Title: DDR for Wii?
Post by: UERD on December 15, 2006, 02:36:44 AM
Hello. (First post!)
I am about to get a Wii (and hopefully sell my Gamecube on eBay), and I just wanted to ask a question.
Are there any upcoming Dance Dance Revolution games for the Wii? I'd hazard a guess that the success of the platform would make at least one new game a relatively sure prospect, but I could be wrong on even that. I know that in terms of non-Playstation DDR games that there was one for the GCN and one for XBox 360, but has there been anything confirmed (or suspected!) for the Wii yet?
Thanks, UERD

Nope. I agree that it's likely, but there's no word on it.
We'll probably start hearing more new game announcements after New Year since the companies want you to buy games now, not later.

I thought Happy Feet had a DDR portion in it. Not sure if it's in the Wii version and how it's played.
(We're considering moving the Wii down to the bottom shelf as well as horizontal to make it possible to play DDR: Mario Mix. The cable's not long enough to comfortably go that high.)
I remember someone saying accessories like dance pads could have a Wii Remote slotted into them to communicate wirelessly, but wouldn't that make it something you could accidentally step on?

I think Konami could go the easy way arround and just use a gamecube or USB port for DDR pads and companies can do the same for stuff like a guitar or what not and since that racing game that uses the bongos was moved to the Wii I won't be surprised if that would happen.

The best way to make a ddr pad is to just have the wiimote snap into at the top portion (the plastic part where the wire usually goes in). That would probably work perfectly.

I thought about this too, it would be nice to have DDR for Wii. I'm sure we'll at least get something. DDR: Mario Mix 2?

I think a DDR Wii game could really be something special. Have the traditional DDR game, but then add a version of the game and you hold two Wiimotes as well. You can have he characers hands mimic the movements of the dancer...or add depth by requiring hand movements in dances as well.

There are games with hand motions that require sensors (Para Para Paradise?) but the Wii Remote or two may be better.
The pads should probably go in the GCN controller ports in that case because if you need three Wii Remotes for just one player, how would you have 2-player Vs.?
(OMG ELITE BEAT AGENTS FOR THE WII. AWESOME IDEA. Though that likely wouldn't require a pad, never mind.)

I'll say it again. Bluetooth supports up to seven devices. The Wii only allows four controllers. What else could the remaining spots be for if not accessories like dance pads, especially since that would keep all the controllers available for additional fun like Spak-Spang's idea?

I really won't be surprised if Konami decides to makes a Para Para Paradise or a Dance Maniax but I really want to see how a Dance Maniax game would work on the Wii since theres a 2 upper and 2 lower sensors.

I thought I remember someone from Nintendo using a Dance Dance Pad as an example for the Wiimote's attachment port. Maybe it was Matt at IGN, I can't remember.
I would really love for some more (Konami) Dance Dance support on a Nintendo console, especially considering that fact that I already have two GameCube Dance Dance pads.
Even better would be the use of Mii's and on-line functionality to have Dance Dance tournaments, etc. 'Twould be something interesting.

I'm sure we'll see one at some point during its lifetime.
Despite horrible reviews, Mario DDR sold extremely well to the point where it had to go back into manufacturing due to such high demand.
If the Wii userbase becomes large enough, we'll definitely see one and likely sequels.

IMHO DDR Mario Mix was the most entertaining of the DDR's and I like DDR. Though it is despised by the truly hardcore DDR players for its lack of super difficulty. (Just to put that in prospective I own all the PS1 and 2 DDR games except for the last one. I also used to do the Step Mania scene and I have played In the Groove.) I wouldn't mind a sequal. Though traveling through all the Nintendo worlds would be preferable.

Dance Dance Revolution: Nintendo Mix?
I want to see Zero Suit Samus shake it, while I avoid Metroids that are floating up and reaching for my arrows.
Or at least the Zero Suit Samus part.
Though it would be funny if it turned out that Ganondorf knew some crazy dance moves.

Be one of the versus battles in the single player. Gannon Versus Link. Though I don't know if I want to see it WW style or TP Style...

Dance Dance Revolution: Elite Beat Agents
This seems to me to be the perfect solution. Mix Arm movements, and rhythm foot work to save the world.
I also like traveling through Nintendo's game in a Nintendo Mix.
Dungeon music of Zelda could have a battle scene between Gannon and Link. When you miss the notes you lose hearts, and your chains equal longer combos and magic techniques against Gannon that you can watch while you play.
I think that would be the coolest game created.

I think I got the perfect idea. Use the gamecube ports for the Wii DDR this will be much better since it will make DDR mario mix people happy, Konami and Nintendo happy since all they have to do on the Wii DDR pads is switch Start to + and Z to - (or keep it Z) and keep the gamecube pads functionally the same. Then there should be your normal modes with X ammount of scaling difficulties. The second mode it would be DDR pads + Wii remote(s) to enhance the dancing aspect of the game. And mini game modes that strictly DDR mats, Wii remotes or even both.
And for the lazy gamers who kills the DDR aspects and just uses a standard controller to play DDR you can use the analog stick on Nunchuk and Dpad on the Wii remote or a classic controller or gamecube controller.

I'd only play DDR on Wii if I could use my sweet, schweet Cobalt Flux pads.

Its also one of the few DDR mixes that gets me playing for more than an hour. The songs are really catchy and fun to play.

Oh man would that game own!!! Thats one thing I loved about DDR Mario Mix, the backgrounds were much better than other DDRs. I've been going to the arcade(s) mainly for DDR for years, and while I'll admit that Mario Mix isn't as difficult as the others, I had great fun with the game! The coins and Goomba and such added alot to the game.
I also think your idea of DDR: Elite Beat Agents would be a smash hit!! ... Now I want a DDR Wii more than ever lol ><
