Title: A Wii horror story...
Post by: NWR_pap64 on December 17, 2006, 06:51:25 AM
I just read this story at Go Nintendo and while I don't know if part of this story is made up for the sake of drama, I got scared at the fact that people were ready to tear the woman apart just to get her Wii...But what got me the most was that she needed police escort in order to go home with her Wii.

Girl barely survives

The minute someone KILLS for a Wii you know things are going too far...

I don't know....it sounds like it may have been exagerated a little bit.  Plus, it was kinda dumb for a girl to go get something like that all alone when there's gonna be a crap load of guys...Guys who have no life or girlfriend

Hence why I mentioned parts of it may be fiction, but considering that in the past people have stabbed kids in order to get a Pokemon card, they assaulted people over a Tickle me Elmo and people have killed for a PS3, this isn't all that surprising.

I think she was embellishing a bit for dramatic purposes.

well it is a little considering this is more than a month after the console has launched, I can't believe the people who have to have one, waited a month to find someone to beat up for one.  The only reason would be if you have your thumb up your ass for a month, waited till the last min. to find one, and even then.......you got there late and got at the back of the line.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- We all know the new Nintendo Wii is the number one present to give this holiday season.

Everyone wondered if Wii would be the "it" item this holiday season and I say it is official.  Wii is the item to get this holiday.

In response to Kairon's question, I just started writing up a wierd answer. That's what happens when you are up late at night. If you do read this however, I suggested reading it in a Captain Kirk voice. For someone reason, that was the way I started writing it up. Staying up late does wierd things to a person.

Aaah.

Those heady days of Nintendo fans gathering together to do what they can to make the new console a success. Not knowing for sure what the future would hold but hoping that after two console wars dominated by Sony, maybe things would turn around.

And so, gathered together, they camped out to do what they could to combat the Sony hype machine by buying all the systems they could now to hopefully give the Wii a boost in its early infancy. Oh sure. The buzz was that there would be plenty of systems and you could probably walk into a store and pick one up. With the low supply of PS3's selling out instantly, the big supply of Wii's would probably make the PS3 look like the hotter item. But, united in their quest to buy all the Wii's they could now and top the sales of the PS3, Nintendo fans happily gathered together to make their dream a reality. To make the Wii #1.

And then, a funny thing happened. It worked. Wii's sold out. People started showing others, others started playing. Reports started coming in all over about the Wii attracting new players. PS3 prices in ebay were dropping but Wii's were raising. Wii was the top selling console of the month. Suddenly, everybody started hearing about it and wanting one. Yes, it had caught the attention of the media's eye. And now, that dream, that long sought after dream has become abit of nightmare.

Yes, Wii has attracted the mainstream. And, as we all know, for the past while, the mainstream has been with Sony. And now we are seeing the effects of this Sony association as they flock back to Nintendo. Plus, they have a different dream. Their dream is not to put Nintendo on top but to just get themselves a console.

In an actual reply to this thread, I think Pap makes the story sound even worse than it is. Barely survives? Please. She just had a tug of war. In fact, they were only grabbing her bag and pulling. There's no mention of bodily contact. Where did you get tearing a woman apart from that? It sounds to me like a bunch of people just hung around after to make offers to those who bought one. Then, some moron in the crowd got the bright idea that maybe I can force it from her and started pulling the bag. I don't know if any others joined in that. The reporter did say customers so the plural leaves the possibility open. But, it doesn't sound like it got as serious as you write it up to be.

Sounds like a load to me.  Wouldn't her boyfriend be likely to read her column?  Would she really tell the world that she purchased a Wii for him and then say at the end of the article that she's going to wrap it up and keep it a secret?  Bogus.
