Title: It's a Mini Game first quarter!
Post by: ShyGuy on January 05, 2007, 04:20:37 PM
Nintendo's lineup for the Wii over the next few months:

WarioWare Smooth Moves 01-15-07 - Mini Games!
WiiPlay 02-12-07 - Mini Games!
Mario Party 8 03-05-07 - Mini Games!

It's clear that Nintendo has killed the epic, hardcore game. Not really, I'm just being an instigator. Let's see who takes the bait.

Mini games died with the GameCube's cute little sized discs.

It's like the DS launch all over again.

I am really looking forward to WarioWare, as I am sure I have mentioned before. It sounds like the next great (non-)game to show to friends (the first being Wii Sports, of course).

I already reserved Wii Play since it comes with a controller. Too bad it's only 2 players. At least, I'll have 3 controllers for Wii Sports.

Oh great. I already own four controllers. What am I going to do with a fifth controller? :\

Maby it'll start out with minigame collections but there are plenty of hardcore gamer games coming out. Like No More Heroes. (just thinking about it makes my mouth water)

How long did it take for the DS to start getting really good games?

Kirby, Meteos, Advance Wars, and Castlevania DoS cry silently

As good as those games were, they were no reason to run out as fast as you can and buy a DS.

When someone says REALLY GOOD GAME, then it gots to be worth the system purchase alone.

I hope you're not refering to that awful Canvas Curse game.

Wait, what? Meteos and Advance Wars are the two games I play the most on the system, even now that they have been out for so long.

I'd say DoS was a definite system seller, but Nintendogs was probably the DS's first true killer app, followed by Animal Crossing, MK and Brain Age.

Then, NSMB, of course.

I intend to get WiiPlay, but mostly just as a bonus for getting a controller.
I'd like to play Warioware, preferably with a bunch of people in a questionable state of sobriety.  Looks awesome.  Just don't think I'll buy it.

You're dead to me, Smoke. Dead. Dead like smoke coming off a dead body on a dead planet. Because that's dead smoke alright. It's not alive smoke like the smoke that comes off a house on fire. One that nobody was in, on a planet that's reading the newspaper and wearing cool sunnies. Cool sunnies smilie. No sir.

Kirby Canvas Curse is the most underrated DS game ever.
It made full use of the touch-screen, did it well with incredibly innovative controls, had classic Kirby level design, tons of secrets and unlockables, and was one of few games that made having a second screen as a map feel like a true necessity. Not to mention the dangerously fun boss battles.

But enough of that rant.

Wario and WiiPlay are definitly mini-game collections but Mario Party is a little different.
I'd say it's more of a party/board game. Let's not forget Secret Rings either. Looks like it could be the best Sonic console game in generations. And I've heard it has a mini-game collection too for all you mini-game whores.

It is going to be a minigame-heavy first half, and that's not surprising.  Mini-games are the easiest thing to do with a new interface.

I'd say we're still ahead of the DS curve.  The launch lineup was better and the selection of games that are supposed to be available this year is quite impressive.

Minigames are an easy way to test what the Wii can do so good input methods for future games can be found. What's found unworkable in a minigame won't be found unworkable in a 60€ game.

I don't know about you people but I didn't expect the Wii to have good games any time soon. I merely bought one this early because I think it will have good games before the first pricedrop comes.
