Title: Europeans Can Purchase VC Games With Stars
Post by: Svevan on December 09, 2006, 11:44:41 AM
Stars can be gained by registering Nintendo products online and purchasing a Wii.

Eurogamer reported yesterday that European Wii players will be able to use Stars to redeem Wii Points for Virtual Console use. Stars are points that accumulate on a Nintendo-Europe.com account when a player purchases Nintendo products and registers them online. EuroGamer says that Stars even come with your purchase of a Wii, and can be gained by purchasing Virtual Console games and taking a short survey.

Nintendo encourages users in all regions to register their products online, but so far only Nintendo of Europe has translated this registration into a benefit with monetary value.

I'm glad I've registered all my games here in the USA.  Ever since NOA announced the system, they've had so many great free items!  I mean, I think I got some crappy Pokemon skin for my GameCube once.

They ask us to register our games, but they never ever give us any incentive.  I only have three games registered, and that was just to get that 3 month subscription to Nintendo Power that had that Wii disk in it.

NOA sucks.

The only reason I've registered anything was to get that pink DS stylus.

Which I got as well.  I was hoping Kirby would be on it.

Yes feel the rage.  Feel what was the starting foundation for hating NoA like I do.

As the "Largest Independent Nintendo Website."  Someone should write a coherent editorial about this situation with NoA.  Every time we get a piece of news the situation with NoA keeps getting more and more ridiculous.

It's like there saying, "Hey we've got a little success here.  What is the least we can do."

I mean NoA only cares about Big Mainstream Corporate Press and they keep slapping us around.    Their only saving grace is that there Customer Service is awesome if you have a problem and lately we've gotten to be the Guinea Pig population for new consoles.  Arg...

I got the Zelda disc, pink stylus, and Metroid Prime 2 preview disc.  Then they just seemed to stop giving stuff out.  What was the point of ever registering anything if they're just going to abandon the program?

That is scarce, and not only that but last time I looked it was a major pain trying to find that darn-out-of the way "Promotions" page.

Hooray! We get screwed again. Although, even after accounting for 18% tax included in the price of the Wii, it still costs about $60 or so more over there.

I wonder if Nintendo thinks that free swag belongs to a niche market?

NA- Timely launch
Japan- Lower price and wider selection of VC games
Europe- Free wii points

Glass is one-third full or one-third empty for everyone, depending on how you look at it.

Some good news.

For all the US complainers: We get 2.50$ worth of Wii points for every 75$ game purchase (with games arriving 3 months late or never). Would you really want that?

That's an awfully strange glass you have there, defying all rules of math.

Australia- Nothing
Awesome!

However...
And I think NWR should report this as news. On PAL consoles, if you change your country, you can shop in foriegn Virtual Console stores witht he same Wii Points and swap back with nothing bad happening. Just watch the number of Swedes owning Wii's dramatically increase when they get Opera, only to see them disapeer the next day.

Now while this is getting a bit ambitious, after successfully smuggling Bomberman 93 across the digital border last night. I think I'm going to try and register my quite substansial collection of Euro games and see if I can get some star points. Because that would be awesome.

It's not for all Europeans, I think. Only for those in UK, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, France and Italy. Correct me if I'm wrong. I live in Norway and we can't register Stars (not htat I know of, anyway).

Hardly. How does a three week earlier launch make up for free money or better game selection? I'll give you a hint, it doesn't.

Three Weeks early might have been good if the Wii was "Feature Complete."  In other words if all the channels, Internet, News, Weather, worked out of the box and the VC was steadly supplied and better then a trickle so we be right there with the Japanese launch.

I did not say I liked the $40ish Wii Sports bundle, broken features, and not having good VC games. I was saying their incompetance is different in each region.

The only "free" money you get is five stars a day if you visit the NoE homepage daily. VERY rarely a questionnaire. The biggest source of stars are consoles (500 stars) and games published by Nintendo (250 stars, third party games = 0 stars) and considering how much more expensive they are in Europe compared to the US you're better off converting those 25$ we pay extra on games directly into Wii points. Oh and don't forget that we get the worst selection of games.

Yeah, I'd hate to live in Europe. Doesn't sound like they're "free points" at all. However, I'm the type of guy who has 34 things registered on My Nintendo with a few I just didn't bother adding. So, that would accumulate for me. Still, I'd hate HATE to have the Europe selection of actual video games. Few and far between, always...

Another reason that MyNintendo sucks. Europe gets points for everything they register and can use them for free stuff. The only things we got are the pink DS stylus for registering Kirby: Canvas Curse and the Zelda Collector's Edition disc.

"Free stuff" being merchandise (tshirts, bags, etc) with a Nintendo logo if you register 10 games or so (per piece) and get there before they are sold out. I WISH we got that collector's edition disc.

"They ask us to register our games, but they never ever give us any incentive."

I know.  I haven't registered anything since the Metroid Prime 2 demo disc.  And it's not like I've intentionally not registered to stick to da man or anything like that.  I've just outright forgotten because there is no reason for me to remember to.  I don't think NOA even knows I have a DS.

I think we still have it better off in North America since we actually have games released on a timely schedule.  Is swag worth having games delayed or cancelled outright?  Still much like pretty much everything Nintendo does MyNintendo is a huge waste of potential.  NOA seems to have good ideas in theory and then f*cks them up in execution.  They need to just come up with the general idea and then pass it off to someone who knows what they're doing.

I register everything just so Nintendo knows I love them.

I bought a Pokémon GBA Video for $1.50 just so I could register it in hopes of more Nintendo love.

(Also, I wanted a GBA Video for some time, just to check it out and test it with the GBPlayer/Action Replay and Game Port Advance...)

I do the same thing.  If nothing else, if I ever need to call up Nintendo and complain about something they can look at my file, see I give them way too much money and maybe they'll be a little more willing to help me out.
