To be fair, it's hardly the deliberate error worked into PSPs.

it's pretty easy to add extra strength to the strap with fishing line.

I've noticed on all of my straps that the "fishing line"-like material is being exposed from beneath the fabric at the point where it loops through itself and the wii remote. This not only makes me worry a bit about its durability, but is also kind of scratchy for when playing NES VC games.

You could just hold onto the Wiimote.

That normally works.

I take it you haven't been in a particularly intense round of Wii Sports Tennis with friends/family yet, then

(those things can get mighty slippery when your palms sweat even just a little)

Oh, I've had plenty.  Thanksgiving was nuts this year.

And yet, even my 3 and 4 year old nieces were able to not let go of the remote.

Now I did have to keep them from moving forward up to the TV (they kept doing that), but never once did they let go of the 'mote.

Now if they can handle it - in Boxing no less - that speaks leagues on all sorts of things.

But I's just sayin'.

I applaud you and your 3-4 Y.O nieces on your manual strength. I must be a weak weak man.

OK, Maybe you can get a thick metal Braclet straped on your wrist.....With some reinforced staples drilled into your bone....then weld the wiimote to that bracelet......well have to go with a gas weld on this one, can't do it sloppy.  Then maybe, just maybe.....people will be able to keep a hold of their dam Wiimotes and stop bitching......Nintendo is not lieable for your mishaps dumbtards.

I can just see all the execs at Nintendo now...

"We can never plan for the stupidity of people"

Here's some tips...

1.  Try not to drop your remote.
2.  In the case that you do drop your remote, make sure that you didn't throw the remote so hard that it creates enough force to break the strap.

Seriously, #2 is the key here.  You don't have to pretend your Nolan fricken Ryan when playing Wii baseball.

What exactly is breaking? The strap or the plastic holding the strap to the wiimote?

Dang, guys. I was hoping for some backup here, but fine. If "Dropping the Remote" = "Stupidity" then we need to have some words.

FIRST LET'S GET THIS OUT OF THE WAY. I'm not a dumb or stupid person, but I'm not about to start spouting my GPA or my ACT scores to prove it. I also play piano regularly, so that should confirm to you that my hands are not frail and withered sacks of skin and bones suited only to the most base of activities such as delivering food to my mouth and clicking a mouse.

NOW. The remote has slipped out of my grip once. It happened while I was playing Wii Sports Tennis with 2 buddies. My hands were a little sweaty from the match (and no, I had not been playing with slugs or bathing in butter either), and I swung a backhand and it slipped out. The wrist strap caught it. Thank you Nintendo, for your foresight. And in case you're wondering, I was doing the small movements (because you can get more speed on your shots that way)

(looks at thread title) This thread's about the fact that the wrist straps may be faulty. I commented on that. I've found the wrist strap useful (as no doubt many others have), and I'm concerned that they may not live up to the only function that they are made for. I mean, have you looked at how tiny that little cord that connects to the remote is? This is a valid point, and if you'd rather poke fun at people who have dropped the remote, there's a web site just for that. But beware, because no one is immune to remote-slipping-out-of-your-hand-itis, and if you make fun now, you might have to eat some humble pie later on. And let me tell you, humble pie is nasty, and you do NOT want to eat it.

IN CONCLUSION:
1. Do sweaty-handed people have a right to play Wii without worrying about a remote being flung into the great nether and/or the television? I submit that they do.
2. Are sweaty-handed people inherently of lesser intelligence than non-sweaty-handed people? I submit that they are not.
3. Could there be a defect regarding the manufacture of Wii Remote Wrist Straps which might yield unfortunate results when sweaty-handed people combine with a sexy (but not textured) device to be held in the hand which is lacking a reliable and dependable fail-safe mechanism? I submit that this is indeed a distinct possibility. Further, I submit that if one is not in agreement with the above statements, then one is, unfortunately, quite wrong.

P.S. – Plugabugz, the small part of the strap that connects to the remote is the thing that has snapped for some people.

Why not a handcuff for a strap?  It's not like people ever actually put the remote down.

maybe a third-party super strength cord will be released. Personally i'm just going to add a few support cords of 20lb test fishing line.

