Title: Wii Zelda Guides, both LE and non-LE, 9.99 at Best Buy
Post by: Strell on December 19, 2006, 12:41:46 PM
In short: The Limited Edition Hardback and non-LE guides for Wii Zelda are 9.99 at Best Buy. The LE retails for 20 at most places, 30 at others, and this appears to be a price mistake on Best Buy's part. It was originally 17.99, but has dropped to 9.99.
A more lengthy explanation follows.
Copying from my CAG post:
I put in this thread, (http://"http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120441") but people (Edit: Indeed, Sir Roufuss) are saying it deserves its own thread.
The LE Zelda Guide (http://"http://www.primagames.com/catalog/display.pperl?isbn=9780761555735") with the gold trim and cloth map is $17.99 at Best Buy in store.
I didn't know this. I saw it at 19.99, decided using a GGC on it was good enough for me, so I checked out. I noticed the clerk was taking a little longer than I thought he would. Turns out it rang up 17.99, but he overrode the coupon's 19.99 limitation anyway, giving it to me for 12.99.
At the worst you can get it for 17.99, aye?
Edit: Wanted to add this - oddly, the LE guide was next to the other Prima guides (both the Wii and GC versions), and they were marked 19.99 as well. So go figure on that.
Edit 2: The bullet list on the back states "written specifically for the Wii version."
Edit 3: Holy crap. Appears to be 9.99 now. ....I OVERPAID THREE DOLLARS!!!
Edit 4: The Gamecube guide is STILL 19.99.

Yea, I would suggest that if you want one, you go get it NOW. It will undoubtedly sell out for this price.

What's so great about these guides anyways? They're THIRD PARTY guides aren't they?

Oh noes, I only got mine for 20 dollars! (10 dollars cheaper than the retail price...)
Kairon: The Prima LE guide is the best guide EVER...It is certainly worth the 20 bucks I spent on it, and a STEAL at 10...

Thanks a bunch Strell I went to my local Best Buy after reading your post and go my 10$ guide! It is one of the most gorgeous looking strategy guides I've ever seen. Not to mention I had a 5$ reward certificate so I got the guide for alittle over 5$!

It looks badass, but I can't see myself buying it. I would be tempted to use the guide, which IMO ruins my zelda experience.

Buy the guide. If it's as good as everyone says, then you'll be happy.
I'm a proud owner of both of the Earthbound and Link to the Past Nintendo Power guides, and it ENHANCES the experience immensely being able to dig much deeper into the game with a guide that's not written just as a walk through, but as an exploration and elaboration of the world outside of the game's scope.

How is this different than the guide that Nintendo Power gave away?

It looks cool. On the other hand, I already beat the game, and I'm on the verge of 100% completion. Would I benefit from this in any other way? (I'm not so much a collector as a player)

I dunno, but the cloth map is really neat and of course the guide itself is really fancy looking. But in regards to whether it will help you much in regards to playing the game, maybe, maybe not it does have everything you can find and do in it though.

Amazon DOES have it, but they say it'll take 4 weeks to deliver.

Yeah, I just saw that, seems like it changed. But yeah, no way I was gonna wait 4 weeks AT LEAST to have it shipped to me. I usually get all my books from the French Amazon but they don't seem to carry it (even being Amazon, they're a different company than the US one).
