Title: Should We Import the GBA SP?
Post by: ArtVandelay on March 12, 2003, 04:44:10 PM
After finally getting a GBA, I found out about the SP and immediately returned my regular GBA. I haven't ship it from Asia (I'm in the U.S.) because I get a discount over here in a local Best Buy. Anyways, after being gaga over the platinum for many months, I've suddenly changed my oppinion and totally want to go for the black (especially cuz of the smaller chance of visible scratches). So since black ain't comin out here for however long and I want it now, I want to know if importing is a good idea. All games and everything are compatible, but the only thing thats holding me back is with this lithium ion battery and the whole plug into the wall and charge thing, will I need a stepdown converter to charge it in my outlet? If I do then it'll be a pain with a car plug in and all that. Thanks to all who know I should go for this

Don't import. GBA SP should be in stores by the 24th of this month, but I'm hearing the 21st from local stores.

99 bucks.
as far as scratches on black, if it is able to easily scratch platinum then i would think black would be much easier to see scratches in.
think of a car. a white one or silver one and a black one. now have you ever keyed a car or seen one keyed? a light color car is very hard to see minor scratches on but black, well you can see them all way to easy.
if the plastic casing is not just painted but made with the pigment miced throughout then niether color should be that bug a deal towards scratches. just don;t put it in your pocket with a set of keys and you should be just fine.

Thats not a good comparison, as cars are just simply painted, so that it reveals teh metalic color underneath when scratched. As far as I can tell, the casing is black also, not just simply painted.
While the platinum casing may be a "platinum" color also, a dark colored scratch will be much more visible than on black casing.

a dark colored scratch? what the hell do you have planned for your gba ha ha ha ha, lol.
minor nicks and scratches shouldn't be a big deal on light colors, especially if it is that way throughout the casing and not just paint. if it is paint over a darker color then yes it would show more on the platinum but if the plastic is all that color it shoould still show less. a deeper scratch especially. have you ever taken a knife or sharp object to dark plastic? the edges tend to lighten in color of the scratch making it stand out a little bit more. if it is just a light scratchh or nick, niether color would make much of a diffenece. if you plan to fill your scratches in with dirt or a marker or whatever then yes, on the lighter system you would see it.
i guess my point is just that i would not worry about scratches enough to choose a color over it.