While the strap seems like it should be stronger, it is still helping people like decoyman.  I am frankly a little worried when I play Wii sports now.

The internet is blowing this issue way out of proportion though.  I have seen many obviously faked videos and pictures since the first report.  When someone is actually videotaping themselves playing a videogame it immediately becomes suspicious.

(after looking at the wiihaveaproblem website I notice that af fewof the problems also involve alcohol.  I could have told you the Wii plus beer would have caused a lot of problems the second they announced motion controls.)

Has there been a case where someone was smacked by the wiimote?  I can't wait till i hear on the evening news "local boy struck with his friends wiimote, ends up in hospital"
Title: RE: Iwata says Wiimote's strap may be faulty

I don't think people read my post.  What I was getting at is that it takes significant force to break said strap, therefore it is stupid to swing your arm so fast that it does in fact break the remote.

Decoy, if you dropped your remote and the strap worked, then it can be assumed that you weren't stupidly swinging your arm overly hard.

Also, every video I have seen showing someone actually breaking it has him swinging to the point that it is absurd.  On top of that, I think it is likely that many of the broken TV images that are shown were caused by people not using the strap at all, but had too much pride to admit it and are looking to place blame somewhere.

I haven't dropped my remote yet.  My biggest problem is I tend to set the remote down and then try to walk run away really fast (usually to answer my phone or use the facilities) and a wind up taking the remote (and sometimes the nunchuk) with me.  Thus far the wrist strap has caused more problems for me than it's solved.

I almost got smacked in the face with the Nunchuk while watching my friend play wii boxing.  She accidentally let go of the nunchuck and it swung around and came within 6 inches of smashing my face in.  Close call!

I like it when people respond to issues by saying people should not be bothering to respond to this issue, it's overrated.

Oh, Internet. How rich you are in unintentional irony.

People if You worried about the Wiimote getting slippery I can't recommend enough the controller gloves.  I have eaten greasy food with my Wiimote hand and used it for Wiisports and other games with no slippage at all.  I'm no more worried about losing my Wavebird, which I have had slip, then my Wiimote.  I really do like the gloves.

Nintendo secretly replacing the strap?

Here in Toronto I was at the Eaton Centre (a mall downtown), and they had a Wii area set up.  I talked to one of the nintendo girls and noticed she had a cool looking wriststrap.  The actual strap has "Wii" going across the strap about 4-5 times.  She ended up giving me 5 for free.  The problem is the plastic piece used to tighten it can come off easily.  Still not bad incase I need a replacement.  The default one is still going strong, but dirty (ugh).  I also got a replacement ordered from nintendos online store.

Good to know they're doing something about it. That's got to be a cheap fix, too...

I just got an email titled Important Safety Information for Playing Wii from Nintendo reminding me to use the strap, not to let go of the remote, and make sure there are no orange hula hoops around me while playing.

I was very thankful for the reminder as I completely missed the 3+ warnings each time I've booted up Wii Sports for the past 24 days.

I just requested 4 of them today!

Don't you live in another country?  You have to enter your Wii serial number when you request replacement straps.  Will they ship replacement straps if your Wii serial number is from another region?

I do but my Wii is a US model.
I don't think they'd send replacements if your Wii' serial number is from another region.

So, a second strap of mine broke today...  First one happened on Thanksgiving, and the second one happened this evening.

Nintendo was really cool about the first one.  It happened when my cousin was playing Tennis.  She didn't swing it any harder then they show in the trailers, it just slipped, I guess.  Now, maybe the cord was twisted up or something, causing it to be weaker then what people figure them to be, but it wasn't that much force, and it still snapped the cord.  The motor in the controller was pretty beat up though it seems.  It makes this horrid whine now.

The second one was this evening.  My brother just took it to a party at a friend of his' place.  The first game, almost first swing, the controller slipped out of the player's hand and crashed strait into the ground.  I think they were bowling.  Anyway, the controller flew into pieces.  Apparently I'm a controller down.  They said they shoved it all back together, and that it works, but the black cover from the front chipped.  That's a real bummer.
