Awesome!!! This is one of my favorite franchises after all, so pre-ordering this gem is a no-brainer... With or with-out the cool stylus! *pre-orders*

Exactly what I did. I preordered months ago because PW took me forever to get. Capcom sucks at predicting consumer demand.

Excellent, excellent. With every preorder, the localization of the third game becomes more likely:

This is why I resisted importing the game...

I don't understand why Nintendo Australia felt the need to wait a year after it was released in Europe and TWO years after it was released in Japan/US, before finally releasing it here...
Sometimes being in Australia really sucks for gaming

Anyone else scared to not buy it? I would probably hold off for a few weeks (I'm going to be playing FFIII for at least that long) but given the supply shortages of the first one I'm scared to wait.

Quote Presentation: 7.0 The same over the top energy and focus on writing that the first game excelled at. Maybe next time we can get full voice-over as an option.
Will they never give up on this fixation with voice-overs?

After finally beating the game, I must say that the final case is the singular most stressful gaming experience I've ever had (not just the fact that it's a tough case, you'll see what I mean... )...And that's in a good way, because it made the ending just that much sweeter!
Title: RE:The Ace Attorney thread
Post by: wandering on February 23, 2007, 11:50:40 AM
I'm making this the official thread for all the Ace Attorney games. I don't think there's quite enough interest in the series 'round here to warrant a separate thread for each game. I trust there will be no objections.

Really? I would've thought you'd have a harder time with case 3, what with your coulrophobia.

Considering Capcom couldn't get Franziska's voice anything close to right in English (needed to more commanding, angry, and German), I agree that voice overs would not be a good idea. Besides that, the Phoenix Wright games would need to be a super megahits (which they aren't) to justify the expense of hiring good actors.

STOP USING YOUR VUDU MAGIC
GET OUT OF MY HEAD!
I like bumping these older game threads, I think the discussion is much more interesting after more people have had a chance to pickup the game and play it a while.
Most game threads are hot the months leading up to release because forumites are in there wildly speculating and complaining about games they have never played. Once it's out, hardtime-longcore, people like Bill and Pro beat the game in the first weekend of release and stop talking about it.

I just beat episode two this morning and I have to say I disagree with you. Yeah, it doesn't feel at ... "fresh" as the first game, but only because it's so similar. However, it's not terrible by any means.
I thought the story was really clever in the first one. Phoenix losing his memory allowed the episode to have a sort of tutorial feeling without seeming completely out of place now that he's a big-shot attorney.
The second episode was well constructed in that there weren't many instances where I had no idea what I had to do next. There were many times (especially in court) towards the end of the first game where I knew the truth but I didn't have any clue what piece of evidence to present in order to get the right answer. I never had that problem during the second episode of Justice For All. I'm eagerly anticipating the third episode, which I'll probably start up this afternoon.

I think vudu puts it nicely. The later cases in both games tend to have situations where things might not be obvious, but that's about one of the only ways they can try to make those cases more difficult. I do believe the final cases in the second game had a bit more "evidence that's related but isn't" unfortunately. Meaning that if you think of an answer to the question at hand and present something that makes logical sense to discredit it it may still not take b/c there is another piece of evidence that is actually the trigger - which then usually leads to pheonix automatically presenting what you originally put up.
I've hooked 3 people on these games not including myself. The biggest problem I see is people overthinking, getting ahead of themselves, and not keeping evidence in context of the current court's understanding of it.

I finished the game, and my opinion of it has improved marginally.. There's no doubt that the stories were as good as ever, and the Magatama helped somewhat break the investigation routine of Move-Talk-Present-Talk-Move but I just didn't enjoy the game as much, especially the first part. I don't think it's because I'm getting bored of the formula, but since the Edgeworth case I haven't really been having fun with the franchise.
Though some of the humour in the last case especially was great - like Gumshoe telling Pearl to stay away from whips.. I have to disagree with Bill, though - I didn't find the last case stressful, as he put it, at all.. You could see the ending come from a mile away, and since you already knew the truth all you needed to do was buy some time. Usually you uncover secrets during the trial, but this one was quite dull.
Also, the Edgeworth storyline was very disjointed. Even if you disregard "Rise from the Ashes" since it was never part of the original series, his whole reasoning for leaving for a year was messed up. They made it seem like after he was acquitted and von Karma was caught, he had made peace with himself, and he even wanted to trade spots with Phoenix to become a defense attorney. There wasn't even a hint that he was so troubled that he would take a year off to find himself and his purpose.
Maya's drawing on the card at the end was touching, though

Hmmph, I never said it was stressful as in difficult...It was stressful in the sense that you were defending a killer to buy time...And I really love my characters, so I'll personally feel more anxiety in a case with Maya on the line than some random person... =)

It's the same both ways. He realises that if he's not guilty he'll be killed, and it cuts to the self-scratching part where he confesses
Maya's drawing was touching.

If you call him "Not Guilty" I think the defendant himself calls out an objection ... which is kind of funny. The real "decision" of "what kind of lawyer are you" came a bit earlier... and is mostly self reflecting.
