original wrist straps are perfectly fine..

Yeah but some people apparently felt the need to fling their Wiimotes wildly across the room at high velocities.

I just realized...
Have you guys noticed that the shock stories about Wii accidents have stopped ever since Nintendo took care of it?
Nothing has been said since launch, the system is still selling like hotcakes and Nintendo succeeded at addressing the problem.
Either people took notice and started playing safely or the new straps really did the trick...

Or....People know they can't bitch and blame their carelessness on the straps now that new ones are out....I'm still sure there are people still playing without straps, loosing their grip, and breaking ****.
I still think this was the case before and people blamed it on weak straps when that was clearly a questionable result.

Or... people realize that making up stories and posting videos on the Internet isn't as much fun anymore.

Exactly, anyone who just so happens to be filming themselves when something like that happens- I call BS. I still have the first wrist strap and there is no way that this thing would break and go flying unless I was actually trying to make it do so... even then I'm sure I'd have a bit of trouble.
