Title: An accessory idea...
Post by: UncleBob on December 15, 2006, 02:06:54 PM
Well, now that all three "Next Gen" systems are out, and (I believe) they all use Bluetooth (although the 360 might not), here's something that I think would be neat but you'll never see...
You know those video rocker chairs that you see all over the place? I'd be interested in seeing one of these that connects to the various systems and does a couple of things...
Of course, the different software titles would have to be programmed for this - and thus, you'll never see this actually happen, but...
Picture the Rocker chair with speakers (as a lot of these do now a days), but instead of having a cable lying across the room, the system actually sends the sounds to the chair via bluetooth (like the Wii Remote's speaker, but better quality, of course). Proper speaker placement could make for some really neat sound effects around your head.
Second... there are some of these rocker chairs that have built-in rumble, however, this rumble pretty much sucks because it works with the sound effects and not with the game itself. what if the chair rumbled whenever (and where ever) it was told to (again, via Bluetooth)... Imagine playing Eternal Darkness and having something poking you on your sholder or such... while whispering your name through the speakers....

That would make for an awesome accessory. It's too bad that something like that would be expensive and not really feasible. I'm hoping at some point in the future we are spending $600+ on something like this that makes the game immersive, plus other cool stuff dealing with three dimensional immersion, and not upgraded hardware that has the same crap we've been playing for the last decade.

great idea! if the option was available it would be great whether its expensive or not. Some people want the best.

Actually it is feasible to do a chair like that and not have the games to be programed for it. You can program the chair to pick up the return single from the game for the certin controller and then do the rumble and sound the controller does.
Of course you would have to know how the controllers pickup their numbers.

i saw one of those at a Sharper Image just the other day. I'm not sure if it used bluetooth but it was wireless and had speakers on the left and the right of the top of the chair (where your head would rest)
Edit: i was lazy and didnt real the second half of your post UB. just to clarify i saw a rocker chair with wirless speakers but no rumble. one that rumbled the way you described it (ie not rumbling with sound but with in game collisions or the like) would be super
